Keeping jazzjackrabbit alive

I think if we need to keep jazzjackrabbit alive then we need to keep the 1st one alive. so we need to buid more levels and the sorce code has been found hasnt it.
Also if you do biuld jazz1 levels send some screenshots here.Should we keep jazzjackrabbit 1 alive?

ThunderPX Jan 29, 2006 04:09 AM

Well guess what, there's actually a JJ1 level category on J2O.

Grytolle Jan 29, 2006 04:30 AM

Wow Thunder, what an intelligent post ^__^

NinJazz Jan 29, 2006 04:50 AM

did not jamster tell he is going to leave??

Birdie Jan 29, 2006 08:27 AM

Yes he did.

Violet CLM Jan 29, 2006 01:21 PM

...Thunder's post doesn't quite refute the arguments presented in the first post of the topic, no. Anyway.

First off, we have not found the source code. If you spend any time reading posts you'll notice that Openjazz is an original program using JJ1's data files but none of its code, as that is not available. As for making JJ1 levels, yes, that is always a good idea insofar as it goes, but unfortunately this topic is not going to provide much incentive for people to do so.

UNKNOWNFILE Jan 29, 2006 01:24 PM

By the time we get the sourcecode the community will be dead and buried.

FQuist Jan 29, 2006 01:42 PM

So, something should be done to provide more incentive to make JJ1 levels.

Speeza Feb 1, 2006 10:45 AM

We should make jazz1 animations if we have the source code

We already can I think, source code notwithstanding.

Besides; *I* have the source code, I'm just not in the mood to share it.

FQuist Feb 2, 2006 02:58 AM

Of course you have the source code. :-s I've also got it. I'm also a six feet tall bodybuilder.

Grytolle Feb 2, 2006 05:03 AM

You don't really *need* it, reverse engineering would be possible... I bet it has been done with more advanced games than Jj2.

FQuist Feb 2, 2006 05:12 AM

That would not be the game's real source, though.

CrimiClown Feb 2, 2006 05:29 AM

Anyway, however things may be, Jazz Jackrabbit will stay alive as long as people love the game.

Yeah, but I asssume that this guy would want the feature even if we don't have the real sourcecode.

UNKNOWNFILE Feb 2, 2006 08:31 AM

I have personally asked Becky not to release the source code, as if it is released, it will probably spawn an unholy army of crappy new features.

Speeza Feb 2, 2006 08:38 AM

A suggestion

You could be right, I mean we want to keep the game origanal.
People we see jazzjackrabbit different, because of all the new things on it.
If the source code was to be released, I think there should be a limit to download.
Or maybe give it to a responsable person, who is good at this sorta stuff.
They could then make animations that are good, and not bad, try stick to the origanal game as possibal.

FQuist Feb 2, 2006 08:38 AM

Like the features in some of your patches?

The source code would probably be partly maintained by the 1.25 council, not because we'd "own" it but because it's just a collected group of people. If you care to read the forum at all you'll see that your scenario is kind of unlikely. There seems to be a consensus that firstly all bugs should be squashed, and feature requests are treated sceptically.

Speeza Feb 2, 2006 08:44 AM

..leak it out? I'd expect the source to be open to everyone if it was released (legally). It would be out. So? Some people will make bizarre versions, and they will end up being unsupported, since no-one cares about them. The most reasonable implementation of the source, worked on by the smart developers, would obviously end up being the one used by most. The people who choose to install "Jazz 2 with Pokémon sprites" or "Jazz 2 with endless health" would probably be in the minority, and their games wouldn't be compatible with the majority. They would be isolated.
