We've got over half the month to go. More wood can be added later if needed.
(bigger priority: slopes! normal looking slopes!)

Radium Aug 11, 2005 06:00 PM

Wooden normal looking slopes!

Risp_old Aug 11, 2005 06:04 PM

There needs to be at least background trees. Like in beta JJ2 Jungle.

Birdie Aug 11, 2005 06:17 PM

someone please make a "REAL" ramp tile

FoxBlitzz Aug 11, 2005 06:40 PM

I made some quick wooden stairways for slopes.

Risp_old Aug 11, 2005 07:02 PM

I don't really like that ramp. Eh, too tired to fix at the moment.

Another couple of changes. Down/up signs (versions that are attached to the side of a wall would also be intelligent, but I ran out of effort), blue forcefields, and another damaged cavetile for more variety in background.

Wraith Aug 11, 2005 07:22 PM

Organicism!

Organic slopes for anyone who wants them.

Violet CLM Aug 11, 2005 07:25 PM

Not too fond of that laser.. it's too solid and pillar looking. Try lightening it up like the original.

good, wraith.

Risp_old Aug 11, 2005 07:26 PM

Eh, too tired to do it. Someone else do... I was trying to conform to the lightning colors, but I guess that wasn't a good idea after all.

I mean I didn't know if Kansas was what you thought the name should be or just something you randomly chose for a filename. Sorry if what I said was misleading.

I prefer the yellow version over the blue one. It doesn't have to be blue since the other lightning tiles don't even look the same.

EvilMike Aug 11, 2005 09:19 PM

I really think those brown "wood" tiles could benefet from being a different colour. As they are now, they clash with the green "organic" tiles in a bad way. The mockups blur posted a few pages back demonstrate this.

White Rabbit Aug 11, 2005 11:59 PM

Those brown pillar things are WOOD? They look like semi-shiny metal. Even I could make better-looking wood textures than that....except I've got nowhere to upload them. :p

FQuist Aug 12, 2005 02:06 AM

I vote for 'Kansas' since it's such an insane name.

cooba Aug 12, 2005 02:35 AM

The forcefield itself should be animated as well imo.

White Rabbit Aug 12, 2005 03:22 AM

I bring you Kansas! :p

I had a wooden raft/telephone pole log theme in mind when I first made those tiles, and I can't see it as anything else. However, the ambiguous nature of those tiles was part of the reason why it was not included in Windstorm Fortress.

I don't know... wood-like things and vine-like things should go together, but I guess all of the acid makes it lack any sense.

Send them to me and I'll upload them to chaos.foxmage.com for you.

And later today, I shall provide ye with background eyecandy!
Lessee.. there are 5, 6, 7 and 8... 8 is the sky ( duh ), 7 can be used for acid/water, so layers 5 and 6 are free for me to use for stuff sticking out of the liquid of choice. *nodnods*

blurredd Aug 12, 2005 07:20 AM

Layer 8 doesn't have to be just for the sky (several Epic tilesets like Labrat and Inferno use alternatives), but it would be best if a textured background was added anyway. The more variety for the background tiles the better.

And here's an idea. Alternate versions? I think it would be great if one version had lava instead.

Edit: Fiendish Mike might have been right. Below are some different wood tiles. Compare to this.

It's unfinished as you can see.

Birdie Aug 12, 2005 08:51 AM

i like those wood tiles alot more :)

Fawriel Aug 12, 2005 08:57 AM

I don't know.. it looks so pale now.. but also a lot lighter.
Maybe make the color a little more powerful, but not as dark as before..? If it's not too much work.

Birdie Aug 12, 2005 09:15 AM

but it blends in more:)

Fawriel Aug 12, 2005 09:27 AM

That's not necessarily a good thing. Contrast is important as well. I guess you need a balance between the two... such an almost all green tileset is just ugly.

White Rabbit Aug 12, 2005 09:35 AM

I think we should rename the tileset to School Soup.

They were meant to be trigger scenery things that could be activated and deactivated. You can't both animate and make trigger scenery of stuff like that without using two/three layers for it.

Actually I reduced the lighting. I made some tentative changes:

And try this on for size (alternate version):

Risp_old Aug 12, 2005 10:43 AM

Hmm... the alternate version isn't too bad. It makes the forcefields and sword-in-stones look better.

Blackraptor Aug 12, 2005 10:47 AM

Use the green one as day and the brown as night?

Risp_old Aug 12, 2005 10:47 AM

At night the acid becomes lava!

blurredd Aug 12, 2005 10:59 AM

Day and Night are such limiting names. Maybe some more longer the line of Apocalypse and Acidic, or Toasty and Corrosive.

Risp_old Aug 12, 2005 11:02 AM

Kansas- now in Toasty and Corrosive flavors!

minmay Aug 12, 2005 11:30 AM

What he said.

White Rabbit Aug 12, 2005 01:23 PM

It makes the forcefields look like icecream, but I do like the shading of the tiles in the night version very much. LD

n0 Aug 12, 2005 05:13 PM

Let's re-invent the tube, shall we?

How to use

blurredd Aug 12, 2005 07:11 PM

It's an interesting concept although limiting, especially if it's going to use 3 layers. I think it would be a good idea to include traditional tubes as well.

n0 Aug 12, 2005 11:30 PM

Hrm... If you don't need the masks of the tiles to walk on, then it only takes 3 and 4, but if you need the masks, then yes, it takes 3, 4, and 5. It could be limiting, but no one seems to be making background eyecandy, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I'll make the normal tubes as well. I should have them done by tomarrow night.

*refrains from cracking a cheesy joke about who is "nobody"*

blurredd Aug 13, 2005 06:04 AM

A huge update:

Mostly rock and wood stuff as well as a multitude of minor fixes. I also might go on a shading frenzy so that the tiles fit in even more.

I should mention that the blue water tiles don't tile that well, so if someone decides to fix them keep that in mind. And I think the green vine-like tiles are holding the tileset back. Maybe they shouldn't have been used so much.

Birdie Aug 13, 2005 09:32 AM

while your on your frenzy please revamp the "Forcefeild" things that look like yellow posts

Risp_old Aug 13, 2005 09:36 AM

They probably are.

Oh, and why did you add the JJ1 arrows again? They don't fit whatsoever, expecially considering only the up and down versions have been added.

White Rabbit Aug 13, 2005 09:37 AM

What about vertical sloped tiles?
