It would be nice if a few reknowned level designers would make some levels for the bash, just for a little mystery and anticipation.

lawlz d00d.

i just don't want some people to come here and start making up bull(-) about "oldies" like every year, we really but really don't give a (-) about balding 35 year olds who used to play this game thousand of years ago and sucked at it. like we don't go to #jj2 and talk about the results of our latest 2v2 invitational tournament, you don't come here and force us to turn our annual celebration to some nostalgic meeting. keep your own nostalgia to yourselves, people. seriously.

Well, on one hand I agree with you. But on the other, Stijn did mention last year that he would be up for doing it this year. And because he's the one who came up with the plan to get going. I think we should just let him go along.

Maybe it would be better if someone actually arranged this next year.

R3ptile Mar 13, 2008 09:40 AM

i think we should not. i am sick of people who pop up out of nowhere when the AB comes close and make decisions for everyone else.

and haha yeah, that's what you said last year. it's time for this to change for once and ever!

Grytolle Mar 13, 2008 09:46 AM

I can't stay away anymore. Let's play Cracco Baloons the entire bash.

sonicnathan 1 Mar 13, 2008 09:49 AM

Alright! This time I'm going to join!

R3ptile Mar 13, 2008 09:49 AM

also this year it's time to move on from Nimrod and let someone else host the event.

Vegito Mar 13, 2008 09:53 AM

Well, I'm more for playing levels people actually like in general than about playing levels which are just .. levels.
Bash went from 75% fun gaming and 25% eyecandy/"good levels," to 90% eyecandy/good levels/level makers discussions about what they think the best levels are and 10% fun gaming. I seriously think you should rather think of the people who actually PLAY in the bash instead of the level makers all caring about their own levels to make it into the damn bash.
Thats not what bash was meant for in the first place.

Anyways, thats just my opinion about it.

Also I don't mean you have to play BBlair and such. Maybe levels which everyone used to play though, I think R3ptile's list had some good examples in it. Coffee for example is a great level for such an event. Fun to play in with more people.

Ragnarok! Mar 13, 2008 10:08 AM

In which case, you said you hated Coffee to me, though you might just be stating some newly found passion or due to someone else's influence, and also I agree about the Bash being a Celebration and not a JCS competition. Some are just blowing this out of proportion.

Vegito Mar 13, 2008 10:13 AM

Well, I don't like the level myself however I noticed people enjoyed it a lot in the JDC when we played there. It is just a good level to play in with more people, also its gameplay is good.

Ragnarok! Mar 13, 2008 10:56 AM

Heh, that explains it I guess.

FQuist Mar 13, 2008 10:57 AM

R3ptile, it's fine if you make suggestions or even voice opinions, but if you don't stop flaming then you will soon be gone from this topic. I am not keeping you from voicing any of the opinions you have, but the tone needs to change. If you have problems with that decision take them to PM. I will not tolerate such discussion here.

Now for non-admin mode:

It's obvious every bash that old people who generally don't play (that often) show up. That's the whole fun in bash: for once there are more than just 6 people online, and all the inactive people play again for a few days. If it's just the same people that you play in 4vs4s you could just as well organize those. If you just like the fact a level pack is assembled - that's something that can be done every day of the year.

Bash packs have also always been a mixture of recent levels and some old levels. This is for a reason. You don't just celebrate the past year, but you celebrate all years. It's been obvious that quality of levelmaking has increased over the years, and that lots of people don't like having too much old levels in bash, both for quality reasons and that you get tired of old levels. In some recent bashes, once 24 Hour Coffee started being played, the server emptied up. It's good to find a balance between new levels and old (really good or underplayed) levels. I'd propose something like 75% new 25% old or 80%-20%.

It's just simple fact the target audience is all jazzers, and you should make sure yo try and cater to all of them. Just ignoring them or telling them to go away and die doesn't make the event better.

As for hosting, start yelling about not wanting one of the usual solutions if you can actually provide one yourself. Propose a way that a hosting arrangement can be made that involves reliability. A bash can't depend on one host/admin, it needs multiple for when the server dies. This involves VNC or sharing of duties. If you can't set up a reliable arrangement that involves this, there's no reason to propose hosting.

