Sorry, but I can’t bring myself to rate this any higher. The levels are very mediocre and short. As Violet said, way too many short cutscenes. I couldn’t figure out why I was getting hurt in the spaceship chase level and had to use jjinv to pass it. Finally, I can’t make much sense of the storyline, but it doesn’t seem very creative to me.

Sure there are some cool tricks and gimmicks used, but don’t let that cloud your judgement. This episode can be a fun diversion for a short time, but scores nowhere near megahits like Another Story or Tomb Rabbit. Better luck next time!

Blode is evil. It was designed by a foo and it only appeals to foos (and the occasional FEIND).

This tileset, however, does look like it is in blode land. That would give it a somewhat high rating. Unfortunately, the mask is rather icky, lowering the rating by a substantial 2.5 points.

Well this tileset is pretty close to what Blode is really. It captures the feel of and just about everything about it. As far as the masking goes, well, it’s not that good. Eyecandy appears awfull but blame that on the creator of Blode so i won’t rate it on that ;P

Yep,cool tileset.
The ground lacks an edge.

You really have to include the sets needed for the pack. Sure Agama’s are possibly the best custom sets out there but that doesn’t mean everyone has them installed. I had actually but I reinstalled Jazz recently. Having to search for the sets before I can start is HIGHLY annoying.
I downloaded Agama’s sets though and tried the pack anyway. To my suprise I got another missing tileset error in the third lvl…

Anyway, my impression from the first two levels is that they were very well-made but lacked direction and purpose. I think it would have been more interesting with some sort of story.

I agree with Violet.

When I saw it I thought: A test version of Meza?

Not enough eyecandy, sorry, no download recommedation… This tileset isn’t really that bad though, and I hate giving low marks, so I’ll keep it a little higher than a 5.5.

For: Knightmare Castle
Level rating: 7.9

8.5

These days, good CTF lvls don’t come often, and they’re very rare too. But somehow, they never end up on the brink of extinction and there is ALWAYS at least one good CTF lvl every year one way or another. Knightmare Castle is one of them.

Unhit doesn’t seem to have worked hard on this lvl since it’s so small and the two sides are almost identical. However, I can assure you that it doesn’t matter. The lvl hasn’t got much originality and eyecandy, instead it relies on pure gameplay. Knightmare Castle is simply a 100×50 lvl with a full-energy carrot in placed in the middle but it’s the structure and ammo placements that makes it so good.

As I said before, the two sides of the lvl (blue and red) are identical, in other words, mirrored. This means that there will be no complains like ‘I don’t know the lvl!!’ since once you learn your side, you instantly learn the other. I can’t really find any disadvantages about this except that the lvl tends to be the same wherever you go. Anyway, the gameplay is really great. Both Jazz and Spaz can use their special abilities to their full capability plus there are lots of knights to shoot at. :-) Also, the springs are nicely placed with no spring at all taking you where you don’t want to go except from those horizontal springs near the two powerups which bounce you away.

Knightmare Castle’s eyecandy is in no way revolutionary but is definitely as far away from boring as it can get. There are knights (which have heads you can blast away – always a fun thing to do for me), drawbridges which can’t draw, plenty of stones and windows and lots of chains. One mayor thing about the eyecandy is that Knightmare Castle doesn’t have any stained-glass windows. No stained-glass windows? Gasp. Panic. Screams. Ppl running across the streets. Ok, this would’ve happen if a giant armadillo 50 metres tall walked into a city, but since all that happened was that Unhit didn’t put any stained-glass windows in the lvl I guess it’s not such a big deal. ;-)

Weapons placement is good. A couple powerups there, another powerup here and a seeker powerup in the middle. There’s room for much improvements but it’s alright as long as the ammo regenerates cause if they don’t, then ppl will have a very hard time since there are only three powerups and very little 3x ammo.

So… to conclude my review, Knightmare Castle is great CTF lvl by the not-so-great Unhit. :D It’s strength is its gameplay and its weaknesses is that the eyecandy makes me think of giant armadillos but I don’t think it happens to anyone else. :) The lvl is probably best suited to 1 on 1 duels or public games.

I’ll give Knightmare Castle a 8.5. And yes, it means that I think Defense of the Paradise is better.

Cheers,

White Rabbit.[This review has been edited by White Rabbit]

Masking:
The masking’s fine. Incredibly boring, but no problems with it.

Graphics:
Bleh. All the blocks look heavily reduced from a higher number of colors, and have no texture or anything. There are also some signs and letters and stuff, which look better.

Usability:
Looks fairly easy to use.

Extra Stuff:
The blocks, the text signs, the text, along with Poles and Vines. Those make up this tileset. No layer 4 background, no small maskless structures, etc. However, the tileset includes three textured background, one of which even works.

Miscellaneous:
The ramps could use some work. And somehow, the tileset just doesn’t Look 3D..

Competition:
If you like this tileset, get Newspaz’s Meza. It has everything this does and more, not to mention it’s graphically better.

So far, I’m undecided on a rating. I’ll come back to this later.[This review has been edited by Violet CLM]

This tileset is quite good.
It has many varietys of 3d ground that you can use, as well as 3 different choices of backgrounds. Possibilities are limitless with this tileset. With all the ground and everythign you could make quite an intersting level out of this tileset. I would recoment this tileset to all who are good at seeing tilesets in 3d since all the ground is ;P.
Good job keep up the good tilesets : P.

Sorry, but I have no level editing skills whatsoever. But, I am in the process of fixing the background up, and adding more sections. I’ll also get rid of the shields and adjust the weapons placement. Thanks for your input.

(old review removed, replaced with original system)
TILESET/TILESET USE: The level uses Mez01, but not incredibly well. The walls consist of semi-random colorful blocks, but the main unattraction is the background, which is the worst I’ve ever seen using Mez01. It fits together about as well as the walls in Norbii’s “Green Land”.
Pros: More then one wall tile used, colorful.
Cons: The background, and there’s really nothing interesting. No foreground or background eyecandy.
Rating: 1.0

WEAPON/ITEM PLACEMENT: This is, strangely, the first level I’ve reviewed today with either of these. It has a lot of powerups in the upper right area, a lot of ammo in a falling area, and a bunch of coins on the bottom left. There’s a coin warp above the red base leading you to a full energy carrot and a fire shield.
Pros: Coins not insanely overused or bunched up.
Cons: Weapons too bunched up, too sparse elsewhere, coin warp only set to 10 coins.
Rating: 1.5

ORIGINALITY: This is probably one of the only levels advertised as Battle despite obviously being CTF….
Pros: Layout’s also kind of original, as you take completely different paths between the bases depending on which you started from.
Cons: This isn’t necessarily a good thing.. but it’s done kind of well, and shows a little thought.
Rating: 2.2

GAMEPLAY/DESIGN: Hmmmmm. There’s a rectangle area at the top right with powerups and the blue base. From there, you fall down through ammo to another rectanglish area, this time with coins and the red base. From here, you can warp back to the blue base area.
Pros: Interesting.
Cons: Not all that well engineered, as defense is rather messed up. Oh, and there’s a dead end.
Rating: 2.0

REPLAY VALUE: Who knows? You might have some fun with this.
Pros: Possible entertainment value.
Cons: Likely lack of it.
Rating: 2.0

OVERALL (not an average): I can’t say I care too much for this level, and I’m beginning to wish I hadn’t started rewriting my reviews from the bottum up. It does have a few interesting parts, but it feels too much like a bad level, and that’s because that’s what it is.
Pros: Parts of design and placement, kind of original.
Cons: The background, other parts of design and placement.
