Ragnarok! Sep 4, 2008 01:02 AM

;o. Poor Wadlcury, I'm sure they're working on it when they have time. )=.

Plus, they said they'll take a while. D; Give them that while.

master sven Sep 28, 2008 08:20 AM

Allmost a month later: What a while...

Ragnarok! Sep 28, 2008 08:25 AM

=P I'm sure the wait is worth it D:

Falcury Sep 29, 2008 01:50 PM

I sure hope and believe it will be.

Work progresses slowly, you know how it goes... But you know, we want to hit that 1.0.... Meanwhile, have a look round the website. I'm trying to make a post there every other week or so and there is also a minor new feature in the Userpanel.

Nonomu198 Nov 16, 2008 12:04 PM

Is this still alive? I hope so. It was nice while it lasted.

Jerrythabest Nov 17, 2008 02:36 PM

Integration into Jazz2+ will definitely keep it active.

wadledee Nov 17, 2008 02:57 PM

Even while we haven't posted much info lately, I can ensure you, we're working hard on it to get you something nice to play in december. I hope we can host a greatly improved Karrot Shire in the Christmas holidays, with again, tons of new things to do.

~~~
In the meantime, I've been rounding up the level design with some new area's, houses refurbished and secret places added.
Falcury has been pushing on the utility, implementing more quests, an ingame CTF room and even more!
~~~

Yes, it takes a while, but hey. I'm telling you: it's worth waiting for ;-)

Nonomu198 Nov 18, 2008 07:30 AM

Great to know.

master sven Dec 29, 2008 01:17 AM

You guys still've got the second half of the holidays!....

Falcury Dec 30, 2008 07:07 AM

Hey, thanks for reminding us! :P

Yes, I am coding at the moment, though I think Carrotpie is overestimating my work a little. There's a very nasty CTF bug I can't seem to work out (namely, switching in-game to ctf mode causes that none of the players will detect that you possess the flag, except yourself).

The december deadline is a little optimistic as well, because KS is unplayable at the moment. This is because I have been getting a little ambitious, wanting to throw out the whole online account mess. Therefore I am stuck in conversion stuff etc. I am pleased to say, however, that the game is still coming along very nicely. It is starting to look more like a Jazz2 RPG engine than a hard-coded game now. Maybe it'll be just that in the end, who knows.

Some news on the "New Features" front. No Internet connection required anymore (offline save game based). Numerous UI fixes. New Ranking system that will hopefully be very rewarding. Trophies/Achievements. Beside all the other stuff in version 1.0.

I could try to push out a "beta" version for people to play with, when I can manage it. Go easy on us though. I have a medicine study to worry about ;)

Vegito Dec 30, 2008 02:25 PM

We might even have a nice game at December 2009!

master sven Feb 24, 2009 05:11 AM

2009, indeed...
Too bad that the game still isn't playable because due to many improvements in the utilities one could be able to host it 24/7 completely secure. Maybe because you guys never actually play JJ2 online that you haven't noticed.

Vegito Feb 24, 2009 05:44 AM

Thats another 2 months..

wadledee Mar 19, 2009 06:07 AM

Yes yes, another three months now :P

You know what, I'll have a chat with Falcury. Maybe we can do another round in a few days, seeing all of you waiting for it, giving up hope it's still alive etc.

Falcury has added a lot quests again, and the new way of playing (offline) is working perfectly now. It might be good enough for you all to try ;-)

Oh and btw, last time we spoke about the deadline, we agreed on May this year :P So keep up the good work, Falc!

WadlCury Jun 18, 2009 10:29 AM

After a long break, we are back and on track to release a playable (albeit still unfinished) version of Karrot Shire, soon. A short reminder to ourselves on why we kept you waiting:
1. Hosting online all the time is too cumbersome, so we wanted a ‘no fuss’ offline solution. In that way, online multiplayer is purely optional.
2. There were many structural and gameplay elements of the game that we wanted changed or added, and we wanted to take our time to get those things right.
So, there you have it, that is what we did.

We are looking for beta testers at the moment. If you are willing to invest some of your time into making this project better, please email us at wadlcury at gmail dot com.

I'm also updating the opening post now.

Jerrythabest Jun 18, 2009 11:30 AM

How will multiplayer work without a server? Will the KS Utility allow you to host the KS world?

The best I could think of would be if the utility somehow checks if someone is hosting, and starts up a server itself if no-one is. Then you'll have a KS server online whenever a player wants to play KS online, without ever having it hosted centralized.

wadledee Jun 18, 2009 02:09 PM

As Falcury noted, multiplayer is purely optional now.

As soon as you start the utility, you are prompted to start playing (offline modus).

However, if you'd like to play with other people, simply set up a server like you'd do as allways, I'm sure it will be filled in a couple of minutes :P

And as far as I know it's pretty difficult to program the utility in such a way that it will check for online servers, but I'll let Falcury decide about that ;-)

Jerrythabest Jun 19, 2009 01:07 AM

Well I think you could somehow make it possible to identify the KS server on the GiP List (with a specific server name perhaps, or some weird character in the server name that JJ2 doesn't support). All the utility then has to do to check if someone's hosting is to load the GiP List and look for it.

