I have watched the lists, and some players will accept only duels against players they are sure they win. It makes no sense to play duel season, if players will get good rank like this way, it just sucks.

Well that means you can play many games against good players :D

No, that's because I played duels to 1 with mav.

Duels to 1 > duels to 5 > duels to 10 8D

I was kinda miffed at myself for losing every duel, but I'm still happy I got at least one roast in every one of them :)
