JJ2 Death Clock

Here's a really stupid topic, that I just thought of now...when do you think JJ2 will finally die?

Eh, since I have no clue at all, I'll give it 5 years from now. That being 2009.

No one get offended, that I want the game to die or anything, this is just a silly topic, anyway I know the list servers are owned now, but do you think the owner will give it up and let the game die?

Trafton Jul 26, 2004 08:06 PM

There's really no way to know, or estimate. Of course, it's going to happen eventually - computers will die eventually, obviously.

Tubz Jul 26, 2004 08:12 PM

^^^

Umm, and you think in 2006, that computers will die? Well anyway, if that even happens, that's not the point. When will the game die, hehe...

If computers die, I don't count that as a reason for JJ2 dying, since it was a computer malfunction, not a community abandon, or no care for the game anymore type reason.

blurredd Jul 26, 2004 08:32 PM

My guess is Nimrod will probably get tired of maintaining the nimrod-online serverlist in 4 years at the most. Contrabandent will probably be offline in 5 years or so, or at least just not as stable. I wouldn't be surprised if in several years someone comes out of nowhere with a brand new serverlist for this game. I doubt JJ2 will die within in the next 5 years since new players are still coming to this game for one reason or another. Go figure.

FireSworD Jul 26, 2004 08:34 PM

Dying soon? hahaha, actually this game might not be as active as I heard it was back in early '98 - '99, but aspects like JDC are becoming more popular with each season and new players are still coming. Even if no new players arrive, I think it would still take at least 3 years for the games' community as a whole to lose intrest in the game.

YEAH, HE IS RIGHT!!!!111oneoneleven

Stijn Jul 26, 2004 11:43 PM

I became so sick ofpeople posting the same poll every year that I voted Never. THIS POLL HAS BEEN POSTED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE AND YOU SHOULD REALIZE THAT!

$tilettø Jul 27, 2004 12:03 AM

define "" die ""

ShadowGPW Jul 27, 2004 12:55 AM

jj2 dies of bleeding, not a big blow. The scene just gets smaller and smaller..

Enigma Jul 27, 2004 01:17 AM

Never, for the same reasons Flash mentioned. We seem to be active enough to post new topics about jj2's death every few months, so that sort of counts as being alive.

Doubble Dutch Jul 27, 2004 02:46 AM

Well, according to the death clock itself and given JJ2 stats, it will die on july the 19th 2089.

RockyR Jul 27, 2004 06:30 AM

i don't know
The longevity has been really well maintained to this point.
I think a key was that nothing ever replaced Jazz2,
such as, Jazz3. So we have to stick around, and we also don't mind.
It is an easy game to keep playing.
Really very much so.

Nimrod Jul 27, 2004 06:39 AM

Nimrod may get bored of Administrating the List Server.

But now remote administration can be down externally from Digiex, other people can just take over my job.

And as long as digiex continues to get paying customers for server hosting, and continues to stay alive, ill keep the List Server up.

blurredd Jul 27, 2004 08:19 AM

I probably should've kept in my post "unless others take nimrod-online over" but whatever.

FireSworD Jul 27, 2004 03:49 PM

I'm waiting for Haze to explain why he thinks this game dies in 2004.

Stillmatic, I meant that when do you think this game will die. Meaning, when list servers will finally be kept up by people. No more list servers. Not at all do I mean, the community, just the game.

blurredd Jul 27, 2004 05:16 PM

That is a semi-vague definition. What if the list servers somehow last forever or even without anyone maintaining them?

You dream too much.

Well anyway BlurredD, so you don't have to reply to this again. If that did happen, were ignoring the fact that that can happen. And just assuming a normal list server death.

blurredd Jul 27, 2004 05:25 PM

Perhaps, but that doesn't mean it's not possible for the list servers to last longer than 10 years w/o any maintenance.

Nimrod Jul 27, 2004 06:38 PM

Nebula has created a list server application, even if both Contranbandent and myself, and monolith and link all went, other people could take over and become list servers..

Tik Jul 27, 2004 06:51 PM

JJ2 will never die...in our hearts. ;------;

Actually probably once we are all middle aged and/or dead.

Monolith Jul 27, 2004 06:51 PM

I was told this game died a few years ago. I thought maybe it was in it's afterlife now, or something...

Lol, yes! It's in the afterlife, so JJ2 will last for eternity!!!

VashTheStampede Jul 27, 2004 07:34 PM

*cough* list server crash of 2000 that caused half of the players to leave (including me, yet i came back after 2 years)*cough*

Tubz Jul 27, 2004 09:09 PM

^^^

Woot! That had to be the most controversal event in JJ2 history! Yeah, well I started playing JJ2 again like 2 weeks later or something after that crash.

Doubble Dutch Jul 28, 2004 03:14 AM

It was indeed a dark day. Still, you've got to wonder, is JJ1 dead, or is there some pathetic community out there somewhere with less than a dozen members. Maybe they're discussing when JJ1 will die...

*dreams*

blurredd Jul 28, 2004 05:10 AM

I would doubt that since JJ1 wasn't a multiplayer game and you couldn't make new levels with it. Enjoy your dream.

Sometimes I wonder if there's a whole other internet that we don't know about. And someday, someone will unite the two and there will be great hacker wars.

Stijn Jul 28, 2004 06:27 AM

GREAT HACKER WARS!

Blackraptor Jul 28, 2004 11:34 AM

That would probably lead to great chaos and eventually the destruction of the internets. You're making life seem too much like a crappy RPG.

Fawriel Jul 28, 2004 11:48 AM

Sig.

FQuist Jul 28, 2004 01:46 PM

I believe JJ2 won't die this year yet, or even next year. Surely not the community. Maybe until 2008, hopefully later.

I do wonder about people saying 'never'. Never say never. Never includes loots of decades, centuries and millenia.

Doubble Dutch Jul 29, 2004 02:10 AM

In which case we must be quantitative. Never henceforth is the amount of time for a politician to do something useful, or the sun to turn into a cold dead ball of soot, whichever comes first.

SkulL Aug 11, 2004 07:07 AM

JJ2 FOR PROS

Slaz Aug 12, 2004 06:44 AM

I don't think this game will die, i think the level creation will stay alive longer then the serverlists.

Maybe he thinks that in this year will come End of the World :o Armageddon *booo*

I don’t give JJ2 more than 3-4 years. I think it is optimistic vision. JJ2 will die, when J2o will die =P Epic doesn’t care about this game. It hastens end of jj2….
If we want to extend jj2`s live, we need more JDC Seasions in year, also we should start JJ2 Ladder on ClanBase. Only if still new people will be starting playing JJ2, the game will be alive. So, some people should stop frighten newbies ;p

I agree with you. Maybe some people will play for example in 2010 year SP, but it will be only a few people from all world...

CelL Aug 15, 2004 12:48 AM

I'm missing the I don't know option.

cooba Aug 15, 2004 01:14 AM

I second Cell.

Doubble Dutch Aug 15, 2004 04:41 AM

Make an (un)educated guess.

!Tman! Sep 1, 2004 05:28 PM

I dont know.. I came back this year and I still saw people on.. It was kinda scary
