i think it's both hard, battle levels get underrated imo

Also, I do find battle levels harder to make, and I believe they have to be higher quality to be considered the same quality as another ctf level.

Wait, so you hint that I'm wrong, then you agree with me? That's just vicious.

I wasn't hinting that you're wrong, but I was questioning you, since you say they're harder to make, yet I'm not sure weather you even make levels.

Nonomu198 Jan 24, 2008 12:16 PM

I have made a hotel back in the begining of 2007 (well these are easy to make [wait I think you helped me]), I do have an old crappy unfinished ctf level, a begining of another one, and some battle levels that are (-). I wanna make some new levels but I don't have the time.

And It's kinda common sense to think that making half a level then make the same thing on the other side is easier then making the whole level.

Nothing can be deemed a fact about this. It is a question of opinion, after all.
That's the entire point.

@ Iconguy: Doing half a level and flipping it to do the other side is just... wrong.
Avoid doing that, at least.

QQ seems to be quite popular

Sure, but saying "CTF is also the better gametype quite clearly." makes it sound like you're presenting it as a fact, which it indeed is not :)

Raven aka StL Jan 25, 2008 04:28 AM

No, I was referring to it being (much) more popular, of course.

Edit: sorry, I tend to mix finnish 'ways of saying things' into english, will try to change that.

I hope you know that there are unsymetrical ctf levels, also, many symetrical ctf levels don't use symetrical eyecandy. Also, about your QQ argument, BBlair, and semi (probably the most played ctf levels, they're also unsymetrical) seem quite popular (although I hate them).

Even unsymmetrical ctf levels need balance, it's like a guideline that makes placement easier.

Unhit Jan 25, 2008 09:13 AM

well there's a difference between mask-symmetry and placement-symmetry. E.g. semi and bblair have neither. Many levels have placement, but no mask symmetry, and then theres levels that have both (like KMC e.g.). Right now, i can't think of a case with placement-, but no mask-symmetry.

That's what's called "symmetry" ;)

cooba Jan 25, 2008 12:31 PM

No, that's being lazy and/or inept at making symmetry.

FreeFull Jan 25, 2008 12:49 PM

He propably meant the easy way of flipping, the f key.

Hitch Jan 25, 2008 08:04 PM

Bleh, flipping the tiles can be useful at points in time, if you want to make some cool eyecandy effects, or whatever. But beware, it can get dangerous, if you know what I mean.

n00b Jan 26, 2008 07:44 AM

When did this thread shift to being all about making a hypothetical level?

Ragnarok! Jan 26, 2008 04:48 PM

I think it should work... Well this is part of my new race level. It has many shortcuts and stuff, I just thought I'd add a part of the level that looks hot. Also, The level mainly uses those blue cargo tiles in the level.

On a side note, no you do not play as the frog. I just thought it'd look cool.

Grytolle Jan 27, 2008 08:51 AM

frog race is a fun idea though

Unhit Jan 27, 2008 02:15 PM

y wtf, i thought i had posted that. well idd it does

Chiyu Jan 27, 2008 04:42 PM

Going to upload my (finally) finished WoC pack soon ^^.

Raven aka StL Jan 28, 2008 12:13 AM

... Which is just wonderful news.
I'll make sure to review it as thoroughly as possible.

FawFul Jan 29, 2008 07:58 AM

lost ctf game? i never said anything in my post about those words i even dunno what you mean

cooba Jan 29, 2008 09:21 AM

Birdie meant to say that your screenshot reminds you of this.

Raven aka StL Jan 29, 2008 01:36 PM

Take cover! The tree spam is coming.

And DS, that looks nice, it looked almost as nice when I last saw it.

Violet CLM Jan 29, 2008 02:55 PM

DS, you need a lot more variety in the plain "dirt" walls. There are a lot of areas where you're obviously using the same tile over and over, and there are two different variations of that, even besides anything else you could shove onto walls, and the edges look pretty sterile too. Other than that, pretty interesting. :)

Raven aka StL Jan 30, 2008 12:04 AM

DS can't let go of his style. ;)

*btw i already put away almost all tree's in the foreground so it don't gets annoying when ur playing

Eigus Jan 30, 2008 10:03 AM

Played both levels online and they're nice. (ofc they were unfinished.)

Coming soon: screens of some other battle level, a "sequel" to an old, unfinished, (-)y ctf.

not

Bboy Type7 Feb 1, 2008 01:45 PM

I'm going to make a level of my own using my own tileset. I'm making a techno tileset.

cooba Feb 1, 2008 01:58 PM

I told you guys, this is the year of tilesets.

Raven aka StL Feb 1, 2008 05:20 PM

I'll just go ahead and expect much, as usual ;)

Eigus Feb 2, 2008 12:50 AM

bcuz the original sucked (-)(-)(-)(-)(-)
