Grytolle Jan 16, 2008 03:22 AM

That background is fine.

Vegito Jan 16, 2008 03:25 AM

The background is fine for a park :P
It's not a jungle :(

Stijn Jan 16, 2008 03:26 AM

Parks generally are in cities... Twilight Park has a nice cityscape for layer 7, and it's not even used here.

... Seriously? Thats just beyond nick-pickyism
Tho I bet if this was one of Snooze's levels you'd say "Best looking spring system EVAR"

Also, Parks are just as generally in suburban areas with no cityscape in sight.

Hitch Jan 16, 2008 01:58 PM

Hmph, Jimbob, it looks okay as of now. I recommend looking at some past levels using that tileset, to get some ideas and maybe mix those and yours together to make it better. Good luck.

Some people seem to enjoy replying to my posts almost always even if they lack anything of point to say.

n00b Jan 16, 2008 02:33 PM

Funny, I could say the exact same to your reply. My point is that you just seem to be nitpicking at extremely worthless details. "Springs look boring"? Again, seriously? On both an eyecandy and gameplay front, this seems like a very, very, extremely minor issue and more that you're just looking for excuses to speak ill of Jimbob's levels than anything else.

Violet CLM Jan 16, 2008 03:16 PM

We don't need this fight. Back on topic plz.
I'm liking the look of the Kingston Warfare. Does it only appear when you are drunk? I'm not sure how you could get that to work, but it would be pretty awesome.

Murderbeam Jan 16, 2008 04:34 PM

More Stuff from me, This time it's a single player level. I might put it in a level pack.

It's name is "Botany Research 409-A1".

.

^This part of the level is in one of the more Greenhouse-like areas.

^This is one of the Storage areas, where they store junk.

And Frozen isn't out yet 'cuz it's for a levelpack :P

...And to the topic of Kingston warfare, i think the background is fake.

Stijn Jan 16, 2008 04:48 PM

Oh no, it's definetely real.

Nice level, seems fun to play. I've always liked that (JJ1) tileset, though I can't remember its name at the moment.

Violet: No, the background is like that all the time, but it looks completely awesome in 8bit with the dizziness effect :D

Actually I don't do single player levels. I like doing MP levels.

Raven aka StL Jan 17, 2008 12:32 AM

@ Noob: I just pointed that out, even if it is a small detail...

@ Murderbeam: That looks solid, good job.

Fanolint

The placement of the trees in the blue rock seems wrong. If there are trees, why isn't there any grass then?
Nice to see that you're using two front layers for eyecandy.

cooba Jan 17, 2008 07:59 AM

Violet CLM Jan 17, 2008 10:06 AM

Arkansas Garden Brawl?

Ragnarok! Jan 17, 2008 10:52 AM

Firstly, there's a fanolint conversion?!?!
Secondly, Cooba you own. Except you smell ;[
Thirdly, Eigus, looks great.
Finally, Jimbob's level isn't bad, what's so wrong with the springs? O.o
This should be "finally" but uhh, me wants Fanolint. ;o

Violet CLM Jan 17, 2008 10:57 AM

There is, though the author deleted it from J2O after it was blasted for having bad colors, no background to speak of, and a problematic mask. Or I guess there's Ice Wolf's version too, but, uhh, yeah.

Hitch Jan 17, 2008 07:30 PM

I've started Memories again. Expect more in the future from this.

Jimbob Jan 17, 2008 07:49 PM

Slightly improved screen shot of my level:

Isn't it weird that the sucker tube looks a little bit like a 3?
P.S.: Too bad the stars don't show on these... :(
P.S.2: Also, the park in the bg is still there. It's just a bit too hard to see.

Raven aka StL Jan 18, 2008 12:47 AM

The sucker tube looks weird, gj.
Also, good job putting more stuff into the background.
The streetlight looks weird too.

The picture, gives me an odd feeling that we're looking at a hill that descends towards the horizon because the buildings are so low...

But this ain't bad, keep on progressing.

cooba Jan 18, 2008 07:38 AM

Odyssey into the Third Dimension

lol

Superjazz Jan 18, 2008 07:51 AM

I actually like the dimension-joke there. :D

Xobim Jan 18, 2008 08:00 AM

Haha, nice. :P

Ragnarok! Jan 18, 2008 08:41 AM

Owns. Also, Jimbob, that looks great.

Hitch Jan 18, 2008 09:05 AM

Reminds me of pie. As it's 3-d as well >O!

Raven aka StL Jan 18, 2008 11:05 AM

Awesome idea, Coober :]

The buildings barely move at all (lol) Hey, it rhymes ;p

Thank you!
Also, I have stopped working on Diamondus Wonderland due to laziness. *sigh*

Jimbob Jan 22, 2008 06:29 PM

Well, about my level...
I've decided to trash it because the layout wasn't going too well and it was too small and a little bit too platform-y. I have started a new level using the same tileset and going by the same name. However, instead of being battle mode, it's going to be CTF, which is my favorite game mode.
(screenshots will be here soon :D)

Raven aka StL Jan 23, 2008 01:34 AM

Approximately CTF levels get more attention than battle levels, so good idea. CTF is also the better gametype quite clearly.

o·pin·ion /əˈpɪnyən/
–noun
 1. a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.

I do agree though that CTF levels seem to get more attention. A really good battle level can be just as popular/famous though, however it seems that for a battle level to be played often it needs to be relatively better than a CTF level.

Ragnarok! Jan 23, 2008 10:41 AM

-prefers battle to ctf-.

DarkSonic Jan 23, 2008 12:57 PM

I prefer CTF over Battle, but Battle levels are often played as Team Battle now. And Team Battle can be fun with many people. Battle levels can be fun to make, because you don't have to make it balanced.

Nonomu198 Jan 23, 2008 02:19 PM

Lol you guys, we all know flag run pwnez it all.

Hitch Jan 23, 2008 03:34 PM

Flag run <33

Raven aka StL Jan 24, 2008 02:33 AM

Battle levels are often easier to make, for instance because (as DS said) they don't need to be that balanced. This gives the levelmaker a lot more freedom choosing the layout and making the placement.
And Stijn, hold a CTF vs. Battle poll to see what I mean. :|

Nonomu198 Jan 24, 2008 05:43 AM

I thoght balance levels are easier to make, cuz you can just do the same layout with diffrent PUs on the other side and that will be ok.

Do you make levels? :l
Also, I do find battle levels harder to make, and I believe they have to be higher quality to be considered the same quality as another ctf level.
