Pageclaim in name of stupid additions

(image broke :()

Hey Risp, would you mind stopping overwritting your images? It messes stuff up if you're looking back on how did it evolve from Violet's first two tiles.

Fawriel Aug 11, 2005 05:01 AM

Little update here... still updating the whole image because the old water's just too ugly and spoils the look of the whole tileset. I updated it and gave the fire some tiles to be placed on.. I didn't really check whether those actually tile, but according to my calculations they..should. *scratches head*
Anyway. I'll post more later today, but right now my attention span is gone and... I'm not sure..
I used a lot of filters to make that water, so I guess the amount of colors in it is quite a lot bigger than it was before... I don't know how that's going to affect the palletting process of the tileset. I don't want to be responsible for messing that up, but I didn't find a way to reduce the colors in that area.
Also, according to Gimp, the dark color used in the metal pipes/wood is 0,0,0 , so wouldn't that make it transparent?

blurredd Aug 11, 2005 05:35 AM

It used to be 0,0,1 but then the colors degraded after a while. I was going to fix all of the colors myself, but it can be fixed in PalSuite/TilesetPal when the time comes. PNG files aren't that great for making a tileset image, but it's the best choice for this kind of project.

A few changes. Damaged cavetiles added and ramp rocks improved.

Black Ninja Aug 11, 2005 08:55 AM

This thing is starting to look quite nice. I think I'll add something to it soon.

Event Checklist!

Code:

    *  Vine                  Check
    * H-Poles
    * V-Poles
    * Hooks
    * Sucker Tubes          N0 calls dibs!
    * Text Sign              Check
    * Exit Sign              Check
    * Arrows / Arrow Signs

    * Hurt scenery (Spikes)  Check
    * Water Block (Optional)
    * Belts (Optional)

I'm going to get working on the Sucker Tubes... No one else take it, ok?

FoxBlitzz Aug 11, 2005 10:05 AM

I think the water Faw made is too blurry and has too many colors. Why not just use Colorize instead?

and thats why i like it :P

Fawriel Aug 11, 2005 10:10 AM

Because everyone wants to have blue lava flowing in the background. Yay!

FoxBlitzz Aug 11, 2005 10:24 AM

What I meant was that color reduction might be a pain with that water. The image already exceeded 900 colors last time I checked- not a good sign.

Arrows are there.

FoxBlitzz Aug 11, 2005 10:31 AM

Maybe we should have up and down arrows too.

Birdie Aug 11, 2005 10:38 AM

:( 900 colors :(
byebye pretty water:(

Radium Aug 11, 2005 11:29 AM

What this really needs is some background things. I propose misty nebula stuff in blue and green.

Also, on a minor note, I think we should change Risp's lasers to be the same color as Cooba's fire. They're the only yellow thing in an otherwise blue, green, red, and brown tileset.

Ae Aug 11, 2005 11:40 AM

You know how much different this would look if Violet had posted something else as the first tile?

On the contrary, I think it would look exactly the same in every way except with a different ground tile. And less people would have entered, because vines are fun.

Ae Aug 11, 2005 11:44 AM

Thats what I meant, all the ground tiles would be different. It could have been a whole different theme.

Do we need Faw's acid tiles anymore, btw?

Risp_old Aug 11, 2005 11:50 AM

I say the forcefield should be blue.

cooba Aug 11, 2005 11:52 AM

Blue would indeed be a break from all those pale green tiles imo.

Fawriel Aug 11, 2005 11:56 AM

Agree.
And I think we should make the whole thing more colorful anyway.

White Rabbit Aug 11, 2005 12:00 PM

I say those ripped tiles should be red.

Risp_old Aug 11, 2005 12:06 PM

I say the ripped arrows should be removed and replaced by tiles that fit in.

Radium Aug 11, 2005 12:10 PM

I second Risp.

R3ptile Aug 11, 2005 12:54 PM

I second Rad.

Edit: So what's this tileset's theme again? I'm totally confused.

n0 Aug 11, 2005 01:42 PM

The theme is what you think it is. The theme is what you make it. Currently, the only summission for a title is "Kansas"

So, basicly, add whatever you feel will fit, and if it doens't, then people will edit it and make it fit.

Fawriel Aug 11, 2005 01:52 PM

ARkansas. >O

But I seriously think we should give it a fitting name like "Happy Land". "Fitting" as in "ironic", because this is just too weird to be taken too seriously.

FoxBlitzz Aug 11, 2005 03:14 PM

I just did another image color count.

With Faw's water: 477 colors
Without Faw's water: 226 colors

I think we can work on reducing the colors even further. It's definately possible. And sorry about what I said Faw. My suggestion is to make the water use just 6 colors like the others. I know Violet can reduce the tileset's colors using TilesetPal, but any kind of color reduction, no matter how good, will end up looking bad with too many colors. And as far as I know, TilesetPal doesn't support dithering, so it will look even worse.

n00b Aug 11, 2005 03:23 PM

I recall Lark's example of how good Tilesetpal is using 1000-something colors. Of course this wasn't a tileset that was going to be zoomed in.

blurredd Aug 11, 2005 03:48 PM

I personally prefer reducing colors in groups as opposed to all at once, but that might be more work than needed.

Also, Space Jungle Wasteland was sort of like a name suggestion (at least it seems like a more reasonable attempt then Kansas, but I have no idea what Violet was thinking), as well as Acidus and Cyborus. I'm leaning towards Acidus right now.

MSB3000 Aug 11, 2005 04:02 PM

Name suggestions:

Acidius
Kansas
Cyborgus
Moose
Maybe Something Else

Risp_old Aug 11, 2005 04:20 PM

I vote for kansas.

Radium Aug 11, 2005 04:36 PM

I second Kansas. "Ius" names are overused and don't really fit here.

Uh, Kansas does, though.

Birdie Aug 11, 2005 04:40 PM

Of course kansas fits..................

Fawriel Aug 11, 2005 05:08 PM

..that's a little.. too ironic.

What about.. The Land Where Stuff Happens!

Fine, I'll shut up.

Violet CLM Aug 11, 2005 05:22 PM

blur: What I was thinking...? You mean when I just drew those two tiles? I didn't have too much in mind, I just wanted to draw something interesting, maybe nature related because I felt bad about Moonblaze's contest.

Spacewood!

n00b Aug 11, 2005 05:22 PM

I'd rather go for a more general name. For example "Space Jungle Wasteland" can be any space jungle wasteland, from "Kansas" to "Acidus". Meanwhile "Kansas" can only be Kansas.

Fawriel Aug 11, 2005 05:32 PM

I've got it!
Greenland!
It's ironic because it's not! =D ( Or is it..)

Radium Aug 11, 2005 05:41 PM

I kind of like Spacewood.

Risp_old Aug 11, 2005 05:47 PM

I guess that works. Not exactly enough wood, though.
