Especially if it was done threw PMs (which can be done with JJM). But either way, to have a "serious" conversation with a "bot" in the cafe would be really neat.

Haha, that sounds awesome. NPC's in general are a nice addition to any level.

[GpW]Urbs Oct 23, 2010 12:24 PM

This level is incredible.
And this coming from a person who absolutely hates everything that has anything to do with rooms/cities/hotels/hostels etc
The beginning itself is pretty mindblowing.

Speeza Oct 23, 2010 01:09 PM

I'm no guru in JCS , I'm not sure if this is possible but I think it is. Gold any chance you could create a train system as well , like the plane ?
Would be pretty nifty if you ask me.

[GpW]Urbs Oct 23, 2010 01:13 PM

and while you're at it, how bout making a subway system as well. Can't have a proper city without a proper subway system, now can you?
It just isn't done:)

Kat Oct 27, 2010 03:57 AM

I like Carrotopolis. I think it will be beautiful.

[GpW]Urbs Oct 27, 2010 07:39 AM

It already is pretty nifty and that's a pretty big understatement. I loved the beginning, it's epic.. and the music, not to even mention the whole 3d experience:)

andreea[NC] Nov 4, 2010 09:30 AM

cool city

GoldRabbit Dec 11, 2010 07:46 AM

Deeply sorry for reviving this thread, however I think that I am able to without warnings because it's an ongoing project and opening a new one would be redundant.

Update
The hardest month out of this year has passed, so guess what: I resumed working on the level! You will finally see updates more often because I'm free, but I have to make one statement.

I will not set any release date, as being pressed by time would decrease the quality of the level. Most probably, it will be during Q1 2011. I'm very for the delay, because many have expected it for a while, but real life stands above all. I hope you like it just as you used to some time ago, and stay tuned for updates!

This is exactly what happened to my pack :(

[GpW]Urbs Dec 12, 2010 03:04 AM

GR is like Blizzard.
"When's is it due to be released?"

"When it's done, Sir, for time is not my master!"

Obi1mcd Dec 12, 2010 11:14 PM

Don't get stressed about a deadline. This thing looks like it's worth waiting for.

GoldRabbit Jul 30, 2011 09:53 AM

Just wanted to say that I've been working on the level for the past months since I've last posted an update and I'll have a batch of screenshots soon. This project is not dead! What I need you to do is post a few ideas for buildings since I've reached a so-called artist's block. Post away! (also I've gotten permission to revive this thread).

Sean Jul 30, 2011 09:38 PM

That multiple CTF levels in one still counts as a serious suggestion. I was planning that for my hotel level.

Update
I promised you an update, so here is a small work-in-progress screenshot of the supermarket which will host the shopper's challenge (found to the right of the building but, naturally, you can't see it.) Any suggestions related to eyecandy are welcome!

Sean Jul 31, 2011 10:45 PM

Small question: how in the hell do you fit something like that into only 30 trigger zones? (Trigger 0 doesn't count because it uses a crate)

GoldRabbit Aug 6, 2011 12:28 PM

I'll have my own method for triggers that is guaranteed to work great so no worries there :D.

I'll edit this post very soon with an update so look forward to it!

Edit:
Update

Just a photo of the Carrotopolis City Hall, which extends a lot upwards and which will house a certain mini-game involving actual thinking and rational decision-making. As always, pictures are work-in-progress.

GoldRabbit Aug 12, 2011 02:01 PM

Further Update

Since no one posted, I'll have to update this last post with an update. So, without further ado, here is the rebuilt Serious Café! It will also have a NPC with which you can have a conversation (idea courtesy of Dermo earlier in this thread).

Moreover, there will be NPC's all over Carrotopolis which say random things, some of which can even be interesting! It will be exactly like an RPG, and there will be way more than 15 (don't worry, you won't need any program).

I hope that I will get some replies to see whether people are still interested in this (I'm gonna finish this either way). See ya!

GoldRabbit Aug 18, 2011 03:28 AM

I know this is a triple post, but if no one wants to say anything I still want to update so people know this isn't dead :/. Alright, I'm gonna add a poll to the first post, so be sure to answer so you get the chance to see one (or even two, depending on how many people answer) building(s) of your choice!

The poll will close in one week, so answer until then! (though I doubt many people will vote but still).

See you then!

