Rating Jazz2 for Windows

To start:
This is a funny level with Jazz, Spaz and Lori Jackrabbit in another Windows XP-window and a virus error-message. Funny idea, but bad performed.

Eyecandy: (20 pts)
I can’t take a look into your level layers (because the file is protected), so the Eyecandy-rating is for what you see when you play the level. The foreground is used for the window! Funny! I give you 14 points for the foreground. The background is kinda disappointing, because there is just a sky and that’s all. So that’s just 3. The path is decorated with exactly enough stuff, like trees, torches and crates. A magnificet score of 17 for the path! The average score is 11,33 points, 11 points when I round it down.
Result: 11 pts

Gameplay: (20 pts)
Moderate. The level is quite long, so that’s good. But there are three big problems when I look at the gameplay. Firstly it’s the XP-window, because it disturbs me when I want to see where I like to go. The second problem is – and I think you already guessed it right – the virus error-message. It distracts me. And the third one is the pit. If you fall in there, you have to cheat, or if you don’t know it, you have to reset the game and that’s very frustrating!
Result: 7 pts

Story: (10 pts)
There is no story. So this factor does not count for your final rating.
Result: N/A

Obstacle placement: (20 pts)
In this levels the enemies and lava-pits are good placed. But also in this part of the rating the three problems in the gameplay count, because those are obstacles too! I think you know which obstacles I mean, so I don’t have to say more about it. Overall the obstacle placement is reasonable.
Result: 10 pts

Bonus placement: (10 pts)
Saw short: the bonus placement in this level is great and it is a very funny idea to place blue gems above the lava! It’s some sort of switch: one blue gem in exchange for some hearts of your health.
Result: 9 pts

Conclusion
If you like to be distracted, this is just the level where you’re looking for. If you don’t, just ignore it and choose another one.

Total points: 37
Maximum number of points: 80-10(story)= 70
Calculating: 37÷70×9+1= 5.8
Final Rating: 5.8

Great levels with nice chosen titles, a good eyecandy and a very good boss at the end.

As already stated, there is another utility, “PackPacker”, that can also automatically pack levels, music and their tilesets into a zip archive. So what does this utility offer?

The Main thing this packer offers is user-friendliness. whereas Packpacker requires you to go into command prompt and enter a large string of commands. With Levelpacker, you drag and drop the level onto the app, specify a .zip name, and it does the rest.

(edit: The bugs I have mentioned have been fixed, so I have removed my comments about it =D )

The packer works beautifully, packing both tilesets and music, making your levels look professional. The ability to limit the packer to one level is interesting. I cannot imagine a use for it myself, but it is nice to have.

the ultimate improvement I would like to see to this system would be a GUI that lets you see a list of the files and the ability include/exclude files into the zip before you pack, similar to CD Burner applications.

overall, I must say that this is actually a improvement over PackPacker, and this is a tool all level creators should not be without.

Very very nice. Lot of them much cleaner/enjoyable than the original. Too bad, that there are only a few of these.
— For who can’t understand why is this better than mods: Mobile phones can play mids, and mids are much smaller than the mp3s. Even some apps written to Nintendo DS can play mids.

Sorry PJ, I just don’t think this is quite worth the 8 rating since I don’t see the ‘wow’ factor here. What is nice about the level is the tileset choice and use, while perhaps not perfect has a very nice overall look. The music in combination with the tileset use inspired me. Gameplaywise, despite having 3c + a shield remains solid.

Updated review:

I rated Triton Armory three years ago with a 72. After playing it several times, mainly in JDC ODT Events, I decided to edit my review.

What can I say about the eyecandy? Iron Crown really is a limited tileset, but PurpleJazz made the level look actually quite good.

I like the PU’s in this level – it has Bouncy, RF (each very useful in a level as open as this) and Toaster. It doesn’t have a Seek PU, which is a good choice. I also really the carrot placement. There are three +1 carrots and they really make this level fast paced – which (for me personally, at least) makes duel-sized levels way more fun. Another thing I like is the shield, because it really adds to the gameplay.

This level might not be revolutionary in any way, but because of its size and pace it still is a good level to play Battle duels in. So I definitely give a download recommendation, but I suppose most of you already know this level.
