Quote:

-Fixed players from appearing to go outside the level (both client and server need to use patch)
-Fixed "Divide By Zero" access violations from bridges
-Fixed "Divide By Zero" access violations from stomping with shields
-Fixed glitch where downloaders can freeze server
-Fixed TSF glitch where Gametype and Level Name automatically get reset when setting up a server
-Fixed glitch where user gets sent to 'Start Multiplayer game' screen after pressing 'Done' on 'Game Server Setup'
screen. This glitch occurs after pressing escape on 'Players on this computer' screen.
-On 'Game Server Setup' screen, pressing 'Done' now sets menu to 'Select a Level' when level does not exist
-Fixed black "dot" glitch sometimes created from level cycles
-Fixed how JJ2 searches for the last period in a level filename then cuts off the rest (with forced search of ".j2l")
-Fixed glitch related to level filename lengths which caused clients to suddenly disconnect
-Fixed online RF missle glitches
-Recoil from RF missles no longer causes fake health for clients
-Recoil from RF missles that were not powered-up now only does 1 heart damage
-Fixed glitch where clients can join private server without a password
-Fixed glitch where events on the far-left side of levels stop respawning for clients (both the server and clients
must be running JJ2+ to truly work). Such an event is the infamous copter in battle1.
-Fixed glitch in 1.23 where powered-up ice projectiles travel in opposite directions when shot while facing left
(a local fix, similar to the TSF fix).
-Reduced probability of clients getting fake health from carrots (only the server must be running JJ2+)
-Reduced probability of clients causing damage to others by stomping/kicking/uppercutting lag clones
-Server no longer hears Sugar Rush music when a client gets a Sugar Rush
-Unauthorized downloads are prevented
-Players running this program no longer pick up carrot after dying on top of carrot
-Flag Passing now requires the receiver to hold the up arrow when shot by RF missiles by the flag holder
-Clients running this program no longer see negative team scores when the a team's score is between 128 and 255
-Chat field no longer disappears on level cycle
-SHIFT+F2 minimizes JJ2 to tray (blame Gry). Note: cannot be used in fullscreen mode
-Player names erased on join (makes it easier to tell who the connecting player is)
-Hearts now always displayed right to left. This makes it easier to see more than 5 hearts on the display.
-Multiversion support so players running other versions of JJ2 can join the server
-Sprites will display correctly for Jazz and Spaz if clients do not edit their JJ2 version before joining
-TNT modifications
-Ability to extend blast radius
-Ability to set how much damage TNT does
-Overtime and Pregame modes
-Pit Punishment from self-destruct with 0 points (for one's team if Team Battle)
-Those who are punished will respawn with 1 heart
-"punishSDs" command punishes all self-destructs by pits
-Spectator mode
-In game modes decided by number of roasts, if a player falls in a pit with no roasts/team roasts, that player
respawns with 1 heart (evil idea by EvilMike)
-Server Game Info (F9) features
-Plus sign shown next to name for players running Plus (blue for 1.23, green for TSF)
-A red circle appears behind the Plus sign if a player is running an old/incompatible version of JJ2+
-Exclamation point shown next to player names if they are using a different version of JJ2 than the server
-Other Game Info (F9) features (for both server and clients in Plus servers)
-For JJ2+ clients in JJ2+ servers, gray plus sign shown next to name for players running Plus
-"C" shown to the right of name to indicate connecting client
-"D" shown to the right of name to indicate downloading client
-"A" indicates client has admin access
-"S" indicates player is spectating
-Point count shown for CTF mode
-Death count shown for Battle and CTF modes
-New custom modes
-For Battle Mode
-Pestilence (roasted rabbits get morphed into zombies, live long and roast for points)
-Last Rabbit Standing (players have lives)
-Extended Last Rabbit Standing (players have lives, but win by points)
-Points for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place get multiplied by 1.5, 1.25, and 1.125 respectively
-For CTF Mode
-Death CTF (each roasts get one point, flag scores roast entire enemy team)
-Jailbreak (those roasted go to jail and must be freed with ice, score by jailing entire enemy team)
-For those who want to make JB levels:
-Trigger ID 30 is for release prisoners and Trigger ID 29 is for overtime
-The overtime trigger is mainly meant to prevent freeing players with ice on either team
-Flag Run (one flag for both teams, score by taking it into the enemy's base)
-Special trigger zones that sets triggers for all players.
-Server trigger (trigger is set on for server, off for clients)
-Place 1 tile left of the bottom-right corner
-Team trigger (trigger is set on for red team, off for blue team)
-Place 2 tiles left of the bottom-right corner
-Special "Console" chat for server and clients running Plus.
-Reset command now always resets entire game for any game mode and custom mode
-Highly improved Idle Player Detection
-Shields get removed on pit deaths (Note: afterwards player temporarily cannot use blaster)
-Health From Kills now no longer removes carrots from the level (use /nocarrots command to remove carrots)
Note: If Health From Kills is enabled and carrots are not disabled, HFK Max Health cannot be greater
than the max game mode health, which is 5 for Battle and 3 for CTF.
-Server now always hides the rabbits of connecting clients
-Some music fix I probably won't keep exactly as it is (right now, music never restarts or lowers in volume on death)
-Possibly inadvertantly fixed clones created from level cycles
-Other miscellaneous bug fixes not worth mentioning (or I forgot what they were)
-See commands below for additional features
After that section it goes into much more specific detail by listing individual commands. But if that's still too many words, here's a general description: JJ2+ fixes a lot of bugs and adds a lot of things, both clientside and serverside.

