JCS Collaboration Competition

Somehow, the idea of just a new contest didn't exactly sound too encouraging, so I may as well announce my plans right now.. who knows, maybe people will want to partake in something new?

:D JCS Collaboration Competition :D

(now no one saw this coming did you?) That's right, a contest not made for individual level designers. There hasn't been exactly a flood of collaboratively made levels (I recall seeing as many as two, at all), which is a pity because collabs sound like a bucket of fun to make, and they're interesting from an analyser point of view, too. Plus, more collabs in general is always a nice thing.

Anyway, without further addendum:

Rules:

#1

If I find your entry to be abusive in one way or another, it's going to be denied.

Participation

¬ You have to announce it in this thread if you're going to enter this contest. You also need to name the other person you'll be collaborating with (from here on called "partner"). Your partner has to confirm the announcement by posting in this thread.
¬ Your partner has to be a recognisable community member. That means you can't make a collaboration with someone who's not been around the community before this contest started.
¬ You may work only with one partner. If you or your partner resigns in the middle of the contest, you can find a new partner, or finish the level yourself (only if the partner has already done work on the level)

Submissions (3 entries total)

¬ You may only submit JJ2 (version higher than 1.20) levels to this competition. TSF levels are allowed, but discouraged.
¬ You may not submit collaborations created prior to this contest.
¬ You can submit only one level. (I can make an exception in case it's an advanced team based level, such as Assault or Bank Robbery)
¬ The entry you're submitting has to consist of the level, the tileset, and the music file.
¬ January 15th 2008 is the last day you can send me entries.

Design

¬ Your level has to be started completely from scratch.
¬ There are no restrictions on the level's gametype, size or used tileset, as long as the tileset palette does not hurt eyes.
¬ If the entry completely sucks (which I hope isn't likely) it won't be accepted.

Other stuff:

Judging

Haven't decided yet! Will keep you updated on this one.

Prize

The authors of the winning entry will get to have their names in a brand new tileset! The winners have to decide on a theme of the tileset together. If they don't come to a consensus, or if the theme they choose is inappropiate, I'll just randomly pick a theme myself. The winning couple will have their names written in the tileset in some form or other (I promise it'll be something better than a mere mask message, though).

Advice

I have one thing to say here: improvise. Do not plan a layout ahead of making the level, it will spoil the entire fun. (Believe me, I've tried it before)

Participants:

Currently partnerless (2)

¬ OLsen
¬ Eigus

Confirmed pairs (7)

¬ Darksonic & Vivando
¬ FireSworD & Snooze
¬ Chiyu & Quickz
¬ Hitch & Ragnarok
¬ n00b & Novastar
¬ Birdie & St. Louis
¬ Black Ninja & Sonyk L. Jackle Esq.

And now, get to work!!!!

Dermo Nov 23, 2007 01:43 PM

(I find this a bad idea)

The hell kind of prize is that?

Stijn: PA removed

Violet CLM Nov 23, 2007 02:03 PM

Virtual Headache, Muddy Apocalypse, Frowning Statues, Angelic Warfare, Dark Dimensions, Rather Useless CTF...

Nice idea, though. Let's see whether I can interest Niels in making a comeback ;)

That would be great.. I'd like to see unusual collaborations in this contest like the Sacrush/FS collaboration that was planned. There were more collaborations, but those are not as popular as the levels you mentioned(like Caves of the Arabic Ninja by Rag and me) Anyway, great contest, and I hope I will find the time to make a level with someone else.

Birdie Nov 23, 2007 04:08 PM

k, who is my partner? <3

FreeFull Nov 24, 2007 12:52 AM

If everyone would think so then you wouldn't get any levels and get bored with JJ2 and leave.

FireSworD Nov 24, 2007 06:06 AM

Snooze and I were trying to set up a collaboration (we would make the level for this contest) but I don't like the changelog, so we are out of this one.

cooba Nov 24, 2007 07:44 AM

After getting a few more complaints, I removed the changelog rule. Have fun.

Eigus Nov 24, 2007 08:43 AM

If I had a partner...

Actually, this sounds like fun. ;)

but i don't have a partner. yet. ;p

FQuist Nov 24, 2007 11:02 AM

Anyone I see trolling, flaming or spamming after this gets a full warning instantly. Better stop it.

Superjazz Nov 24, 2007 11:05 AM

I am in with DS.

DarkSonic Nov 24, 2007 11:09 AM

Confirmed.

The game mode will be Battle. No other information to give yet as we haven't started yet.

Eigus Nov 24, 2007 12:35 PM

Birdie Nov 24, 2007 12:36 PM

The birdie still lacks a partner.

P¼ul Nov 24, 2007 12:37 PM

Birdie Nov 24, 2007 02:40 PM

NovaStar Nov 24, 2007 05:04 PM

If I jump in quickly can I steal that spot? <3

FireSworD Nov 24, 2007 07:19 PM

Snooze and I are in. :)

cooba Nov 25, 2007 03:23 AM

Just a reminder: when signing up, your partner(s) have to confirm your post.

Sacrush Nov 25, 2007 03:41 AM

Sounds nice but I first need to find a good partner, any volunteers?

Nielsje Nov 25, 2007 04:00 AM

Well well, as Stijn tipped me about this contest I think I might give it a try. My schedule for the coming month gives me some free time, so I suppose it's possible that I'll test my skills once again ;)

Vegito Nov 25, 2007 05:38 AM

Actually hell I like this.
I've never liked making levels as in eyecandy and such myself though I do like other (more advanced stuff) as in sucker tubes/triggers/blablabla/making sure the level is without bugs/flow. Actually its just the eyecandy which I hate making. \o/

Would anyone want to give it a try with me? =P (lol)

DoubleGJ Nov 25, 2007 07:42 AM

I could work with somebody because this sounds like a very interesting contest, but I'm no good at making multiplayer levels and I have a feeling it will be hard to find somebody willing to cooperate on a singleplayer one...

Yasco Nov 25, 2007 08:37 AM

I sign in with Vegito, I guess he'll confirm soon.

Ragnarok! Nov 25, 2007 09:35 AM

I would participate, if I can find a partner. ;o.
Anyone? ;(

Violet CLM Nov 25, 2007 10:02 AM

Hmm... what are the rules regarding releasing contest entries? If something is submitted, does it become public, or would one (two) be able to keep it around and add other stuff to it later before releasing it to anyone besides the judge's eyes?

cooba Nov 25, 2007 10:10 AM

The non-public entires become public as soon as the content results are announced. I hope it's not a big problem.

I really want to make a single player level so maybe we can team up?
