Indeed, this sounds great.

Hell even better- you could outsource the work to students!!

Haha, I kid. After playing Bad Day LA, I'm not sure outsourcing to an emerging source is all that good of an idea.

FreeFull Feb 10, 2007 03:30 AM

It's surely going to be better than Jazz 3 by Epic. Ok, it is already better:).

Hare Feb 12, 2007 04:10 AM

You know, I may have to agree. No clue what Epic has in mind for JJ, but seems they want to rework his character. This is like, classic Jazz Jackrabbit.

I'm looking forward to this :).

GoldRabbit Feb 27, 2007 09:55 AM

so,any new news?

...or no?

ShadeJackrabbit Feb 27, 2007 10:37 AM

...can somebody give a link to my "Goodbye for now, Baggers," type thread?

ThunderPX Feb 27, 2007 12:14 PM

As seen on the last page.

mike231 Mar 12, 2007 03:26 PM

Ah. this is nice, things seem to be going well here.

CONGRATS! Can't wait to see it completed.

Birdie Mar 12, 2007 05:51 PM

Read through the whole thing mike, you'll find out baggers stopped because he didn't have time anymore.

Avram Mar 19, 2007 07:02 AM

This was very nice idea. It's just too bad it died... actually it's on hold :) I don't have permission to post new threads just yet but I'll ask here: Are there any free jazz 3d models to download?
No, I'm not yet another kid which thinks that he can make brand new Jazz3d. I know what are my skills, and I am aware that I can't make whole game, I'm just yet another Delphi programmer and I want to play around with Jazz model (if available) in Delphi :)

Baggers Aug 27, 2007 12:46 PM

Right Guys...been a long time and I'm afraid I don't have good news.

I have just reloaded DarkBasicPro and went to start editing MIA and found that much of the code is outdated due to core updates in darkbasic. This would mean going through all the code trying to hunt down the thousands of new bugs.

Frankly looking through the code I realize how far I have come in this project, I feel like I was a newbie at the beginning and the cracks in my coding are beginning to show.

I feel at this point I would like to close this chapter and start afresh. I want to apologize to all of you as I did truly believe I would be able to finish this project.
I understand that you may not wish me well after this and I accept that.

Once again thank you for all the help you guys have given me over the years and I wish you all well.

ShadeJackrabbit Aug 27, 2007 12:59 PM

OH MY GOD. He's alive! Hello Baggers! No problem, do what you must!
*dies*

Jerrythabest Aug 27, 2007 01:20 PM

You mean you start all over again again? Well, if it has to... Good to see you back tho.

Marijn Aug 30, 2007 07:13 AM

A rewrite is a good thing to do I gues, also remember that you dont make the same mistakes and improve the engine more with just a clean rewrite :)

Um, this doesn't really sound like "I'm still going to work on it, just starting over" to me...

Marijn Aug 30, 2007 10:57 AM

Agreed. But I think its more like "Oohw yeah.. thnx, - bye" .. I think a lot of people want to build a fan game alone and wouldn't like to share! The Jazz 3d project was going very good ( my opinion ) and suddenly the project called MIA and it looks like the real jazz3 project is dead. I don't accuse Baggers for choosing it, but, again, there is nothing to continue. Its likely such a project ever complete if anyone tries to mind his own business.

Jerrythabest Aug 31, 2007 11:10 AM

At first I personally 'disagreed' with the idea of renaming the Jazz3D project to MIA but after some more reading about it MIA actually looked great. But I must agree with UR, my previous post was more a question than a conclusion.

Dermo Aug 31, 2007 09:00 PM

Wait so this is a dumped project??? :(

FreeFull Sep 6, 2007 11:22 AM

Going on very slowly

Jerrythabest Sep 6, 2007 12:27 PM

How do you know?

Dermo Sep 6, 2007 02:28 PM

Yeah, what Jerry said, how do you know?

n00b Sep 6, 2007 02:43 PM

I beleive Baggers has said multiple time that he sometimes works on it during the scraps of free time he gets while teaching.

Jerrythabest Sep 7, 2007 03:42 AM

Maybe he should teach how to make it so his class can help him ;p

Hare Sep 17, 2007 07:55 AM

Aww, *salutes* Good Shot, Baggers. No hard feelings, glad it was a growing experience for you. It was awesome just to work on the JJ model :).

Marijn Sep 17, 2007 12:35 PM

Im a sad panda.

Love & Thunder Sep 27, 2011 06:09 PM

Darn it, I'm a bit late to the party, aren't I?

Is this project still alive, or am I a bit late to the party?...

Aww. Oh well, maybe you could recreate it? It's not all bad, let's face it, it's better to have a fully-functional MIA with no bugs than a broken MIA with loads of bugs.
Wait, hold on, Baggers hasn't been on since... Okay... This project's dead. :( It was good while it lasted. :( I wish this project would've stayed around a bit longer, or that the code hadn't become obsolete.

Hey, I've got an idea! Wait, no, no, it would never work. Besides, where would I find a chicken dancing on a beach in a swimsuit this time of year? Forget I said that, now I will mysteriously disappear! (Puff of smoke)... Agh, darn it. I've got to work on those mysterious disappearances.

luke11685 May 22, 2016 07:54 AM

Well actually I just converted some Jazz Jackrabbit 3 maps from .unr map files to.t3d from Unreal Editor 1/Unreal Engine 1.In UE4 it just import in blank map just utility modifiers of ue1 editor icons nothing else in UDK imported .t3d map files have blank vertices aka map view just lots of wireframes not like lightmap viewports from ue1.

Baggers May 22, 2016 11:59 PM

Holy hell, blast from the past. I'm bummed I never finished this. Hubris of youth and feature creep unfortunately. When I got to Uni I was basically advised to put this down to focus on studies.
I still have massive amounts of love for Jazz Jackrabbit, I would love to have time to dive back into this but that doesnt look likely right now.

Big hugs to anyone who supported this, sorry about the result.

SAMI May 23, 2016 01:19 AM

Maybe its possible to finish it if you find some people and work in groups. Lets say, group of 10~15 people?

Even Adsolution fangamress developer has 4 people not more, but it's person from another forum. What about cliche of 1 developer of fangame and 40 fangame developers speaking of arabean fairy tales. Some trivia for Unreal Engine:
T3D is format for BSP geometry

they are so called BRUSHES and when you import T3D file into scene those will look as wireframe until you BUILD GEOMETRY (in UDK)

Love & Thunder May 23, 2016 08:12 AM

Oh hey, look it's one of my first posts! I remember making that post and then realising "Oh crap, this thread is old!" And then hastily editing it to not make me look like an ass, only to realise hours later that it just made me look like even more of an ass than it would have if I'd just left it. XD

Anyway, nice to know that there's still a chance of this being worked on eventually. I remember being really excited about this back in my lurker days. Would be nice to have a Jazz fan project finished for a change (although, this trend seems to be changing since Louis K's JJ3DX was released, and Project Carrot seems to be coming along nicely, so who knows...).

Darkhog Aug 31, 2016 07:24 PM

Any chances of OP releasing sources on github or whatever? With more coders and other people working on it it could be possibly made faster. As the luck has it, I have experience in Dark Basic (and game basics in general) so I could try and help making it. And maybe other people could go in as well.

With the power of Open Source, work goes faster when people with right skillset are willing to help. Until then, the project is unfortunately MIA (pun intended).
