Terminal velocity?

Does anyone know what the terminal velocity of Jazz (and Spaz and Lori) is? I've tried 60 speed suckertubes, 127 speed belts and acc belts, 127 speed wind (I couldn't use -61 or -128 because I'm lazy and didn't want to start my lvl from right to left :p). Is -127 speed belt left together with -127 speed wind left Jazz's maximum speed? Can you make him go faster? And what about his weapons? They must be going pretty quickly if you shoot them out of your gun at 125 tiles per second. :D
Does anyone know what the terminal velocity of the playable rabbits in JJ2 are? (I assume they're the same for Jazz, Spaz and Lori). You can reach pretty fast speeds with -61 speed suckertubes but I think you can reach even faster speeds using belt left/right (max speeds: -128/127), wind right/left (max speeds: -128/127) and acc belt/right (max speeds: -128/127).

What if you used poles, springs, hurt events (they bounce you off), TNTs, RFs, belts and wind together? And what about the ammo you shoot? Do they have terminal velocities as well? If they did, it would be cool to see you outstrip your RF missiles. :D I'm currently making a test track, erm, lvl to investigate but I'd like to hear some more about this from other ppl.

EDIT: Post semi-messed up by Frank. ;P

LittleFreak Mar 5, 2005 07:21 AM

Never tried that out. Interesting.

White Rabbit Mar 6, 2005 02:17 AM

Ok, I've done some more testing. You CAN outrun ALL of your ammo at that speed. Some pretty weird stuff can happen, especially in single player. :) The wind will "blow" TNTs and exploding ammo away, either to the left or to the right. Using a wind left speed of -128 and standing to the RIGHT of the wind, I found out that if you shoot something (anything apart from TNT) the bullet will travel into the wind and, when it explodes, go almost instantly back to the source (i.e. your gun). If you try with wind left speed 127, the bullet explosion will go straight to the end of the wind events (on the other side of the lvl, 250 tiles away :p). TNTs do not work in the same way. The explosion doesn't travel to the other end, the TNT does.

At slower speeds, the explosion will travel quite slowly and you can actually see it moving away. I'm still trying to figure out what kind of differences acc. belt and normal belt have.

EDIT: This sort of effect doesn't work for toasters, peppersprays or electroblasters. I think.

LittleFreak Mar 6, 2005 03:08 AM

That TNT thing is extremely useful.

You could make a puzzle where you first have to find TNT, then figure out where to lay it down so it travels to a trigger crate.

Too bad that I'm not into using JCS any more, otherwise this would've been a great puzzle. ;)

White Rabbit Mar 6, 2005 03:17 AM

Actually, the problem is...it doesn't work in singleplayer mode. Singleplayer mode puts most, if not all, events into a sort of "restart" mode whenever you go more than 20 tiles away from that event. If a turtle stands on brick A at the beginning of the lvl, it will move to brick B when you go near it. If you go far away from it, however, the turtle is re-set by JJ2 and starts off from brick A again. The only way the TNT puzzle thing can work is if the TNT and the wind event are less than 20 tiles away. If it's further than 20 tiles away, the TNT will still exist, but stay un-exploded for all etenity until you get close enough to it.

I'm making a race lvl using the super-speed tracks...I tried to clock myself and, if I do it correctly, I can travel 250 tiles in a little over 1 second. :D I'll try to trick someone into joining me online so we can crash into each other at super-fast speeds and see how much we bounce away, lol. :D

EDIT: Found out that wind right -128 with belt accR -128 works as good as wind left -128 with belt accL -128. That's the fastest speed I could attain.

LittleFreak Mar 6, 2005 04:32 AM

Well, it'd still be a cool puzzle for a cooperative level. ;)

In a level I made once I did something with suckertubes that shot me all the way to the top of the level from the bottom, even through solid tiles. I never was able to duplicate it in a different level though.

White Rabbit Mar 6, 2005 05:26 AM

You just reminded me that in my lvl, you can pass through warps. Your'e going too fast for the warp to "pick you up". Also, Link, I tried putting solid tiles into my lvl....AND IT WORKS!!!!! You're travelling so darn fast that you can pass through anything! :D

EDIT: Yep, you can pass through anything. Baddies, pick-ups, power-ups, giant boulders...not even your bullets can hit them. :D The fencer has uber-l33t reflexes though. Even at my speed, he managed to turn the right way and face me. :D

EDIT 2: At my speed, you can pass through a maximum of 4 completely solid tiles. The bullet explosions will also pass through 4 tiles (it explodes behind a tile when fired in front of it).

LittleFreak Mar 6, 2005 06:06 AM

Isn't there a way to trigger sucker tubes with a special parameter? If so this could be pretty useful.

White Rabbit Mar 6, 2005 06:24 AM

You can't even enter suckertubes by going through them at suckertube speed 60. ;P I think the number means tiles per second. So basically, I was going 256 tiles per second in my lvl. :D Now that's neat.

You can get this rocket speed effect if you place a tube with wait time at least 513 tiles down and/or 513 tiles to the right. So I guess technically that's the fastest a player can move without a warp.

White Rabbit Mar 6, 2005 10:14 AM

I did it... I think that it's faster than a warp, because a warp takes time to, well, warp you, and make the weird sound. :) The suckertube will take you all the way to the top of the lvl, directly above the suckertube, and if there is a tile at the very top, you're stuck. It also doesn't matter if it's an X-speed or a Y-speed. You will also stay rolling for a very long time. Pretty cool. :)

:p

I have a level, or maybe two, that actually RELY on going at speeds that shoot you through solid tiles.

Also, I think warping is faster if you are warped far enough.

White Rabbit May 5, 2005 07:28 AM

No, not really...there IS a maximum lvl size for JCS, and even at maximum size, that super-speed suckertube trick is way faster... there's no waiting time, you see (no warping and unwarping and no animations).

mikeejimbo May 5, 2005 01:58 PM

But my idea is theoretical anyway

Xobim May 10, 2005 07:27 AM

I think you can even go faster than the maximum sucker tube speeds.
You can alter the JCS.ini file to give more trigger or warp ID's etc.
so, you cloud also alter the maximum speed of a sucker tube.
If it is possible, you can make jazz move with light speed! 8D

White Rabbit May 10, 2005 07:29 AM

Erm...
Erm...

I'm going to have to check on that but my guess is that you can either not edit it, or edit it the way you described it, or edit it and then have JJ2 crash on you.

I can't find 'suckertube' in my JCS.ini

Except this will not work. At all costs.

Can you post a example lvl?

White Rabbit May 10, 2005 12:55 PM

Are you talking to me, Dx?
Try www.teaparty.beplaced.com/swishswosh.zip
If that doesn't work, go to www.teaparty.beplaced.com and then look for the link on the page.
