Epic does not want to waste the resources to reopen the server UF. If it was not for Nimrod's bugging, they probably would not have set up the mirror. You seem to be the only one ticked off that nimrod was able to pull some strings.

Also, last thing. Your definition of stupid is coinciding with "person with too much spare time on his hands and is merely trying to find ways of entertaining himself". I just crash nowadays for entertainment, not to wage war against some guy who I'd love to personally attack here if not for the censorship.
The absolutly hilarious point in this quote is you just confirmed you are crashing for entertainment.

Maybe he is, but I and quite a few other community members would quite happily do the same if only they released the (-) program.

I might make an open source list server program and give it to everyone.

FQuist Jun 7, 2006 02:53 PM

A small reminder - this is a hacking reports topic. Non-constructive chit-chat should be placed in other threads.

But then you have the problem of having too many listservers. Let's say there are fifteen servers, a game on each one. The game has to contact each one to display all 15 games, and that can take a full minute or more depending on the listserver ping times.

We would also have to keep a list updated of all the servers, as then you have the problem of servers popping up or going down.

Two servers, as previously discussed, provides enough service for the game.

Besides, what good would the program be useful for? It is not ment for casual use.

Not if the servers constantly synchronize.

jam Jun 8, 2006 07:05 AM

Yeah, like Monolith's and Nimrod's currently do.

Stijn Jun 8, 2006 07:09 AM

Then again I don't see anything wrong with the current situation so why bother changing it?

Speeza Jun 8, 2006 07:40 AM

theres no point in more listservers .

Jerrythabest Jun 8, 2006 10:04 AM

indeed. it would mean you have to block unknownfile crashers on more servers

Hee hee hee. May I reccommend you to the local comedy club?

Honestly, I'm shocked that you haven't heard of NeoAC yet. And I'm not blocked on the list servers, because nobody cares.

Anyways, I'm currently writing a list server in mircscript. Unlike my first attempt this one will support binary listings and not just redirect. It'll be releasified when I get most of the stuff working. Listing abilities will come first and binary list generation will come last.

Grytolle Jun 10, 2006 08:23 AM

i hart mircscokets

Whatever. Keep working on more important stuff than crashing servers because of some listserver admin.

THATS why PE was and still is called useless. Not because no one didn't want to stop crashers/hackers, but because everyone could do it just fine without you to begin with.

That's going WAY away from what my original point was.

What I meant was nobody was willing to help me, but only willing to critisize my work. It wasn't constuctive critisism either, it was "Your work is useless". Well, at least I tried to help, but nooooo, everybody didn't WANT to help me help others, they just wanted to say my work was crap. That isn't ok. I was trying to help and I was getting a lot of crap for it, which is sad, as if I had gotten some help, things might of turned out differently, but no, now I'm not very liked and people keep going on about PE when it's like, let's see, uhhhh, about 3 months ago? Yeah, that's right. 3 months. You might ask then why am I discussing it, and the reason is that I'm still fustrated that when someone tries to help they're looked down upon, and I think it's wrong. Heck, I would of still been willing to help the community, but PE has shown me that I'll just get a (-)load of crap for it.

Puffie40 Jun 11, 2006 11:56 PM

Shadowrabbit, we have gone through these points before. PE was useless, and NooB's quote were the main reasons why. I will ignore these because it has been well discussed.

I think the main problem is that you were continuing to try and whip up support for an idea that was already deemed useless by the rest of the community, and that resulted on you getting picked on.

If you had "Dropped" the subject, the thread would have faded into obscurity, and no one would have picked on you anymore.

The reaction you recieved was not the community's. It was human behaviour. Picking on somthing seems to be a characteristic of all the animals and humans on this planet. The main reason being they like the reaction they get. Believe me. I know ALL about being picked on (and NOT on the internet) :(

My suggestion would be to ignore the pickings, as all it does is hurt you mentally, and it should end in a little bit. The main reason you are continually being picked on is you keep bringing the subject up, and that starts it all over again. So please, stop bringing it up (It's called "Swallowing your Pride")

NovaStar Jun 13, 2006 02:40 AM

You don't know how many times I've been picked on and outcast. It's probably affected me badly.

BTW, it's been since Grade 1, so about 6 years.

It is very human-behaviour-ish to not like a Useless Middleman who won't let go.

EDIT- It's also hard to give constructive critisicm to something like PE without completely revamping it. No one wants a middleman in reporting, and thats what PE seemed to only do.

FQuist Jun 13, 2006 03:40 PM

This issue really is something that should be dropped because discussing it just clutters up the forum.

