the JCS tournament

lets make a tournament!

everybody will build up a level in which world he wants, the best level will win
upload your level and give us a link for the level download

at the end we will do a and anyone will do a poll, vote for their favorite level
i will make a level too

rules:
1. the level should be ready untul monday!!!
2. the prize- the winners name will be written on the front of the page, and he will recieve a signiture from me (I am good in photoshop) and it will have the writing: I am the winner in the JCS compatision"

Edit:
Just fixed some errors. Actually, they're 3 days, Chip. But that's off-topic. I think it's ridiculous to create a level in 3 days. It would be an un-betatested level.

The Levels:
....

The Jcsingboys (The Name :-) ):
R3ptile
Unknown Rabbit
Olsen
DarkSonic
LittleFreak

R3ptile Feb 7, 2005 11:56 AM

It's called "contest", not "tournament".

Jazz_jcs Feb 7, 2005 12:03 PM

Sorry

R3ptile Feb 7, 2005 12:05 PM

Anyway, you can't make ANY level that you want since it must include enemies.

Okay, it may include enemies, if thats what you want.
would you join?

Nielsje Feb 7, 2005 12:49 PM

There aren't any clear rules, no prizes, and the deadline is in TWO DAYS. I won't expect much that way.

Question: Does the level have to be a JJ2 level? Could it be JJ1, or Battery Check?
Question: What counts as an enemy? Is Caterpillar an enemy?

Jazz_jcs Feb 8, 2005 04:39 AM

ok guys... there are new rules to the compatision:

1. the level should be ready untul monday!!!
2. the prize- the winners name will be written on the front of the page, and he will recieve a signiture from me (I am good in photoshop) and it will have the writing: I am the winner in the JCS compatision"

to unknown rabbit
answer 1: yes, it can be also for JJ1
answer 2: not really, but the rukes were changed: there level doesnt have to include enemies in it

The not-include enemies rule makes me in this contest.

Yay!!! Count me in!! :D :D :D

Olsen Feb 8, 2005 08:47 AM

I may enter too! 8D

Violet CLM Feb 8, 2005 12:34 PM

Just a suggestion... competition. Not compatison.
(And not for BC then?)

R3ptile Feb 9, 2005 03:34 AM

I have another question - does it have to be a Single Player level? Oh, and when is the level due?

Olsen Feb 9, 2005 04:05 AM

I am in wohoo
time to make a level :D

Jazz_jcs Feb 9, 2005 04:52 AM

its time al right :)
r3ptile:
Doesnt have to be a single player, and the due date is until monday.

Ahh.. Ammm..
and I also wanted to say that i am making a level too :)

I don't have enough time then.

Olsen Feb 9, 2005 05:04 AM

You should extend the deadline more Jazz_jcs.

Give us like 2 weeks or something

Jazz_jcs Feb 9, 2005 05:19 AM

the due date is in 8 days.

i have go an idea!
I will give you a long time from now: until thursday. But instead of asking questiones, start working on the levels!

now listen! we need more people to compete!!! at least 5 more!
"I am competing in the JJ2 jsc
and give a link to thread"

Olsen Feb 9, 2005 05:26 AM

OK 8 days. Should be enough

White Rabbit Feb 9, 2005 12:08 PM

Afaik, it's darn hard to make a high-quality lvl for a high-quality competition like this. In the end, the contest will be won by someone who makes the least crappy lvl because singleplayer lvls do take longer than multiplayer ones. I don't want to compete because I don't want to deliberately rush and come up with something bad.

Same here.

DarkSonic Feb 10, 2005 05:33 AM

You forgot to add me in the JCSing boys. I wasn't too clear probably, but I am in.

Jazz_jcs Feb 10, 2005 06:08 AM

DarkSonic:
Sorry,edited.

White Rabbit:
you have a lot of time... we dont judge the level by its lengh' we judge it by its quality and by what is special about it.

What he wants to say is if a level should be special and have quality, you need lots of time which I agree with.

Violet CLM Feb 10, 2005 12:58 PM

I kind of disagree. It's really easy to slap stuff together. It's an actual level design that's the hard part.

Jazz_jcs Feb 11, 2005 03:50 AM

So what do you suggest? I think you better suggest some new rules.

Nothing against the rules, just some more time. A month would be long enough I think.

Violet, how long did it take you to make an FSP level? Some of them use quite advanced stuff, I don't think you figured all that stuff out in one week. ;)

Stijn Feb 11, 2005 04:15 AM

I suggest you to spell "compatision" "competition"

Jazz_jcs Feb 11, 2005 05:08 AM

i give ya\you three week's.
Okey?

DarkSonic Feb 11, 2005 05:37 AM

That's good enough. I have to make a level for another contest as well, so I have no problems with three weeks.

Feb 11, 2005 09:06 AM

I'm in

I haven't made any kind of level in JCS forever.....
but this would be fun..

I'm in..

Just a quick re-cap because I'm kind of confused.
The rules are

1) Make a level.....whatever we want? Single player or not?
2) Can it be custom tilesets or do we have to stick with the officials?
3) When is the due-date exactly and where should we send them?

n00b Feb 11, 2005 02:43 PM

The only question which I have since it wasn't fully answered:
Can we make the levels for Batterycheck?(BC)
Either way, I'm entering the contest

Point. But everything in FSP went through a number of revisions (Remember the area in Nature Castle with all the swinging vines? Originally, the spikes were also lava pits.), unlike most of what I do which is just basically build something and leave it like that. Still, much of the technical stuff was planned before the levels were built.

blurredd Feb 11, 2005 07:22 PM

What's with the fascination for making levels that everyone can't play? JJ1 levels are one thing, but Battery Check?

n00b Feb 11, 2005 08:27 PM

Download the Battery Check demo, using the demo's events and JCS 1.0, create a level and then change the filename to demo.j2l, and then run the demo. Viola, everyone-playable custom Battery Check level. Only extra thing needed would be a custom tileset/music file if used.

blurredd Feb 11, 2005 09:11 PM

I had a feeling you might say that. I'm guessing you don't realize how inconvenient all of that is. Also, allowing Battery Check levels would make the playing field more uneven than it already is. But whatever, it's not my contest. I don't have to worry about judging BC or JJ1 levels.

R3ptile Feb 11, 2005 11:41 PM

Battery Check wasn't accepted yet.

I hated that swinging vine part. >.<

Still, even if someone tries out "technical stuff" (let's just call it like that) and then makes levels he needs more time than a week. ;-)

However, the deadline has been extended to three weeks, which should be enough to make a decent level.

Sacrush Feb 25, 2005 04:11 AM

Ok how many weeks/days do I still have, if I have at least a week I might be in. ;-)
