I remember a link to a copy you could buy, but Violet deleted that from his sig.

...and, you better don't ask to get it for free here.

butthead Jan 15, 2005 12:34 PM

i dont mind paying but i dont know where 2 buy it from

Violet CLM Jan 15, 2005 04:55 PM

Try one of these:
Listing 1
Listing 2
Listing 3
I'm not familiar enough with the language to be sure that these are all valid, but you should probably be able to get TSF somehow.

Derby: URL removal. Do not post links to website that allow people to illegally acquire content. This has resulted in a full warning. Three are normally needed for a temporary ban.

Violet CLM Jan 19, 2005 01:22 AM

Yes, it is.

Radium Jan 19, 2005 12:17 PM

Derby: Content removal. The content alluded to previously removed content and was thus removed.

Does Haze Site still have it. I remeber that site use to sell it

Laggy Gangsta Jan 20, 2005 11:36 PM

It's NOT illegal. JJ2 - The Secret Files has been discontinued.

cooba Jan 21, 2005 01:33 AM

It's still being sold so no.

JelZe GoldRabbit Jan 21, 2005 03:50 AM

Ok, a little clarification here: Technically, every piece of software is *illegal* to distribute other than by the manufacturer, unless the manufacturer has given permission for copying and distribution. Sounds hard no? Then let me give some examples of when it's perfectly legal:

- Demos and shareware versions are perfectly legal to copy, not because they're "stripped down" versions of the full game, but because these versions use the "Try Before You Buy" principle. Consider them free samples you see in the supermarket every once in a while :p
- Freeware games. Only the manufacturer can declare a game freeware, nobody else. One Must Fall 2097 has been declared freeware (almost 5 years ago, yet it's still being sold on Epic Classics, how odd), but not any of the full Jazz Jackrabbit games. Just because a game is "discontinued" doesn't mean it's freeware, it has to be declared freeware by Epic Games first. And we know that will never happen ;)

That's the basic rundown. By the way, why is this in the "Future of Jazz" forum? Shouldn't it have been moved by now, especially after a visit from Derby?

1 full warning? Kinda harsh for a new member don't you think? Especially since we don't have forum rules yet.

Laggy Gangsta Jan 21, 2005 10:57 PM

Oops.

Sorry about that. The site I got it from told me it was legal. Hmmm...

JelZe GoldRabbit Jan 22, 2005 06:15 AM

Actually, distributing old DOS games like that *snaps fingers* doesn't have that many consequences for the companies, other than annihilating a possible re-release of the games (yeah, like that will ever happen for the PC platform  ) Still, by law it's not allowed unless the producers have declared it freeware, no matter what others say...

HH98 and CC99 keep being rereleased every now and then.

aokmaniac13 Jan 26, 2005 08:10 AM

Hmm, looks like (it) is in trouble.

If distributing Jazz:TSF for free is still illegal, then someone needs to drop them a line.
(I won't post a link)

Derby: Content clearance. Avoid referring to sites that permit the acquisition of grey-area content.

THEY ARE?! HOLY CRAPS *runs off and opens GetRight*

Derby: Previous quotation edit.

Stijn Jan 26, 2005 10:42 AM

I think (it) knows perfectly that they're doing grey-area illegal stuff (please no debate about whether it's grey-area now).

Derby: Content replacement. Avoid referring to sites that permit the acquisition of grey-area content.

Wrong, they know what their doing. Besides, you can't download every old skool game for free, some are being denied because of the copyright companies, others you have to buy. And besides the fan games are totally legal.

Derby: Previous quotation clearance.

Slaz Feb 6, 2005 06:08 AM

Personally, i think TSF is ilegal to get free, Christmas Chronicles is shareware...

Aiko Feb 16, 2005 05:39 PM

Jeez, thats boring!! Still the same old questions? I admire Oldbie Jelze's tries to make it clear for the 1000th time, though :-)

JelZe GoldRabbit Feb 17, 2005 03:44 AM

Way to go Aiko for bumping this topic  O, and welcome back :)
