That looks both rather pretty and VERY confusing...

SPAZ18 Nov 7, 2006 06:50 AM

Here's a screenshot from SJB3. This shot is from World 2-2. I know how to do moving BGs in Layers 6 & 7 now.

I found it looking very lacking. The leveldesign seems to be too simple to.

SPAZ18 Nov 7, 2006 09:09 AM

There is some Buttstomp scenery to the right of those blocks so there is more below.
What can I do to improve it? I'm using the CZ+ tileset.

In the level, there is also a Bonus Area I am gonna put in it. The cost to get in will be 120 Coins. Any ideas what should be in the Bonus Area?

Olsen Nov 7, 2006 09:21 AM

Well, color the background more blue. I'd say R:120 G:110 B:230, but you'll have to try yourself, and see what you like. Also, make the background move if you haven't already. That means, set the Auto X/Y speeds to something like 0.3

Should be good. :)

SPAZ18 Nov 7, 2006 09:30 AM

Thanks! :)
It looks much better now. I have also put "Parallaxing Stars Background" on in Layer 8. I have put 0.3 in Auto X Speed on Layer 8. BG now moves.

EDIT: New Screenshot:

PurpleJazz Nov 7, 2006 10:09 AM

Looks too plain. It needs more eycandy.

n00b Nov 7, 2006 10:11 AM

Thats just the same place with a new background!

cooba Nov 7, 2006 10:29 AM

..eww @the background.

SPAZ18 Nov 7, 2006 12:16 PM

How can I make the BG better? I've done R:110, G:120 & B:230 in layer 8.

Perhaps some more blue/less green and red. Honestly I don't know.

Just one thing, perhaps the background eyecandy should be raised? It's kinda weird looking right now.

SPAZ18 Nov 7, 2006 01:31 PM

Used dark green tiles in Layer 8. Used R:0, G:0 & B:255 to get a cool light blue effect in the background.
I have also raised the eyecandy in Layers 6 & 7. Other BG I used in Layer 8 was ugly.

Instead of uploading loads of screenshots, how about I upload what I have done so far.

Music & Tileset included.

PurpleJazz Nov 7, 2006 02:03 PM

Not much of an improvement.

Though, you have to consider two things;

1. It seems to be a port of the SMB3 2 - 2 level.
and 2. The tileset has very limited amount of eyecandy.

As for the my opinions, I haven't got TSF atm so I cannot check it. Sorry. :|

PurpleJazz Nov 9, 2006 12:22 PM

Here is a new pic of my level. I have changed the background and the tileset I'm using:

Does grass tiles exist in this tileset??
If so, you could put them and it would look a lot better.

This makes me even more sad that I'm using this set. This tileset is too populair. The level looks alright though but can still use some more Eye candy. And welcome to IC.

n00b Nov 9, 2006 02:11 PM

OMG POPLAR SET!!!111! EVRY1 STOP USIN IT IMADTLY!!!

Seriously, whats the deal with all the hate of over-popular sets?
I've yet to see a level downrated because the tileset was cliched.

Grytolle Nov 9, 2006 02:31 PM

The reason a tileset is used a lot is that it's good. Use good tilesets

I think it's a good set, why else would I been using it? It's just that the tileset doesn't have many new things to offer since there are already 10 or more good levels made with it.

More because sometimes it gets rated lower because there are no original things anymore.

Grytolle Nov 10, 2006 12:53 AM

The new things should be game play related - who cares about your eyecandy after 10 minutes anyway?

Here is a list of levels made with Diamondus Beta(excluding upcoming ones)

Garden Brawl
Bay of Diamonds - XLM
Christmax - XLM
Crematoria
Diamondus Warzone Beta
Darker Insomnia
Overheated and Freaky World - XLM
The Unnamed Level
Even Darker Insomnia
Forest of Diamondus
The other side of Diamondus
It's Over - XLM(when P4ul was still in XLM)
Hot Springs
The Forest at Night
Rocky Gardens - XLM
Midnight Battle - XLM
Cutted Problem - XLM
Dusky Siegeness - IC
Diamonds of Diamondus
Holy Gardens(3-level pack)
Diamondus Midnight
The Lost Battle Game - IC
Some level from AB Single Player Pack 1
Chlorophyll World
Forest Burn - XLM
The Highlands - XLM

Not counting the upcoming levels.. well, I have even more Diamondus Beta levels. As you can see, XLM used it quite some times but some levels were one of the first levels with the tileset. But there are also lots of levels that are not made by XLM or IC ;p. Only 9 XLM levels, and none upcoming(I think)

Superjazz Nov 10, 2006 07:53 AM

Midnight Invaders. Should count as an XLM-product also though I after all forgot to mark it anywhere.

Olsen Nov 10, 2006 08:27 AM

He's right indeed. \o/ @ Cooba

Still, it's a good set. I'm not gonna use it more, though, two levels was enough for me.

Sacrush Nov 10, 2006 09:05 AM

Looks like I started a conversation. Anyway, The level I will be making with the Diamondus set will be a race level so it will still be different from the rest, also some new eye candy ideas are used. No screen though, the level is in a too early stage to show one of it now.

DarkSonic Nov 10, 2006 09:47 AM

I forgot to put ßattlepack! and Night Cruise in the list, but that pack and that level were removed from J2O. Probably because there were no reviews(?) or the author wasn't satisfied or something. But P4ul has used Diamondus Beta 7 times, and worked on The Lost Battle Game's eye candy which makes it 8.

And Sacrush: I hope you can surprise us when your level is finished ;P.

Camou Nov 10, 2006 10:35 AM

Cooba, what is the name of that spacey-junkyard tileset you suggested when I was looking for a tileset? I can't find it anymore.

DarkSonic Nov 10, 2006 11:05 AM

Oh, I would also like to tell that I'm going to make a pack(again) and 3 levels of the pack are almost ready to be tested, The third level is an Orbitus Battle level, and I'll host it when I have time. But the problem is that I don't know a nice name for the level. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Need to find music for the levels as well. The first level's music is not that good in my opinion, and I haven't looked for the music for the other 2 levels.

Orbitus Orbation? Mastorbituson

I don't know the theme of the level, so. :P

Well, that was the problem for me too. But the level has a lot of blue and yellow, so I called it 'Hypergenerated Shocks' thanks to Sacrush. The first name was 'No Particular Theme'

No, but that doesn't mean levels don't need any new gameplay things.

I don't spend time looking at Eyecandy when I'm playing too. It does have to be playable though (no bright yellow flashing bgs or something).
