Guilty Gene (comic)
Enter the Guilty Gene website!
Guilty Gene is my first comic with serious storyline - practically jokeless. It is a tale of Jazz's clone from Twin MegaBattleShips - his birth, trial and confrontation with Jazz. His whole, short life. It shows almost everything that happened on Battleships from his point of view. The comic is quite slowly updated, but I'm trying my best to do it well and fast at the same time. It would be easier as a fanfic, but it would also lose a lot that way. I'm not a good writer, but I have some experience with comics. Enjoy, especially since there aren't many JJ fancomics. UPDATE: This is the last update of this post. Since the website is now being updated with minimal delay, you won't lose much by skipping the DA part. |
Hm, your cover image takes quite long to load. If you ever have less than 256 colors, save as a copy as a gif file with nearest color matching; it'll decrease the size a lot.
|
The problem is I'm not sure if used more than 255 colors or not. I also wanted to make JPEG, but it turned out to be HEAVIER than PNG (it was 127 KB).
|
I think that one actually uses more than 1000 colors (mainly because of antialiasing), but if any future images use very few colors, just try gif.
So, when does the comic start? |
Hm. You've quite improved, I think.
|
loads fast for me... looks good! showusmore

Next page coming on weekend!
|
The page will be delayed since I got a flu and couldn't focus while drawing... Even now I must think a lot to write this post. Gah, back to bed.
|
I make some lame piece of fanart and write "Get Well Soon" across the top in a big, annoying font, but there's nothing to fanartize yet.
|
Update - first page added.
|
Text are making me laugh. Besides that, it = niftyniftynifty. |
woah yeah!
|
I agree; very dramatic start. I do suggest, though, that you try to do the text and borders digitally (even if you don't have fancy software, things like Powerpoint can do really nice text boxes and whatnot =P). My comic improved a lot when I stopped hand drawing the text boxes and borders.
Oh, and think you forgot his ears. Or maybe I just can't see them. |

Now I just realised something... isn't this rabbit that grey Jazz clone from JJ1?
|
Wasn't that guy large, gray, and a robot?
|
This is large and gray. And I doubt JJ1 one was a robot.
|
Ooooh, you mean the COVER. Well, that's a possibility. It's got gray fur, red eyes (though a different style of red), a yellow headband and blue armbands, just like the one from JJ1.
Not a robot? It would have to have been blind if it wasn't a robot. |
Que Passa!!!!
Beyond cool!!!! |
Yes, this is him. I'm about to take a deep look into his trial to become game's hardest boss (at least by my own way).
|
Teh one in lab
|
I guess we can theoretically start referring to that boss as "Gene" now, right?
("OMG! I defeated Gene!" ...sorta doesn't have as much of an impact to it.) |

I thought of Tyf.
|
You really thought I would call him Gene? More to come, more to answer, hehe.
|
Like Devil Dash's story.
I think that this Guilty Gene is actually some gene of evilness that went into rabbit's body. |
Evil isn't "guilty". |

*cough*Guilty Gear*cough*

Rabbit went mad, and gene is guilty for that.
GET IT/////????????? |
Quite.
|
Tyf? I wish I understood what was going on.
|
I have just started the 2nd page. Now I have a new Conté pencil, so I can seriously get to drawing.
|
Yay! Page 2 is finally done. With the new computer I also got some good programs, including new Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro! Now I can use some good effects. You can already see that on page 2. I think I will fix page 1 also so it looks as good as page 2... Maybe there is something I can do with the cover, too.
|
Ha, Devan's expression in the last panel is great. Actually, Devan is great in general.
|
Pwnt. Really. Ownage page. Moo. I am hooked.
Devan looks quite nerdy. ;) |
Very nice; comicing is quite hard. Lemme suggest a few things, though:
-Try scanning and coloring the comic at a larger size, then shrink it down before releasing it. This will usually anti-alias the lines (sometimes called "smart size"), making them look softer. -Try adding text digitally. Your handwriting isn't bad, but computer text just looks a bit better. Look at an example I made a while back with my comic that so totally isn't dead yet. |
My sucky WinME doesn't allow smaller font than 8 and I can't fit that into speech bubbles.
As for the page size... I don't know. I can blur the image a bit. I draw on A5, because I seem to lose proportions when the drawing is quite big. |
