What was your first tileset?

I really just wanted to make the 1000th JCF thread, but this is something fun anyway. What was the first tileset you ever made? Do you still have it? If so, show or link.

Mine was

I lost them in the file transfer to my new computer, but my first tileset was about twenty lines and an armadillo. A REALLY poorly drawn armadillo.

n00b Jun 14, 2006 03:11 PM

I no longer have it, but it had Teal blocks for land(now you may understand why I'm so fond of Teal ground), blue blocks for sky, and sprites (with the names on them) of the fur recolors my freinds and I used over splitscreen. It also had a level that was essentially had a whole bunch of these sprites all over the place, and the game was a bit like Battle meets Hide and Seek. You would try to blend in with the still sprites and hope no one notices you if you were low on health.
IMO a nice concept, but not one that is pratical for wide distribution

Strato Jun 14, 2006 03:40 PM

Radium, I used that tileset like, 5 years ago. Wow.

Birdie Jun 14, 2006 07:01 PM

I remember my first tileset, MS paint, a sidewalk and a streetlight, no background, and there was nothing under the sidewalk O.o Don't have it anymore, thank god.

MSB3000 Jun 14, 2006 07:28 PM

I'll post a picture of it later.

Fawriel Jun 15, 2006 01:21 AM

Don't remember and don't have it anymore... I remember one of my first tilesets was one that was supposed to show the insides of Spaz' body. It had teeth, one-colored red ground tiles and a more darkly colored red background tile. And tile baddies. \o/
...when I first did this tileset, I think I kept trying to find out what color makes stuff transparent ( without success... )... and I forgot to use the grid at one point and just kind of blurted stuff where it seemed to fit. *cough*

ThunderPX Jun 15, 2006 02:36 AM

A picture of Spaz and a badly drawn DJ with a turntable and a disco dance floor thing.

CrimiClown Jun 15, 2006 04:53 AM

I never made a tileset... Or... Never completed one! \o/

DoubleGJ Jun 15, 2006 05:16 AM

Presenting OINK.

EDIT: Almost forgot, this is TSF only.

NeonPSY Jun 15, 2006 08:33 AM

Mine was October.

It's accually pretty good for a first one.

n0 Jun 15, 2006 06:06 PM

Mine was a kitchen. Tile floor, sink, stove, counters, refrigerator. I had two non-working animations, one of the water turning on and off, the other of the stove turning on and off. I even had these jars that were supposed to be transparent, but the only transparent tile was the top left one. Auto Masked, of course. Awful Isometric perspective, no variation of color. I stopped once I realized that all I could do is run across the top of the tiles because of the no transparent auto mask.

Great fun, I'll see if I still have it laying around somewhere and post a picture.

Newcastle Black
I've hosted this a few times, so people may have seen it before. In any case, it would have been bigger, but I had some odd notion that tilesets had to be 100 tiles... yes, I knew there were tilesets that weren't, and I honestly have no idea what my reasoning was.

blurredd Jun 16, 2006 01:37 PM

Pretty good for a first set, Violet. It kind of reminds me of something Waz would make. Now let's go make a remake of it for LMAT.

My first set was the original version of Odyssey. I'm not posting a screenshot here, but if someone else wants to, go ahead.

I remember seeing that. I tried to find a copy of it in my cache, but all I found was a rather interesting beta version of odyssey (the new one, not the original).

An embarrassing Pokémon Rainbow tileset. :X

Me Jun 17, 2006 08:04 AM

The aptly named Water Demon's First Tileset. It's still on J2O.

This is the original version.
This is the second version, way better, but not my first.

MSB3000 Jun 26, 2006 12:24 PM

This was my first compiled tileset, aptly named "Test."

This is my first attempt at a tileset that could be used as such. I made it about three years after "Test." This one's called "Fungus Forest."

My eyes!

Prepare to be entirely amazed.

Violet CLM Jun 26, 2006 11:21 PM

I have that. :D

minmay Jun 28, 2006 08:19 AM

Haha, I remember playing a level you made with that tileset. It was funny when you hid behind the screenshot of yourself.

Snipperdepipper Jun 28, 2006 09:00 AM

I'm currently making my first tileset; A desk/drawing theme, made with Powerpoint:p and PSP;)

zapS Aug 9, 2006 09:25 AM

my first tileset is on another computer but if you want to see I can go get it:)

Risp_old Aug 9, 2006 09:43 AM

http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/dow...hp?levelID=521

No clue about the name. It's like 90 percent ripped sprites and 10 percent bad hand-drawn things.

FUN FACT!: Every tileset after that I've ever made had the same filename for the mask and tile bmps, because for some reason after I made it JCF stopped accepting any other filenames.

Hareoic Aug 9, 2006 10:05 AM

The first tileset I made couldn't even be used. I still had all the boxes around everything.

zapS Aug 11, 2006 02:31 AM

This is my first tileset:)

not very good.;)

Stijn Aug 11, 2006 02:50 AM

Not very bad, either.

Palle Aug 11, 2006 03:11 AM

Here is my first:

i'm still working on it.

zapS Aug 11, 2006 03:13 AM

hehe, thanx:)

Camou Aug 11, 2006 03:20 AM

Palle...

That's amazing.

Stijn Aug 11, 2006 03:21 AM

That looks pretty good, Palle. How about including some buildings, like huts? Or giant trees? It would make the set even better ;)

Alister Aug 11, 2006 04:55 AM

My first tileset was "Building Site", which can still be downloaded here.

Here it is, in all its beauty:

Iam Canadian Aug 11, 2006 08:12 AM

That's actually extremely good for a first set. I think I got that off J2C back when that was still going.

Fawriel Aug 11, 2006 01:01 PM

This thread was made to make fun of each others' crappy first tilesets, not to show off awesome first ones that are actually usable, you three. D=

Show me where it explicity states in that quote where we're supposed to make fun of crappy sets.

Iam Canadian Aug 11, 2006 09:15 PM

I guess it was kind of assumed implicitly that all the first sets would be awful, Cornflake01 type sets.

Razilla Aug 13, 2006 03:05 AM

I have made a tileset called "Colorfull Tiles". But can't show it, it is on my other computer and it doesn't have a internet connection.
And the tileset is quite ugly. =P

CoolSoldier Aug 14, 2006 02:20 AM

I want to make a tileset but I don't have Paint Shop Pro (or any other program for that matter) and it would be sport themed..
