Just popping in to say I know there are people who aren't fond of the Christmas Chronicles menu theme extending all the way from December through February. A more robust solution is in the works, but if you want a quick change, here's a 5.12 build minimally edited to show the theme only in December.

This dll doesn't work for me and will just make JJ2 load without plus.

I've tried this dll on multiple installations on three different computers (two windows 10, one windows XP), both 1.23 and 1.24, and I've not been able to reproduce your problem. Make sure you are extracting it into a folder that already has JJ2+ 5.12 in it, and that you are running the exe usually used to run JJ2+, not an unpatched JJ2 exe.

Important Bug

Hi and thanks for your work in this little forgotten vintage game (which was a big part of my childhood, I never even knew what "Sonic" is since that wasn't for PC)

I am having an important bug with the latest version

And I am pretty sure its caused by my keyboard map plus the keys, interacting with some of the changes (dev mode?). This was in Windows 11

The unmodded version of the game didn't do this

A prepacked 5.2 also didn't do it

I get giant slowdowns while in full screen mod, and some popup about "Character editor"

OS = Windows 11

Specs:
16 GB RAM DDR4
Geforce GTX 1650
Six-core Second-Gen AMD Ryzen.

As you can see this shouldn't happen

My keyboard remaps are:

Jump - Ctrl
Speed - Shift
Fire - Alt
Playing using up, down, left, right keys

Violet CLM Jun 19, 2024 09:02 AM

Can you elaborate on what this popup about "Character editor" means? That doesn't sound familiar at all

I'm curious why this has never addressed the 7week integer overflow bug,

Can you tell us what bug this might be? How to cause it, what it does? Ideally as a thread in https://issues.jj2.plus

New release (5.12a)
Please download it and confirm that everything seems to work normally, we're introducing an automatic updater and we're taking it slow to make sure everything works.

Violet CLM May 7, 2025 11:26 PM

We had an issue where plus_install.exe was potentially deleting admin.ini, jcs.ini, and/or plus.ini from people's JJ2 folders, but that should now be fixed. My sincere apologies that we did not catch that. I've reuploaded the installer so you should be able to download it again, hopefully for the last time, as next week JJ2+ should be doing that for you.

Violet CLM May 13, 2025 10:50 AM

New release (5.12b)
The automatic updater from 5.12a should download and install this one for you, ingame, next time you run JJ2+. Please let us know if this process works for you!

changelog

Violet CLM May 20, 2025 01:30 PM

New release (5.12c)
We're making fixes to the automatic updater that require you to download 5.12c through your browser yourself, hopefully you won't need to do this again and the automatic updater will work for everything going forwards. :)

New release (6.0)

Violet CLM Jun 17, 2025 03:04 PM

New release (6.0b)
We've made some fixes to death and cycling, and there's a new /hidespectators option for when you're having trouble seeing the game because there are too many spectators in a server.

I'm going to repeat the questions from May here, for visibility:
  • What should the update schedule be going forwards? Every week? Every two or three weeks? Something else?
  • Should it depend on what part of the game the next/previous update focused on, or how big the next/previous update feels?
  • Since JJ2+ now notifies you about updates and downloads updates on its own, do you want us to still announce every update in a J2O newspost and a JCF thread reply? (And, when we remember, a ModDB newspost?) Or is that redundant at this point?

changelog

  • Depends on the size/scope of the update.
  • Yes.
  • J2O newspost only if the update is large in scale or adds something very important e.g. 32-bit support. JCF thread replies if you feel like it, people are more likely to look for announcements in the Discord server anyway.

Violet CLM Jun 22, 2025 05:44 PM

Consider: without a J2O newspost, there would not automatically be an announcement in a Discord server.

Eh, my point still stands. If an update mostly focuses on bugfixes (that don't change MP gameplay, we know how the community reacts to those) or minor AS changes and additions like, let's say, a jjPLAYER method or property that indicates if the player is sugar rushing (please), I don't think it's necessary to make a J2O newspost about it. People will find out about the update when they boot up JJ2+ anyway.

Hello everyone. Thank you JJ2+ maintainers and developers for your tireless work. My two cents:

1. I'd be very happy with a quarterly release
2. I am content with any improvements you guys deem important to work on
3. I'd be glad to receive update news posts in J2O, if it is not too much work. I still only rarely check out Discord

Violet CLM Jun 24, 2025 09:22 PM

New release (6.1)
Adds native support for emoji and a new way to recolor chats and other text, using absolute colors instead of relative colors

If you installed 6.1 in the last eleven hours, you didn't receive plusEmoji.mut and plusEmoji.png. Sorry about that! You can get them here if this applies to you.

changelog

(Don't let this stop the timing/announcement discussion.)

Violet CLM Jul 8, 2025 05:58 PM

New release (6.2)
Does a lot of new work on Race mode, including retrofitting all the official race levels. Read lots more detail on J2O.

Currently we seem to have settled in a position of announcing larger-scale updates on J2O, like Primpy suggested, though I think I'll mostly lean on the side of announcing over not announcing, because it's nice to give people a chance to comment on new releases. We'd hoped that having lots of frequent, smaller updates would keep JJ2 players in a state of constant excitement, but if we don't actually tell you when there's a new update, it can feel like we're releasing new features and fixes into a void. Hearing nothing back from players is dispiriting.

changelog

Violet CLM Sep 1, 2025 08:17 PM

New release (6.3)
Some complicated settings which we hope can be used to figure out the best way for players (mostly clients) to interact with bullets (mostly from enemies). Read lots more detail on J2O because I'm not summarizing all that again.

