Speedrun?

Has anyone ever attempted a speedrun for the Jazz games? Jazz 2 (except SF, of course) should be relatively easy to do, and it would be an interesting question whether you'd save more time with Spaz's specials or Jazz's powered-up blaster.

Violet CLM Feb 1, 2005 01:49 PM

Jazz does not have a powered up blaster. Your blaster will always do one damage until you get the blaster powerup, which can only be found in the first Diamondus level.
...in JJ2!!!

BlazinDragon Feb 1, 2005 03:20 PM

where is it? i cant find it ;p (using jcs94)

Newspaz Feb 1, 2005 05:03 PM

I attempted a speedrun with Spaz in medium mode and I finished in

0:46:37.04

I think that if you use Jazz it'll most likely take you a lot longer. 45 minutes probably is quick, but I bet it could be done faster.

DoubleGJ Feb 2, 2005 08:08 AM

46 minutes? Boy, seems like even less than the Metroid GBA games.

indeed

That's the idea. The blaster powerup saves a lot of time later on in the game - faster boss kills to make up for Spaz's slidekick glitch, easy kills of ghosts/skeletons, etc. The more I play, though, the more I'm convinced that double jump saves so much more time that Jazz doesn't stand a chance.

Newspaz Feb 2, 2005 05:56 PM

Err, Robyrt. I think Spaz can reach the powerupped blaster just as well as Jazz can.

To make things clear, both the characters have two special moves:
Jazz: Helicopter ears, Uppercut
Spaz: Double jump, Karate kick

I agree with you though. I don't think either that Jazz stands a chance.
Anyone up for doing a Jazz speedrun? It doesn't have to be perfect, I died about four times in mine.

Hey, I attempted a little speedrun with spaz some years ago. Took about 30-40 mins. I'd like to do another one, and record it.

Lem_Gambino Feb 7, 2005 10:02 AM

There should be a program that puts a timer in the game.

Or I can just use a stopwatch. =P

cyn0 Feb 7, 2005 11:59 AM

A program? Oh ok, well I use my cellphones stopwatch.

I got a time of about 43 mins earlier today when I tried it again. Spaz - medium diff.

Violet CLM Feb 7, 2005 01:02 PM

I seem to recall Jazz does have a built in timer, but it's not used for anything.

And of course either character can get the blaster powerup! Either use the frozen spring or drop down the pit, if I remember correctly.

Pit? I don't recall a pit...

I tried doing a variation of the Speedrun, a Scorerun, by trying to get as many points in as little time as possible. I used Blade's "The Episode" for this, but I got flustered and gave up. =P

Maybe we can do Speedruns of custom levels, too.

Lem_Gambino Feb 8, 2005 05:57 PM

I just did a run of TSF, and clocked in 21 min 13.80 seconds. Disappointing, if you ask me. =P

Unhit Feb 8, 2005 10:47 PM

Something around 45 minutes for TSF and JJ2 on hard, but the score was terribly low :p
GVD that was long ago 8[

LittleFreak Feb 9, 2005 01:54 AM

OK, guys. Who's gonna do a speedrun for Tomb Rabbit? :D

EDIT:

I made a speedrun for 1.23 using Jazz. I played from 12:45 to 13:30 = 45 minutes - 3 minutes phoning = 42 minutes.

"Speedrun diary" will probably come soon. ;)

White Rabbit Feb 10, 2005 12:21 PM

I estimate my fastest speed run for Tomb Rabbit to be between 2 - 2.30 hours. :D I'm not attempting to do a real speed run for Tomb Rabbit because...oh sry, I can't type anymore..I accidentally walked into a gazillion spike and now I'm dead because somebody told me to do a speedrun for TR. :p

lol. Curious to see someone tried. xD

Robyrt Feb 10, 2005 03:10 PM

Yeah, my bad. Spaz can backtrack to Jazz's part of the level and grab the blaster powerup (although if he doesn't have flame ammo, it might cost him more time than it saves). Did those of you who actually completed speedruns do this? My time is around 45 minutes at the moment for JJ2 Spaz hard - on medium, I keep crashing because I enter the first boss with sugar rush and shield on.

Violet CLM Feb 10, 2005 04:57 PM

You crash? That's weird. I know the sugar rush just turns off...

LittleFreak Feb 11, 2005 01:55 AM

I didn't do a speedrun with Spaz so far, but I would say it costs more time than it actually gives him.

A question, in the second diamondus level, did you grab the fire shield?

I didn't, because I had already lost too much time in the previous level.
