Well, not every level with that tileset.. not going to give an example though. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing all these levels for the contest I haven't seen yet. And let's hope everyone can finish them before the deadline.

minmay May 28, 2006 04:07 PM

In an attempt to make Cooba happy, I'm making an overly generic level.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, and a semi-generic level that I'm not sure I'll finish or not since it's going in the wrong direction now.

XLM Woods - Far East has been released

Chiyu May 29, 2006 12:12 AM

A quest level together with Dx, and a solo project.. Will be released in June :)

cooba May 29, 2006 06:32 AM

A screenshot may be worth a thousand of words, but a sample is worth millions of screenshots.

For what it's worth, the actual level will be a JTF (CTF with player classes) featuring a Medic class, which is able to heal teammates. Both Medics and the eyecandy were ideas I've had in my mind since August 2005, and this level finally ties them both in one level. The layout so far is 60% done, it's rather simple and flattish, but open and suitable for more people than it seems in JCS.

Also, Defost, my eyecandy with the Exoticus tileset was not overly generic and it still was (at least in my and several people's opinion) better.

I remember you saying you were good at making awesome small area's and then making the rest of the level suck, though... ;)

I do sort of dislike the eyecandy in my Exoticus level (okay, so it flat out stinks) but I see nothing special in yours.

And, I'm soon going to upload the overly generic level and watch everyone flame it for its small size.

cooba May 29, 2006 09:29 AM

DS' level officially owns.

OWNS.

minmay May 29, 2006 09:43 AM

My generic level which I officially just uploaded officially SUCKS.

Well, maybe not. Someone rate it so that I know.

R3ptile May 29, 2006 09:50 AM

It's too small and has limited gameplay too be rated properly

cooba May 29, 2006 09:50 AM

It's not that bad, and I like the eyecandy there better than in the Islands thing.

And just so my humble sample doesn't go unnoticed:

In my experience, generic levels have poor gameplay. Well, the ones I've played.

@Cooba: Well, it's okay. Seems a little generic, though.

I'm overusing the word "generic" today.

minmay May 29, 2006 05:42 PM

Wow, I'm amazed. So far, people actually like Generic Battle Level!

minmay May 30, 2006 05:53 AM

I find most every level I come across overly generic looking. And if all you want is "omb this rox ur incredible," just say so. Considering that you called it "humble" yourself, I didn't expect you to expect really positive feedback.

I think orange sky contrasts too much.

Ðx Jun 1, 2006 06:23 AM

Indeed, i will change it probably.

Xobim Jun 1, 2006 10:49 AM

I like it that way, it looks like a morning on the Diamdusts...

Spiffy.

Violet CLM Jun 1, 2006 11:58 AM

It's not bad, but it's severely limited by being Diamondus and thus kind of flat. The level would look a lot better if you could find some way to introduce curves.

Ðx Jun 1, 2006 12:03 PM

Download it

Look wicked! Contact me on MSN, i want to tell ya something about the lvl

Birdie Jun 9, 2006 05:50 AM

Those look pretty good DS, also a symetrical level I see.

Violet CLM Jun 10, 2006 05:00 PM

Dunno how much sense it makes to release screenshots at this stage, but whatever.

Strato Jun 10, 2006 06:02 PM

Are you remaking levels from that game?

Violet CLM Jun 10, 2006 06:38 PM

Remaking? There's not room for new episodes, so everything has to be overwriting old levels, if that's what you mean.

Strato Jun 10, 2006 06:42 PM

Huh? I meant making the levels from that game into jj2 ones. Anyway, here is a pictorium of my up and coming level. It's the greatest =D

Looks cool. Although I see a lack of jazz.
Would it happen to be a custom j2a?

n00b Jun 10, 2006 07:10 PM

Explain the lack of Hud, then.

You can't change the hud with a custom J2a, and no mass amount of triggers can make a custom health system.

Hud could be one big sprite, and for the health I have no clue! =D
EDIT:
found out a way the health could work, all the letter sprites could be replaced, and a program edits the text memory to display health in that spot, and the asm that makes text move gets nop'd!

n00b Jun 10, 2006 07:51 PM

EDIT- Or it could just be made with what I think was a Hocus Pocus Level Editor violet made a while back.

Violet CLM Jun 10, 2006 09:25 PM

It's hardly past-tense, but yeah. Much experimentation and whatnot have finally gotten me to the point where most features of the levels can successfully be edited. :D

How I can make my own levels? (a little bit off topic) :P

If this was some other game like Gish, or JJ1, I'd happily explain it to you, But JJ2?
The Level editor is right in the start menu directory for christsakes! Plus it doesn't even take a brain surgeon to figure out how to lay the tiles in Coherent structures.

DoubleGJ Jun 13, 2006 09:31 AM
