So criticizing is a negative trait now? Okay, enjoy your levels then.

I never even said that.
Also, -
EDIT: Again, took out the negativity.

Nonomu198 Sep 1, 2008 12:34 PM

I dunno what Cooba told you in person, but right here in this thread there was no "lol u suc n0b" post about your work (at least not odin's). He just said what you can improve.

No, I'm not mediocre. I'm terrible.

Anyway, Jimbob, I totally didn't mean to insult you as a levelmaker. I understand that your level isn't a finished product, and I merely meant to give you advice. I know some people like to throw down a layout and then work on eyecandy, while personally I like to do the eyecandy along with the layout. I was just suggesting things to do. Totally didn't mean it in a negative way.

Ok, I'm sorry. I overreacted. But I'm ok now. *hugs* lol
Um, anyways, yes, I'm working more on the eyecandy and obviously trying to improve with the advice you gave me.
But in my opinion, using masked tiles in a slowly-moving background isn't very distracting, unless you overdo it. Fyi, I've taken out the horizontal stick and added two vertical ones in it's place, btw.
*totally takes back the previous post directed toward Odin*

Erm, about people not wanting you to make levels anymore, it may seem like that, but they're all only trying to help. I mean I even felt like that once because of... some people I won't mention names. What you need to do is jus try to infer from what they say that needs improvement, then show off the new and improved version (I hate it when people say that, I mean, it doesn't make sense, nothing can be new, and improved, because if its new it can't be improved, otherwise its old, and if its improved it cant be new. Anyway, keep up your level making; soon, your practice will pay off and you'll be proud in a way you can't imagine.

I know these posts were probably necessary to what was going on but, please can we go back to showing the new levels what u are buiding and goning on j2o?

Uhm, yes, like I said, I totally take that back (what was directed toward Odin at first).
Anyways, I don't really have anything new to show since I said what I showed earlier was the last screenshot I'll show until it's been entered or released.

Why so serious

nice pic ds.

Speeza Sep 1, 2008 05:02 PM

It does however show how different a level can be by useing diffrent tiles and whatnot.

Jimbob Sep 1, 2008 05:11 PM

Update: I have decided to change my level's name to Highland Glaciers, I find that is a waaay better, more fitting name.
Providing one last screenshot:

Speeza Sep 1, 2008 05:18 PM

It looks great. I think there just perhaps needs to be something more on the , ummmmm. "purple ground below the grass".

1. You notice how your diamonds end up forming lines? Fix that.

2. You use the same ground tile over and over. There's about 3 different variations of ground tiles. Use them.

3. This was a little hard to illustrate, but basically you use a background wall behind the same background wall. Another perspective issue, same as with 1. in the first picture I did. It'll work, but it just rubs me the wrong way.

I smell dirty laundry.

Ragnarok! Sep 2, 2008 05:08 AM

I like that more as a DOM )=

Raven aka StL Sep 2, 2008 05:31 AM

CTF>>>any other gametype.

And real nice pic, PJ. ... Ignoring the 'light spam'.

Speeza Sep 2, 2008 05:49 AM

ok louis enough with ctf owns everything. Didn't you make a thread for that ;)

No, it's City of the Sn00zE ;p

And I have to agree there.. we know that CTF owns everything in your opinion now, Emp.

Violet CLM Sep 2, 2008 06:48 AM

PJ, first pic: that is an incredible color choice for the sky. It makes the level look absolutely gorgeous. Well done.

Ragnarok! Sep 2, 2008 08:03 AM

I think the level could do with some lighting. :o

It's still great. :]

Speeza Sep 2, 2008 08:22 AM

Lightning wouldn't go well with the background.

Ragnarok! Sep 2, 2008 09:23 AM

Hmm, but what about in the "underground"?

Yes, you have quite a good eye there. I didn't notice how the gems seem to line up, but hey, nobody can see everything.
And you're right about the perspective issues, I'll get to try and fix them right away.
Mainly that is because of my bad habit of flipping tiles when making symmetrical levels.

DarkSonic Sep 2, 2008 12:46 PM

I started my DOM level too, and here is a screenshot of it:

I won't reveal too much, not before it's finished (which can take a while even with DSpeed)

Mine's already almost finished ;P.
Just needs ammo and more eyecandy (and those perspective issues mentioned above have to be done).
Anyways, another very nice looking level. It seems 2008 IS the year for good levels ;D.

EvilMike Sep 2, 2008 11:54 PM

Ep5 is still along way off but I'm making good progress on it. This here is the main "hub" level of the episode, and the biggest level in the episode. It will probably wind up being somewhere around the same size as deserto orbital base, but split up into smaller semgents (like the temple from ep1).

Obviously the setting here is a castle on Nippius, but the levels branching off from here will actually be wildly different settings... which means I can finally go all-out and use the ideas I have that wouldn't have been fit in previous eps. I'm enjoing making this one a lot more than the previous two.

Raven aka StL Sep 3, 2008 01:55 AM

Best 'two pics in a row' so far.
Hella interesting and nice detail.

Nice, though I just #^!^!#^! that tileset. ;(

Raven aka StL Sep 3, 2008 11:35 PM

It's a marvelous tileset when used well.

I don't think I wanted to hear your opinion at this thread. Its about levels, not tilesets. Why not make a poll about it again?

Stijn Sep 4, 2008 09:45 AM

The implication St. Louis obviously aims to make is that in the screenshot he is refering to, the tileset is not used well. However this is mainly annoying and we'd prefer him to use clear language instead.

I'd personally prefer him to just go away, it's not like he contributes anything to discussion.

Puffie40 Sep 4, 2008 09:17 PM

I sense a flamewar coming on...

It's mutated into a showcase thread. I displayed a tileset I was working on, didn't I?

Ragnarok! Sep 5, 2008 02:55 PM

In fact, I want this to all stop. St. Louis actually did nothing wrong this time. This is just rediculous. I know what Veg may have said may not be rude, but at the same time it was very provokative. In fact, if he said it to me, I would have been offended. St. Louis did not imply anything, he just said it's a nice tileset, countering what you were saying about hating the tileset.

This thread is just about showing some levels. It doesn't even say "let's criticize", but we tend to do that because we're innately helpful/rude asswipes. So please, just do us all a favour and watch your language.

Please note: I am not directing this at Vegito, it's just a quote that I thought needed mentioning as it fit my example.