The readme is a bit disorganized but it gives a concise description of what the program does, and gives a brief description of how it works. The bit I quoted should probably be in the original post of this thread though. The part of the readme that explains how it works is kind of fragmented (note 1, note 2, note 3, etc) but its pretty simple. It just loads a special .dll file that contains all the fixes. You have two options: either create a special jazz2.exe so the dll loads automatically, or load it manually.

Edit: And sorry if my response was a bit rude, since it basically amounted to "rtfm". I still stand by that reasoning however, as it is somewhat annoying to ask what a program does when the documentation is readily available. Saying "I read the manual but don't understand this or that" is perfectly acceptable of course. The important thing is to at least give it a shot, since otherwise the best you can usually expect is no response at all to your questions... other than something very vague like my original comment, or "read the manual", of course. Explaining things that have already been explained in the documentation isn't fun, especially when it seems like the person asking the question doesn't even care enough to bother checking it first. It kind of wears on you if you deal with this sort of thing a lot.

Violet CLM Apr 6, 2008 11:08 PM

My impression of Mono's posts was more that if someone comes across the thread, they're not going to know what is being presented to them without after downloading it, which seems the wrong time to tell you what you'll be downloading. Information has gradually appeared in the thread itself, but only now anything detailed, and you must admit that the first post was absolutely devoid of reasons given to download the file.
That said, this looks like an amazing program and it does seem true that this is what 1.25 is supposed to be for. All the colorful commands and announcements get really annoying after a while, but I'll live.

Stijn Apr 6, 2008 11:23 PM

I'm still seriously disappointed by the lack of Single Player/general purpose improvements.

But it's nice for multiplayer games, I guess.

Unhit Apr 7, 2008 02:17 AM

Sounds great. Just one question: if the plusifier works, i don't need plus.exe, do i?

Grytolle Apr 7, 2008 04:32 AM

Well, I guess it's not really stable, but I just hosted a game, closed the server after a while, wanted to save the chatlog, but when I was saving the whole thing crashed. Is it normal, cuz I don't really want to use a program that wont let me save my (precious precious) chatlogs.

This should be fixed in the next update, assuming I know what the problem is. In the meanwhile, you should be able to save chatlogs in the same directory that JJ2's exe is in. If you still crash, mention that here.

Can anyone post a screenshot of this with a brief description? Would be very neat...

I think there isn't much of a celebration since people have been messing with JJ2 patches for years now, so that diminishes the excitement. And although bug fixes are awesome, people probably aren't going to make sweeping changes like adding in the capability for mods and stuff. As such, people tend to download and use this stuff, but not get excited since it'd be like being joyous when Warcraft III updates to 1.18c or something.

that'd be a crazy update though because WC3 is on 1.21b

@ Topic: I'm actually happy about this program. Especially because you don't need to run any additional programs any more :)

Single player improvements would be nice, but there's really not much demand for it. Consider that there aren't very many people who actually release single player stuff (I'm talking about things that actually get finished, not projects that are started and left incomplete), and most of the people who are working on things will want their work to be accessible to as many people as possible. For me that means vanilla jj2, 1.23 or 1.24. No special hacks required to play it.

I'm sure a lot of other people who make levels think the same way. A good single player project takes at least a few months to make from start to finish unless you're some kind of machine, and you don't want to put in that kind of time investment when only a couple hundred people will even be able to play it.

Because of this I don't think it's really worth blur's time to put in a bunch of single player specific features in JJ2+ which will only be used a tiny amount, even though I have to admit I'd like to see just what could be done. Better to focus on multiplayer, where virtually everyone can benefit from it immediately.

In my opinion, if there's ever going to be a jj2 hack or patch that expands the single player game, it's going to have to actually come from someone working on a single player project.

blurredd Apr 7, 2008 04:52 PM

I updated the topic to make it slightly more helpful. If anyone wants to post any screenshots showing JJ2+ in action, please do so. The best ones will be added to the opening post.

Jimbob Apr 7, 2008 05:34 PM

Also, just to make sure this doesn't go unnoticed:

Strato Apr 7, 2008 07:25 PM

I know Unhit. The problem is 1.21b was a huge update, since you don't need a cd to play anymore. That's something worth getting excited about.

I also can't spectate somehow. It says: >> Error: Spectating is not enabled
when I type /spectate on

Eigus Apr 8, 2008 12:30 AM

If you are on your own server, you must put /spectating on first, and if you are on another jj2 server, then the server didn't enable spectating.