(not saying in my admin capacity)

Blackraptor Jun 13, 2006 03:53 PM

Before the discussion is over, I just want to put in my 2cents.

Firstly, unless you (ShadowRabbit) are a listserver admin, or at least know how to code programs that can help prevent attacks, I really don't see how you and PE could've helped. From what I've seen (and heard) all you could've done really is get a list of people crashing servers and such (with proof, of course) and just show the list to Nimrod or another listserver admin. That's pretty useless when someone could just do it themselves as it's faster, instead of passing it onto someone who in turn passes it on to Nimrod/staff. It's basically like you wanting to tell someone to move, and instead telling their friend or someone right next to them to pass on the message to them instead of just asking them directly, or something. I know you tried to help (as you seem to mention this quite often), but really, I don't see anything you could've done to aside from just reporting the crashers yourself, which is basically what we do now.

I've probably wrote this in vain as my message is shared and previously mentioned by other people, but I just wanted to get that off my chest. Also, my comparisons suck.

That's pretty much it I guess.

R3ptile Jun 14, 2006 05:04 AM

50 Cents, yo

Hacking reports

uh how do you report something like this?

it's not a good sign...

EvilMike Jun 15, 2006 03:27 PM

What exactly is the problem? The last line about the malformed packet? All that shows is that neoAC is doing it's job.

Birdie Jun 15, 2006 05:11 PM

You have illegal windows only tools. :(

Monolith Jun 15, 2006 08:10 PM

The IP shouldn't contain x's though.

NovaStar Jun 16, 2006 03:38 AM

Indeed. Looks like someone got new tools... >.>

No... that means either NeoAC has a bug in printing numbers, or that was edited.

Jerrythabest Jun 17, 2006 10:44 PM

in the first case, I think you dont have to get bored soon

IMO, a malformed packet is bad. I guess JJ2 doesnt send those itself.

Dermo Jun 19, 2006 10:42 AM

Don't ppl Ever give up...

This person called me an idiot. And then he said i'd be a bigger idiot if i kicked him off. So naturally (just to be funny), I kicked him off. So he tried to crash me and here's the evidence.

http://rapidshare.de/files/23519855/...eport.bmp.html

Now I kind of find this funny that people would even continue try to crash servers. After NEOAC came out, it's not easy to crash servers.

and it's getting annoying having to alway upload all these files...

Birdie Jun 19, 2006 03:53 PM

Perhaps it was someone inexperianced trying to get a long name?

n00b Jun 19, 2006 04:36 PM

Why is the text marked out?
For all we know, you could be framing someone, by using staging this with a false IP and saying it was someone else

R3ptile Jun 20, 2006 12:38 AM

I almost died from laughter when I saw that post. Believe it or not, but it was me who called you an idiot, under a fake alias. I just went to another server, I didn't try to crash you and that IP isn't even mine. Now show the rest of the log, and YOU'll be the one who gets banned, (PA)

[Personal attack edit. On an additional note, crashing treats do not get you banned - FQuist]
[Not when the person himself admits that he crashes, like in Jerry's case -me]

Dermo Jun 21, 2006 02:26 PM

Actually, crashing is crashing. And yes, threats aren't a reason to ban ppl like FQuist said. But this was no threat! You actually friggin tried to crash me. So yes this could possibly get you banned. Also, I wish I did have a copy of the unblocked pic, but sadly i don't and if you have a way of getting it back, lemme know and i'll post it as a THREAD on JCF and ppl can see how you threatened, then crashed.

(or attempted to anyway)

He has said that wasn't his IP, it was probably some newbie who just learned about regedit.

The IP that appears in the screenshot isn't even mine

Jerrythabest Jun 22, 2006 11:22 AM

it isnt mine either 8D

who knows if that was a crashing attempt? the only way to really find out who it may be, is by making NeoAC log IPs with the nicknames used to join servers. That would help a lot. a WHOLE lot.

n00b Jun 22, 2006 12:16 PM

... or maybe see the uncensored image and determine if r3p really said anything threatening.

Dermo Jun 23, 2006 05:53 PM

it wasn't rep. He's just got a guilty conscience so i decided to play along and see if he gets banned lol!

Guilty conscience my foot if thats what he said after reading your report.

You do realise, that we really can't trust any of your reports after this, right?

Stijn Jun 25, 2006 12:03 PM

It's been asked enough now. Everyone who replies to this topic with a reply that does not contain anything useful (that is especially to Jerry, who knows what was in the deleted reply) gets a full warning. That includes fake hacking reports.