Also bug fixes and Race HUD improvements.

changelog

Violet CLM Nov 18, 2025 02:49 PM

New release (6.4)
Let's help newer players understand multiplayer, so they don't just play CTF all day every day! Also a temporary menu logo in memory of Burger Becky. :( More on J2O.

changelog

Violet CLM Nov 25, 2025 06:19 PM

New release (6.5)
Improvements to Overtime, so it's more obvious and ends quicker. More on J2O.

changelog

Violet CLM Jan 6, 2026 12:25 PM

New release (6.6)
Revisions to how players' names look in servers, particularly in the context of the player list, in response to a long and productive community feedback session. More on J2O.

changelog

Violet CLM Jan 10, 2026 02:28 PM

New release (6.6a)
A thread in the issue tracker pointed out that it can be helpful for clients, not just server hosts, to know which players aren't running JJ2, so now clients, not just server hosts, see the red - symbol next to such players in the server player list.

changelog

Violet CLM Mar 10, 2026 02:20 PM

New release (6.6b)
After a detailed poll about specific elements of the server player list, a number of recommended changes have been added! Because the player list is now relying more heavily on reduced spacing, we've improved the kerning for certain characters (especially 1 and .) so they're more legible with reduced spacing and bleed less into adjacent characters. Also a couple other chatting bugs were fixed, and the shading in the Help pages was adjusted, again in response to a player poll.

changelog

Violet CLM Apr 3, 2026 09:41 AM

New release (6.6c)
I acknowledged that some of the player list details in 6.6b were a bit more tentative, based on areas where there wasn't a clear consensus among players, and so one of them reverted (the dark - - stats for spectators in unsorted player lists) and one evolved further (name widths). And there've also been a couple recent discussions about IP addresses that contributed to this build.

Barring unexpected major issues, there will be no further updates until after the Anniversary Bash is over.

changelog

Violet CLM Apr 28, 2026 11:32 AM

New release (6.6d)
Almost exclusively made up of server-side fixes to bugs that were noticed during the Anniversary Bash, although nobody reported some of them. We're getting farther afield from the player list, but a couple of the fixes are defensibly related to it, and it's funny to keep calling releases "Player List" for as long as possible.

changelog

Violet CLM Jun 29, 2026 11:04 PM

New release (6.6e)
All changes are client-side this time, and focused on adding player lists to the server list. We kicked around a lot of possible designs for this over the last couple months or so, and well, you get to choose which one you like by pressing F9 a lot!

changelog

cooba Jul 1, 2026 04:45 AM

Great update, thanks Violet.

Superjazz Jul 6, 2026 11:30 AM

Agreed! Also good to see how the list server details feature shaped into its final form via teamwork. :lori:

Violet CLM Jul 7, 2026 08:01 AM

New release (6.6f)
More changes to the main menu system, this time revisiting the home-cooked levels episode and adding subfolder support. And better handling of private servers in the server list, which don't send the most detailed information to potential clients.

changelog

Violet CLM Jul 13, 2026 11:01 PM

New release (6.6g)
Another grabbag release, a series of changes that couldn't really carry a changelog on their own. There's a behavior update for last year's /hideSpectators setting, a new /extraGemDrops setting to speed up Treasure Hunt and Head Hunters, and as you may have noticed, commands are being written out in camel case now, so you don't just see a long string of lowercase letters and give up trying to read what it says.

New website
JJ2+'s documentation has evolved yet again! From plus-readme.txt... to plus-readme.html... to jj2.plus.

After years of the readme being basically just the changelog and command list, with a few barely-updated sections attached, we now have a full website. Every fix and feature is explained in living color, themed after JJ2's original printed manual (the "Superhero's Handbook"). Common links docs.jj2.plus and gog.jj2.plus now go to the most relevant pages.

This is in preparation for JJ2+ being added as a One-Click Mod in a few hours! We're guessing the store page will be at https://www.gog.com/game/jazz_jackrabbit_2_plus, but if not, a few links on the website will need to change quickly, heh heh.

Being directly featured on GOG's mod list should give us much better visibility than an obscure beta channel. And as an added bonus, the one-click-mod distribution includes seven single player experiences to get new players started, all with their creators' permission.

We'll definitely need to keep updating the website in the days ahead, especially to add more screenshots, but it's great to have it basically all together in time for GOG.

Violet CLM Aug 9, 2026 11:32 PM

I've added a number of screenshots since the last post, especially on all the different gamemodes, and fixed some broken links. We could use some more screenshots in the multiplayer page in particular--does anyone want to contribute any?

umisery Aug 10, 2026 01:22 AM

@Violet CLM thanks for all your hard work!

Violet CLM Aug 12, 2026 10:34 AM

Another website update: I added unpatched JJ2's command line options to the command line section of the Settings page, because anyone interested in the command line is probably interested in all the command line, they don't want to have to go find a separate page for the unpatched options.

-nofilter is left out because I suspect JJ2+ ignores it, though I haven't tested that to be sure.

ForthRightMC Aug 17, 2026 01:48 AM

WOW Violet your current updates to JJ2+ are very good, especially because I have got a new laptop with Windows 11, and it works without any problems.

Great Work.

.
yes of course, i would like to help.
.
i myself have only one screenshot that would be suitable for this.
somehow i had kept this one screenshot all these years.
to use it one day ago, for such a similar project.
(to explain the Jazzjackrabbit2, online gameplay the newbies)
.
Here is the link to the screenshot I've kept all these years.
https://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/atta...1&d=1787261164
somehow this screenshot, affects the people, so that they want to play a battle
.
Now it's up to the community to decide, whether they consider this screenshot good enough..
i will stay out of the discussion about whether I want this screenshot included.
.
~ i think, only the best is good enough.
.
..so i give this deside to the cummunity of jazz, if they want to have this screenshot or not.