But of course you could also do identification on a 'deeper level' (if that is easier or more secure) by requesting the game data directly from the servers on the server list just as some GiP scripts do.

DanZeal Jun 19, 2009 03:12 AM

Or.. I can host a KS server 24/7.
But not on the default port.

wadledee Jun 19, 2009 01:32 PM

By the way, I can tell you all that the game will feature my own hand-drawn art :D

If you can't wait to see all of the drawings I've made (till now), just check my DeviantArt!

Jerrythabest Jun 19, 2009 01:55 PM

Heh, that's pretty neat work :) Looks like you've been working on the thing while this thread was 'silent'.

wadledee Jun 20, 2009 09:52 AM

Did you think the project died, then? :P

Jerrythabest Jun 20, 2009 01:47 PM

Well, to be honest, yes. But I didn't bump the thread for that, you kinda get used to it after being a member of this community for a while :p

wadledee Jun 21, 2009 02:10 PM

Well, in my opinion, the whole Jazz community seems to shrink.... Too bad!

I support this idea.

wadledee Jun 22, 2009 02:09 AM

Anyway, 'till now we only have 3 betatesters for KS.

Don't you guys wanna betatest or sth? ^^

Send an email to wadlcury at gmail dot com

Ragnarok! Jun 22, 2009 07:06 AM

wheeyay we back? :O

wadledee Jun 23, 2009 04:37 AM

Yar! Quickly, send an email to wadlcury at gmail dot com , and you'll be playing the Karrot Shire : beta in a matter of seconds! :D

Honestly, the betatesters we have now, it took em 3 hours to only complete all available quests... Need something to spend time on? ^^

Falcury Jun 23, 2009 04:55 AM

What marketing...

:p

Sfaizst Jul 11, 2009 08:39 AM

Hmm, I'm interested for Beta-testing too and have a 24h/d hosted server too, that possible can play 2 instances of JJ too

TechnoPauluz Jul 11, 2009 11:47 AM

I like to test Karrot Shire to, I am always in for new idea's:)

Just send me a PM or something :rolleyes:

Falcury Jul 26, 2009 04:04 AM

We will probably be releasing and hosting tonight.

Olsen Jul 27, 2009 04:07 AM

How the flying saucers do you save? I ran around the hospital, searching through the utility like no other but found nothing... So that's 30 minutes of progress down the drain. :D

wadledee Jul 27, 2009 04:42 AM

Lol =P

You need to complete the second Storyline-quest; "Time To Heal".

After you completed that quest, simply enter the hospital and look for your Action Tab. You can save there now.

This is the part that doesn't work. My action tab is as empty as it is on open soil whenever I enter the hospital. It just won't work. :)

plunK Jul 29, 2009 08:33 AM

I was wondering if you could check to see if Super Carrot Magic quest is working. Ive spent close to 10 hours as its the only open quest i have at the moment, and i worked with a few other people on it. I have even gotten her the carrot and i believe ive got the map. I was wondering if this was a problem or just my incompetance as i am missing some crucial step.

Olsen Jul 29, 2009 08:45 AM

Great fun, this is. I could even save yesterday! I love that you can just keep on playing your own savegame offline/online. This is all just awesome. =)

wadledee Jul 29, 2009 12:28 PM

I have updated the level for Karrot Shire a bit. Here is the changelog.

The most recent Karrot Shire.j2l file can allways be found on http://sites.google.com/site/karrotshire/

edit: dang, because the level is getting too big for JJ2 to handle, the 'Freeze Enemies' in the Rabbit Cannon's wont respawn. So here is a second update.

Changelog Karrot Shire.j2l - V.1.02

Fixes

- All Rabbit Cannon's in the level now have a backup elevator next to it.

-------------------
Changelog Karrot Shire.j2l - V.1.01

ADDED

-A 3-leveled TEST-minigame can be found in the Games Hall, Carvan City.

-You can now DUEL each other in The Dome, Duox City. It has not yet been integrated in the Utility, so you'll just have to countdown yourselves.

-The last 8 secrets have been added in the level. However, you can't unlock them untill the next Karrot Shire Utility update. Still, do look for them, so you have an easier time finding them after the Utility update. One might even reveal a yet-to-release area! =o

CHANGES

-Changed the collapse-tiles in difficult-to-see tiles, which leads to a secret! Some might have met the irritating, insta-collapse tiles :S Try again now ;-)

-Some more changes around secrets

-Eyecandy changes on some places, tilebugs removed etc.

Troglobite Jul 30, 2009 06:21 PM

This is really awesome. Please get someone to host it 24/7 asap.

wadledee Jul 31, 2009 07:06 AM

You can host it yourselves remember? ;-)
