    Hmm…..well, a spaceship tileset…let’s begin with review:

    EXAMPLE LEVEL 1: Starlit Spaceship

    GAMEPLAY/DESIGN:
The gameplay doesn’t matter too much, because this is an example level. Alltough the level shows all what you can do with the tileset like vines, hurts and destructable scenery. What I miss are enemies. There is only a bolly at the end, but what baddys could u use? Also there are no items or weapons so the level maker has to figure out what events he could use.
PROS: Good use of the standard tileset event thingys (:p)
CONS: no enemies (only endboss), no items
    RATING: 7.0

    TILESET/TILESET USE:
The tileset use was good. I saw no tilebugs and all tiles were used. Bad thing is that there is no foreground.
Eyecandy was basic, but the tileset lacks on eyecandy tiles.
PROS: Good tileset use, no tilebugs
    CONS: Bad eyecandy, nothing amazing
    RATING: 7.0

    WEAPON/ITEM/ENEMY PLACEMENT:
Weapons? none Items? none Enemies? none (only endboss)
    BAAAAAAD!!
    PROS: -
    CONS: no weapons/item/enemies
    RATING: 2.0

    REPLAY/FUN FACTOR/ORIGINALITY:
There’s no replay/fun factor or originality, but this is an example level so that doesn’t matter
PROS: no-one but that doesn’t matter
CONS: no replay/fun factor/originality but that doesn’t matter
    RATING: N/A

    OVERALL (not an average):
Overall it’s an ok example level. It shows how the tiles can be used and it has all things like vines, hurts etc.
Bad thing is that there aren’t any weapons, items or enemies. Only an endboss at the end.
PROS: no tilebugs, things like vines and hurts included
CONS: no weapon/item/enemy placement, uninteresting eyecandy
    FINAL LEVEL RATING: 5.2

    EXAMPLE LEVEL 2: Starlit Spaceship

    GAMEPLAY/DESIGN:
Same as in Level 1, only with an other endboss.
    PROS: look at level 1
CONS: look at level 1, the same as level 1
    RATING: 6.0

    TILESET/TILESET USE:
The tileset use was a bit better as in level 1, although the stars weren’t as good. Overall it’s only a bit changed, because the tileset is a bit other than the first one.
    PROS: good tileset use
CONS: boring eyecandy, no foreground layers used
    RATING: 7.0

    OVERALL (not an average):
Overall it’s the same as level 1, only the eyecandy is a bit changed and the author used an other endboss. I’ll take off one point because it’s the same as level 1

    EXAMPLE LEVEL 3:

    GAMEPLAY/DESIGN:
The gameplay was the same as in level 1 and 2, only there’s an other endboss and the arena at the end is a bit changed. I think it shouldn’t be changed because all those platforms causes Devan to flip out and he jumps from platform to platform until he morphes in a dragon if you shot him enough.
    PROS: look at level 2
    CONS: look at level 2
    RATING: 5.0

    TILESET/TILESET USE:
The eyecandy was the same as in Level 2, only the tileset has an other palette color.
    PROS: look at level 2
    CONS: look at level 2
    RATING: 6.0

    WEAPON/ITEM/ENEMY PLACEMENT:
    nothing
only an endboss at the end
    PROS: look at level 2
    CONS: look at level 2

    TILESET 1: Starlit Spaceship
Now the finally I’ll review the tileset rofl. The tileset itself has good tiles and some basic things tilesets should have like vines, spikes and such things like that. What I missed is back or foreground eyecandy tiles. There are some star for background but I think a textured background would be good. Also there are no foreground thingys. Also there are no eyecandy tiles for layer 4. Overall a good tileset, but a bit small
    PROS: Good tiles
CONS: no back/foreground, small, no layer 4 eyecandy
    FINAL RATING: 6.0

    THE FINAL GRADE: E

THE FINAL RATING: 4.6 rounded up to a 4.7

    DOWNLOAD RECCOMENDATION: No

So that was my review. If you should keep making tilesets? Yes you should I think. At the moment your tileset really lacks of some things that it should have but you can only become better.

PS: I made a level with your tileset. It’s called “Lost In Space”. [This review has been edited by PHT]

Hey, this one’s kind of interesting.

    Good Stuff:
    - layered stars; it’s an interesting change from the usual
    - good use of theme

    Bad Stuff:
    - doesn’t include some tile types (vine, hook, signpost, etc.)
    - tubes look too similar to ground
    - needs variations (I think it would be cool if you combined all 3 versions of the tileset into one)

It’s not bad, but it could be better.

I must say that this tileset needs a bit of work. The ground is dull, there aren’t enough tiles, and you generally need to put more effort into it.

Here are some tips you could follow, if you used them I think this tileset could be pretty cool:
    1. Make the ground more interesting. There are plenty of tilesets out there already that have basic ground and inclines. If this is supposed to be a spaceship level, try to make the ground look like the space ship. Add little doodads like blinking lights to make things generally a bit more interesting.
    2. Make more tiles. With only 2 (dull) types of ground to work with, a level designer can’t really use this. Plus, you are lacking several elements that could really add to the set, like belts, hooks, and eye candy.
    3. EYE CANDY. You really need lots of this in any set. You have lasers, but that’s pretty much it in the eye candy department. Add more, like background ships, systems, flames, flashy lights, aliens, whatever you can imagine that spiffs up the set and builds on the theme.
    4. Put effort into it. Don’t make 3 identical tiny sets with modified palletes, make one big set! Think of what you can put into your set, and don’t stop thinking until you’ve hit the tile limit or you’ve gone completely braindead.

That being said, I’d have to give this set a 3. However, with a bit of work, this set could easily get very high ratings.
