DEAR NEW MEMBERS OF THE JCF:

WE DO NOT HAVE THE SOURCE CODE TO JJ2
WE CANNOT ADD NEW CHARACTERS, ENEMIES, BOSSES, OR SOUNDS TO THE GAME

That is all.

PhAyzoN Jan 16, 2006 04:45 PM

This needs to be stickied and announced.

MSB3000 Jan 16, 2006 04:53 PM

I second that.

UNKNOWNFILE Jan 16, 2006 05:03 PM

Third'd!

NovaStar Jan 16, 2006 05:12 PM

Fourthed? Yeah, fourthed!

Hey, I brang this up by asking to add it to the wiki and/or FAQ, didn't I?

Black Ninja Jan 16, 2006 05:21 PM

This is so true, but I find it ironic it was posted by a user named 'n00b.' No offense, of course. ;p

None taken, I was actually thinking that myself.

Violet CLM Jan 16, 2006 05:32 PM

..sounds? Did that actually come up?

Black Ninja Jan 16, 2006 05:34 PM

I think it did at one point, yes.

n00b Jan 16, 2006 05:35 PM

I doubt it, but I added it just in case.

Black Ninja Jan 16, 2006 05:41 PM

I seem to recall someone asking if they could add their own explosion sound or some such thing. Now I'll have to spend a long time searching for it.

Doubble Dutch Jan 16, 2006 10:57 PM

I'm working on a source code FAQ..

Birdie Jan 17, 2006 07:19 AM

thanks for posting this n00b
also 13'd

UNKNOWNFILE Jan 17, 2006 07:28 AM

For the 1000000th time nobody will give us the source code. Doing so would be illegal.

Xobim Jan 17, 2006 07:37 AM

The most normal reason to all those sourcecode questions has to do with the Openjazz sourcecode being released...

Nonsense. The entire source code discussion is about retreiving the legal rights. I've not seen mentions of 'stealing' the source code, and that is not what people talk about when they talk about retreiving the source.

White Rabbit Jan 17, 2006 08:10 AM

This information is easy enough to be simply added to the JJ2 FAQ, which is already stickied. Make it more clear that we do not have the source code rather than just saying 'We need the source code to create 1.25'.

UNKNOWNFILE Jan 17, 2006 09:22 AM

Source code release = more exploits created. ;o

CrimiClown Jan 17, 2006 09:55 AM

"Down with source code threads!" :derby:

White Rabbit Jan 18, 2006 04:48 AM

Crimi, that puts Derby in a bad light as someone who opposes source code discussion, the very thing the community needs.

CrimiClown Jan 18, 2006 06:19 AM

Well, that's certainly not what I meant.

:derby: "UNKNOWNFILE, you rock."

Better? =D

Sonyk Jan 18, 2006 06:30 AM

No.

Why is Derby an evil... thing anyway? He protects the forum from the evils of spammers and flamers and acronyms with bad words in them.

I thought that way when I wrote the first BrainFart comics. I have learned since then, but as I set a character, I had to make him change. That's why Derby is now a nice, happy hippo in the BrainFart comics.

Sonyk Jan 18, 2006 06:41 AM

That's reason enough not to support that comic.

And to plug in #jcstalk. #jcstalk on Quakenet.org. The one stop spot for advice and information about JCS and how to create your own tile enemies and or bosses. Remember, #jcstalk. If you can't get help there, you're hated among the superiors of the community, and never will.

Fawriel Jan 18, 2006 06:43 AM

Who is this JC and why are you stalking him?

Jerrythabest Jan 18, 2006 12:44 PM

HAHA MEGA-LOL!:D I think you know it isnt JC and it isnt Stalk, but JCS and talk:P:+

He has a certain reputation. Usually all I see of him is his tracks from modding posts. Rarely do we see an actual post from him.

To be fair, he does do a good job at keeping the forums in line.

MoonBlazE Jan 19, 2006 02:09 AM

Why don't we just buy the source code. For a reasonable amount they'd probably give it off. If people were willing to donate and we could agree something with them, it should be possible to obtain it legally, and JJ2 would come to live again.

This is a rabbit game, not the NSA's cryptography analysis engine.

Besides, we already have exploits. More exploits would just render different ways to do the same thing. The benefits far outweigh the downsides.

If I remember correctly, an Astounding 0 people donated to the Lori Central fund, and that was only thrity bucks. Therefore the prediction of people willing to donate comes to about 2 people donating a maximum of ten bucks each(These are numbers I pulled out of thin air though, so its more of a guess than a prediction)
Plus, theres also the problem that right now Epic has no idea where it is. it could be on a few dusty floppies somewhere hidden in the janitorial closet, no one knows.

Unpossible.

Jerrythabest Jan 20, 2006 02:14 AM

unpossible impossible
well, I have read somewhere here that Orange Games (or whatever it is called now) has it.

UNKNOWNFILE Jan 20, 2006 07:45 AM

Let's try to bug Burger, he worked on the JJ2 port for Mac OS 7, so he must have the source code.