PS: I don't think 24 Hour Coffee is a bad level. It's actually fun. It's just that it's been in so much bashes everybody knows it and has played it too much

sorry frank, but as much as i respect you as a person i just hate your post and think it doesn't make any sense.

Anubis Mar 13, 2008 11:10 AM

We want r3p!

Ragnarok! Mar 13, 2008 11:16 AM

Someone's blowing thing's out of proportion.

R3ptile Mar 13, 2008 11:21 AM

also, don't get me wrong, i don't care if old people join the event (i myself am not really new anymore), it's just that every year there are these people who come to this thread and piss everyone off.

i don't have much time now but i'll come up with a more organized post later.

Vegito Mar 13, 2008 11:25 AM

Oh, Frank, I was talking about: http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/dow...p?levelID=4689

And I was talking about about that there should be a mix between old and new levels. Not 80% new so only the level makers now get their fun and it becomes JCS politics about who made the best levels last year. :|
By that I mean "best", as what most JCSers find "best" isn't what most players actually find "best" :]

Raven aka StL Mar 13, 2008 11:26 AM

Just make sure to, no matter what, include something for everyone in the bash.
Perhaps extend the bash because it's the 10th, or sth?

R3ptile Mar 13, 2008 11:31 AM

so anyways i'm gonna compile an Anniversary Bash 10 pack and get somebody to host it for a while.

Unhit Mar 13, 2008 11:39 AM

Can anyone show me screenshots of 24 hour coffee? 8(

Ragnarok! Mar 13, 2008 11:40 AM

Woah, he predicted it right.

R3ptile Mar 13, 2008 11:43 AM

rag, if you don't like it you can go ahead and complain, but i'm not sure whether i'd listen...

R3ptile Mar 13, 2008 12:00 PM

(my posts were not personal attacks or anything, but anyways) I'm with Veg here, it's all about politics between JCS'ers nowadays.

FQuist Mar 13, 2008 12:01 PM

My warning still stands. Please start heeding it.

You're the only who seems to be pissed off, r3p.

Ragnarok! Mar 13, 2008 12:14 PM

I agree. No PA this time.

snzspeed Mar 13, 2008 12:16 PM

This is one of the biggest things in jj2's history and yet everyone keeps flaming each other :/

also if multiple people volunteer for compiling, cant they just do it together instead of arguing?

FireSworD Mar 13, 2008 12:20 PM

How about...we see stijn's/pj's list and we decide if we like it?

FQuist Mar 13, 2008 12:22 PM

First constructive suggestion so far.

R3ptile Mar 13, 2008 12:39 PM

ok you know what, i give up.
let Stijn organize the pack and Nimrod host..
just don't come to me and whine afterwards like always

FQuist Mar 13, 2008 12:44 PM

Why isn't there a middle way? I'm sure pack / levellist suggestions are welcomed by everyone, and that they would be considered in the assembly of the pack, or if they are superior even be taken over entirely. There is middle ground between "I don't want to help at all" and "I want to do everything, and do it my way".

Same with hosting. If there are constructive suggestions about who hosts I'm sure they're taken seriously.

FireSworD Mar 13, 2008 12:44 PM

i got an evil suggestion

let's have r3p and stijn/pj make a list and the community will chose from them

R3ptile Mar 13, 2008 12:48 PM

no thanks.

Ragnarok! Mar 13, 2008 12:48 PM

Ok I'm sorry FQ, I'll stop.

Stijn Mar 13, 2008 01:00 PM

Geez r3p, calm down a little. I had a notice that I was still looking for someone to help me with compiling in my opening post from the start; if you'd have responded to that I would have gladly accepted your help.

Anyway, obviously we want to involve the community. PJ and I will probably post our list somewhere this weekend; any feedback given will certainly be used to make it as much to everyone's liking as possible.

yeah right, no matter how much i want it i just keep getting rejected by the j2o staff every year. i don't even have an access to the AB forum.

..and honestly, i'd make an excellent pack alone. i wouldn't really need help, i've done these stuff thousand of times. actually it'd only take me a few minutes to finish compiling it. yeah, you can say i'm the king of level packs.

I guess that's where our opinions differ then. In my opinion community involvement in things done for the community, especially for such a "special" anniversary, is very important.

FireSworD Mar 13, 2008 01:13 PM

Enough!

Let's see the lists!