Edit
Turns out I'm not able to add a poll to this thread, so you may just post. So, without further ado;

Which one of the following do you want a screenshot posted of?
A. The Hotel
B. The Casino
C. The TV station

After one week I'll count the posts.

Jgke Aug 18, 2011 04:33 AM

Casino sounds interesting.

Obi1mcd Aug 18, 2011 05:11 AM

Casino.

Sean Aug 18, 2011 05:15 PM

Casino indeed.

Crazy Rabbit Aug 19, 2011 10:22 PM

TV station sounds interesting...

Zerg Aug 20, 2011 06:03 AM

1)Casino :)

GoldRabbit Aug 21, 2011 12:25 PM

Update!
Since I believe those who wanted to vote already voted, I'll release a panorama of the casino for your enjoyment!

I'm aware the photo might stretch the page, but I hope that won't be a bother! As always, what you see may change in the final release, but that's unlikely for this building. Suggestions are appreciated!

P.S. Tomorrow (or in the following days) I'll completely rewrite the first post as well as post a picture which compares the photos which were uploaded last year with new photos which showcase the current state of the level. Stay tuned!

Zerg Aug 21, 2011 01:14 PM

gj! I never were in casino btw, but I think there wouldn't bee that much lamps.
You could use trigger system and animated tiles to make play machines like in that craccoboy's "carnevalish" tileset and exemple level.

sonicnathan 1 Aug 23, 2011 10:52 AM

Very nice. I've never been one for hotel or anything like that, but it seems like you know how to use the tileset in hand. Even if I don't play it and just explore, I"m looking forward to the release.

GoldRabbit Aug 25, 2011 07:28 AM

And beyond we go

The main street of Carrotopolis is finished! What does that mean? Well, there aren't really gonna be suburbs, but the city doesn't represent the whole world! Look forward to plenty of areas to explore.

Gotta love references to other levels, tilesets and people. There will be a lot of 'em!

As always, the screenshot doesn't reflect the final product. Enjoy and see you soon!

Lithium Aug 25, 2011 02:52 PM

Can we still post billboard requests? I have a few :)

You're doing a great job there, keep working!

Sean Aug 25, 2011 04:12 PM

How about occasional birds flying by in the back/foreground?

Crazy Rabbit Aug 25, 2011 05:04 PM

How about "music" with city ambient sounds like dog barking, car sound and etc...

Of course you can! Though I don't know how much billboard space I have left, post all your ideas and I'll see what I can do.

Well, while birds flying by in the background is impossible (All bg layers are used up), you might see birds flying in the foreground at night, in the morning, or when raining (that's when there aren't cars on the street and I have free foreground layers). Thanks for the idea!

I have something similar to this planned already. I'm going to include in the upload to J2O some music tracks which are going to be used for individual buildings. That way, when people join the dedicated 24/7 server, when they enter a building, an invisible /changemusic command is sent which changes the sound track.

Of course, that's going to be possible if you want to host yourself. However, if you choose to do so, you need to have a console program running in the background (that only you, the host, need to run, not the clients). That console also adds things such as global trigger zones (which are mandatory) and other miscellaneous features, so it's necessary for the host to run it when playing Carrotopolis. Don't worry, it has no buttons, so you can't break anything.

Also, if people don't download the music from j2o and the player attempts to changemusic, then the music simply doesn't change (no crashes and the likes). Of course, that's pretty limiting to the ambience and overall experience, so it's certainly preferred you download the level (&music) from J2O so you don't miss out on anything and don't waste time downloading on jj2.

I'll completely redo the first post later today, so look forward to it!

The view you have to take in when you take the other exit (leading to a hill) from the city, which represents a panorama of a little village which you may be able to visit.

The promised first post update will come later today (sorry for the delay). Until then, enjoy!

Crazy Rabbit Aug 27, 2011 04:04 AM

Eh, the moon looks not good with blue color.
Maybe the sky should be black?

GoldRabbit Aug 27, 2011 04:42 AM

It's not the final design. This is just something I put together now to show the 'concept', if you will.

Obi1mcd Aug 27, 2011 04:56 AM

I'm also pretty curious about how you're managing background layers. Is the village in the background going to move at a seperate speed?

Sean Aug 27, 2011 04:58 AM

More houses in the background. 'Nuff said.

GoldRabbit Aug 28, 2011 02:08 PM

First post updated. Enjoy!
