It’s been nearly a year since FireSworD uploaded a new level to J2O – time sure flies fast huh? While last year we were graced with Enter the Chaos (quite a controversial level, but still an instant classic), today we turn 180 from mayhem and turmoil.

Golem Landscapes brings us to a highly abstract battlefield. As FS himself explained, this level takes action on a stone golem, which is a shockingly good idea, especially with the given tileset (a recolor of Carrotus). The theme is realised very well – taking the obvious aside, you can notice that all the walls (including the ones in the background) form a logical, solid mass of rock – like a giant monolith. It’s also a very stoic and tranquil landscape – dim lighting, leaves slowly falling to the ground, and the relaxing background track, with a beat that’s vaguely like a heartbeat – perhaps to imply that the golem is asleep?

The gameplay is far from tranquil, however, as this level sports four different kinds of powerups, lots of dodge space, fast movement, and shortcuts. This layout will remind you a lot of the classic OLC CTF levels – it’s highly interconnected and very spacious. With fast routes, two +1 carrots and one full, and no place to hide, this becomes an ideal level for 2on2 matches. You can get from base to base fairly easily with the aid of warps, but you’re not going to last like that too long, as most key items are out of the simplest route. There’s a ton of situational tactics (that I’ll leave you to discover and abuse…), so every game here ought to be interesting.

This is one of FS’ best releases up to date, so go download, play it a lot, and get inspired!

I had some games here and it was really fun. Its bit too easy level for dueling though, if you kill your opponent, you have basically won already. however with 4 players or more the level is great. also the idea of making a golem with this kind of tileset is very original. gj!

Its an okay level, altough I personally think that the green stuff in the bg clash with the mountains quite heavily.. also, you could have used other colored stuff instead of the plain yellow. I also thought the layout was bit lazy. However, theres not much tilebugs and what there is looks mostly okay and doesnt hurt my eyes atleast. Gameplay is kinda average, I didnt like how i sometimes bump into edges and springs and whatever.
other than that however, the level seems to play ok. Placement is quite bad, there is enough ammo but its placed in really weird shapes which sometimes makes it hard to get.

however this seems to be quite fun level despite some annoynces there is. host this on your free time, i guess..

The cooldude did it again :P

Ahem. I was testing this!

Gameplay is actually quite good, but there are some great campspots, like the warp target over the other base.
Eyecandy goes well with everything. I didn’t see any tilebugs.
You should’ve added a stomp scen in the lake :P
The pickups go extremely balanced, but that +1c is closer to the red base. You maybe should make it closer to blue.
The theming is great with the frozen(?) castle and all in the backround.

Overall, I still for some reason didn’ t like your level. But because you did succeed in other things, I’ll give you an 9 with an Download Recommendation.

A very solid CTF level with a pleasant atmosphere. The layout is solid, although might be a little red biased because their base is slightly easier to defend.

Nonetheless, definate download reccomendation, as this is a very enjoyable level and one of snz’ best CTFs so far. :D

This level is done. I’m not going to make any changes other than extremely small ones.

I knew when I uploaded it that it wasn’t very good, as you can perhaps gather from the description, but I didn’t feel I had any ability to improve it.

Eh, my apologies, if I wasn’t being clear enough. This upload is primarily meant for developers that wish to integrate the given source code into their C++ projects. The main part of this upload is therefore the source code while ctrace.exe is merely an example on how to use the included code. If my main goal was to create a stand-alone automatic file packer then it would have many more features than this.

This is an example of a clever concept with poor execution. It’s quite a cool idea, but this level seems to need a lot more of…everything. I suggest remaking this either with a slightly bigger layout or a more limiting one. Also the ec is decent, but it could probably be better, the bg was nice though.

I wasnt able to complete the Easy Test without jjfly and jjnowall. When you was warped at the walljumping part, you would get stuck.