I know, I know, but even things like JJ2 crashing when you have > $x episode files in your JJ2 dir were left unfixed. A full-fledged scripting language or something is probably too ambitious, especially for a team that practically consists of one man, but I'd like to see relatively easy-to-fix (I think) bugs like that one fixed too.

Grytolle Apr 8, 2008 02:18 AM

If it's of any joy, that problem has been discussed a few times... It's just about prioritizing. I sort of feel like seeing if there's anything I can do about that particular problem right now, but on the other hand, I feel lazy :(

Yeah, actually I came up with some ideas to Blur sometime ago as after seeing all the cool stuff being done in MP I started feeling somewhat limited with my SP levels. I guess there's always a way around, but then again why not make things easier?

Vegito Apr 8, 2008 05:04 AM

Seeing /spectating off in every version is such a great loss as its such a great function :(

Nonomu198 Apr 8, 2008 12:29 PM

Ah... blinking (you know when you are hurt) and that carrot corona thing (when you get a carrot) are not working; I still get hurt. Also I allways thought assassination was a costum mode.. isn't it? There is no command to it. Or is it hosted as some other costum mode? death CTF?

Birdie Apr 8, 2008 01:17 PM

Assassination has always been just plain CTF in a fancy level.

Nonomu198 Apr 8, 2008 01:42 PM

Well, it dosent work when I host it in regular ctf D:

Jimbob Apr 8, 2008 02:21 PM

As a reply to Blur's message:

@master sven: If you're on your own server, you need to type '/spectating on' to enable spectating. Once you did, then type '/spectate on' to spectate.
If you're on another server, then the host needs to enable spectating. Once they did, typing '/spectate on' will allow you to spectate.

blurredd Apr 8, 2008 08:40 PM

Jimbob, those screenshots are good, though if you want to hide IP's, it would look better if you either blur them or don't show them at all. Also, the hearts look misleading--have you considered restoring your Anims file?

You're right about that problem. There are actually a whole bunch of menu problems in jj2. Like for example, how you are dumped to the main menu after exiting a multiplayer game instead of being dumped to the serverlist, and how if you have too many episode files jj2 crashes (as you mentioned), and how home cooked levels can only display 255 levels.

I remember hearing that those problems are actually somewhat harder to fix than it seems, since the menu is handled separately from the game itself, so it would require a bunch more research to be done. Some people know way more about this than I do though; everything I am saying is second hand.

In the mean time, this program http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/dow...p?levelID=3316 fixes the ingame level list well enough. It's a launcher for jj2 levels. Lets you select difficulty level and character. It's basically a complete replacement for home cooked levels. It also has support for episode files (no images though). In fact even if JJ2+ eventually fixes the menus, captain cook will probably still be easier to use.

I find it annoying in CTF servers. CTF games are problematic when people aren't playing, since it screws up the team balance. That's what idlekick is for, but idlekick won't kick spectators. The option is fine for battle games, but imo it should always be left off in ctf mode. Also it can potentially screw up custom gametype levels with a lot of triggers. Perhaps it should still be enabled by default though, I can't tell which is better. It's easy to edit the ini in any case.

Speaking of ini options, why is multiversion off by default? It lets people from 1.23 and 1.24 join your server, with no sprite glitches (unless lori joins a 1.23 server, but who seriously uses lori). There is virtually no drawback to turning it on other than a potential flood of polish people. I really think this option should be on by default.

Vegito Apr 9, 2008 04:31 AM

It doesn't have to be allowed in events and such, also it is a choice for the host to use it. But I personally love to look at duels/2v2s like that very much ;)

And it might be off because theres 500 TSF players usually. Your server would be full of Polish noobs you can't understand in no time. ;)
Oh, they will all ask for/say things like "TEST??????????" "PLEASE?????" "ME JOIN KLANU DM????" "DM JESTES KLAN??" "JAK TAMM????" "CZESC"

Also I do really think this patch should be added to the J2O downloads link, and maybe make this topic Sticky.
It is a really great patch, and thus I think every newb should be able to find it easily ;)

Grytolle Apr 9, 2008 05:47 AM

While you're at it, remove NeoAC and other outdated things

blurredd Apr 9, 2008 09:51 AM

I made a minor update to JJ2+ and added screenshots to the opening post.

EvilMike Apr 9, 2008 10:04 AM

Do I have to run plusifier each time there is an update?

Actually I just looked at the timestamp and it's obvious that it wasn't changed. This should probably be pointed out in the readme.

I have a small request, can you make it so the changelog explicitly points out when there is a change to either of the .ini files? Otherwise it's hard to tell if anything is different, which means you have to painstakingly check each update or just overwrite your ini.

Grytolle Apr 9, 2008 12:51 PM

The plusifier only patches your exe so that it loads a certain dll. You only need to run it again in case the dll-name would change (not likely).

I would guess that blur codes jj2 so that missing posts in ini-files will be added automatically (meaning you never need to overwrite).
