whats the point?

people would spam. theres no other reason for custom ranks besides "fame" or something like that. this board is mostly for jj2 purposes not for FAME OKAY?!?!

JJ BBoy KS Mar 28, 2002 11:22 AM

How would you use it to spam?

I say we use 'em

||Slim Mar 28, 2002 01:12 PM

why do we need it anyway?

Shadow XZ Mar 28, 2002 06:48 PM

Spam? Spam? Its in a name for goodness sake! and why we want it? Cuz JCF member is so boring, and it would add variety to this board!

Another Jazz 2 fan Mar 28, 2002 07:44 PM

Hmmm... no official decision from the admins yet... wonder if they're discussing this in their "top-secret" closed forum? Or maybe they don't care, and are ignoring us and will let this petition die and be forgotten, never having announced any decision... Hmmmm...

We need custom ranks. It'd be funny! You could be the JCF Microwave, or an elephant, or a JCF wanna-be, or anything else you can dream up. Heh. Cool. We should do it. :)

>>Møønßlãzé<< May 2, 2002 02:19 AM

Rename topic to echo cliff :-P

Edit: I have absolutely no idea why I said that.

Krezack May 3, 2002 02:49 PM

Custom ranks: User must be registered for X amount of months in order to use it and thus can't abuse it (you can abuse postcount - you can't abuse time).

Avatars: You put up a select group of avatars and disable custom ones. This way people can't abuse it (cept admins and mods...and i doubt they would).

Just some ideas but they work pretty well from what i've seen.
One of the best/worst ways for spamming is to make a spam section. So as long as you steer clear from that and moderate the board well enough then spam should be a minor problem rather then the large one that you people think it will be.

Wonders how Aiko's ranking would look this time if it's gonna be alowed
Aiko, the forum master over 'em all
;-P

Edit:
Alright, bad gramma, bad joke.
Next!

Violet CLM May 5, 2002 01:26 PM

Only he'd spell it "Aiko".

JJ BBoy KS Jun 8, 2002 04:15 PM

So....What's going to come of this? Nothing? (sorry if I revived an old topic. I didn't want to start a new one :p )

Shadow XZ Jun 10, 2002 09:37 AM

Yeah come on!! What about that avatars or ranks?

dopeh Jun 11, 2002 07:10 AM

My opinions..: (not that anyone cares but SO WHAT)

I personally prefer no avatars..This because all the avatars of about 700 members will be stored on the webserver which could slow down the forums. Of course you can disable them for yourself in your own user control panel, but it's in my opinion just wasting webspace.

Custom ranks..Yeah, I say the'd enable them, too. It won't really eat DB or webspace and it's fun. It brings us some more varation (??). And I don't see how to spam with custom ranks..Even by changing your rank every half an hour it isn't really annoying..And ofcourse this 'JCF member''s getting bored after such a long time..

But let's just wait for the admins what they decide..

JJ BBoy KS Jun 11, 2002 12:22 PM

We've been waiting! :D

I'm against avatars, but I want custom ranks.

They aren't like the post-count ranks, where people would spam to get a higher ranking. I don't see how any bad can come of them.

What about just a trial period? Like have them for a month, and review how well they went. If nothing bad happened, then keep them.

I know the admins do a great job, but I think something like this could be handled a bit better. It isn't like the world is going to come crashing down if something goes wrong with custom ranks. They can simply turn them off at the first sign of abuse. It doesn't have to be set in stone. There shouldn't even have to be a consensus between the admins. From this poll, there are obviously more people who want custom ranks than people who don't, so why not just give it a try? Maybe some of the people who voted no would change their mind if we tried it.

You could also put in a way to personally shut them off, and that would keep everyone happy.

EvilMike Jun 11, 2002 06:26 PM

They aren't giving a reply because none of them can come up with a good reason to disallow it. But they still want to disallow it.

Shadow XZ Jun 12, 2002 01:51 PM

Yeah that seems likely. Well let's just keep this post going. and maybe they'll find it.

dopeh Jun 15, 2002 10:55 AM

You think they haven't seen this thread yet? lol. they just ignore it, that's all.

JJ BBoy KS Jun 24, 2002 09:17 PM

Come on you guys, just give it a try. Please??? :)

YES! Thanks to all who voted for Custom Ranks to be allowed! Without you, (and the kindness of our mods. and admins... /\_/\') we never would have had this possible! Thanks again, you made a world of a difference!
