So you thought you would never see the day. Well, you thought wrong. The greatest kept secret in JJ2 history (sorta) is finally available to the public. Team Elite, the makers of the patch, have been working on this project for the past few years, and what they have so far is pretty impressive. They now want to beta-test it with 15 players who have never seen the update before. So the first 15 to sign up get to see it.

The patch has an onslaught of updates, so I'll name a few just to give you an idea:

Online Race Mode
Built-in Team Battle
Built-in Instagib
Fixed Team Chat
Additional Layers for JCS
Ability to use up to 3 Tilesets at once
Water colors are changable in 16-bit
Instand Death at the bottom of levels
Bot support
Ability to use .ogg or .mp3 formats
Optional Friendly Fire
Optional Time Limit
Custom enemies
Cut Scenes
Anti-Cheat Protection
New Continue and Game Over features
Additional Warp Background options
Improved Sugar Rush
Forced correct colors of names in team games
More parameters for a variety of events (too many to list)

Higher resolutions and an additional playable character were intended to be added, but there were complications. Screenshots will be posted as soon as possible.

They're mostly showing off multiple tilesets, with a couple examples of 16-bit water color and the sugar rush. And what appears to be a vertically aligned textured layer 8.

Eh, the palette's inconsistent. I suppose logically if we accept all claims as being true, Pyro et all could certainly have reworked JJ2's color handling to not rely quite as much on palettes, but that would again be hard on 8-bit and it seems sort of a pointless change.

Maybe if we accept the claims that they have made a 1.25 patch, and that it does all they claim, we can accept that it is indeed so, and they have altered JJ2 in such a way, that all this is possible. But, until we have solid evidence, such as them giving it to those of us that agreeded to try it, I'm taking this as a hoax.

EDIT: Hey, for all we know, they may have taken 8-bit out completely, assumuing it's real.

I would LOVE being in the beta testing group. I probably don't have to explain why, but in case I do:
The main reason is that I am good with computers. And of course I have experience beta testing. I am currently testing 2 Microsoft programs. MSN 7 and another program which is yet to be announced.

So pick me as a tester please. PLEASE.
And yes, I realize that I am likely to be called an idiot tomorrow when it is announced that this is fake. But I'm willing to take that risk in case it is not fake. ;p

Considering that I have a knack for finding all sorts of bugs in games through various playtesting and whatnot, I'd also like to sign up for this, even though I believe there's a few more than 15 players already signed up as it is.

I am somewhat amused at this. BZPower.com (A lego Bionicle Fansite) commenly have people who claim they see things, only to be shredded apart from every fibre of their self-worth by the skeptics. What I find funny HERE is there are not many attacks! (Aside from cooba and a couple others ;) )

2)You need the source code to do something like this.
3)No extra character? well if its for both 1.23 and TSF, Lori would be in it...
4) With the "improvments" to 16bit, why would you take the menu screen in 8bit?

2)It is possible to ripsource codes from programs
3)Perhaps Jazz Spaz and Lori are there, and the missing extra was Devan or something.

The JCS one: I could do it in paint in under an hour...
The Main Menu: Hex editor...
Ones w/ 2+ tilesets: get the images of sets and make a lvl....
Others: To lazy to think.

Hehe, something sounded a bit fishy about the cutscenes (How would you program those?) and multiple tilesets things (Because of palettes and such). I was undecided whether it was real or not when I read about it, but the secret is out. :P It does suck though to hear it's all fake. It would have been real cool to have all that extra stuff.

Not a good joke really although it was done at April 1st and much work was spent to the screenshots. That's because I'm so addicted to this game that all my dreams went broken now as you revealed it was only a joke. Well, this was probably too sweet to be true even so I doubt in vain this could have been a real patch. ;(

Well, how about thinking of the real patch as April 1st is over? How about contacting Epic for the source code or so? Go on, please... ;)

As for it being part of some people's biggest hopes and dreams.. that should mostly show those people need to broaden their horizon and look beyond hoping for patches that are unlikely to be released anytime soon or at all.

1.24 is actually a different game, called Jazz Jackrabbit 2: The Secret Files (TSF), not a patch. :)

Actually, TSF has everything 1.23 has and more. Just that the community of TSF is so seperated from the community of 1.23.

Ignoring that, TSF is better than 1.23.

Yes, the only advantage is that it's exactly like 1.23 but better in many ways, how about that? If the 1.23 community was centered around 1.24 then we'd be complaining about how 1.23 sucks and is outdated, because frankly it is in comparison. The only thing is the whole bit about how hard it is to obtain 1.24 and how disjointed the 1.23 and 1.24 communities are.
