Question about forum rules
I had a post deleted recently by Derby because of the following reason:
Quote:
I know the rules are supposedly incomplete, but some of the rules have not been updated since May 2005. While I'm not saying the above rule is made up, having an out of date content topic and the notion the rules are incomplete gives the admins the power to make up rules on the fly. Also, while I'm not saying any admin would do that, the thought of it is rather unsettling. Not only that, but not being allowed to mention contents of a post that violates the rules makes it hard to present any problems you have with someone's ban in a feedback forum topic. So the question is this - Why hasn't any of the rules been updated in over a year if they're incomplete? |

I'd say it's just common sense. If you post a post containing something filtered/forbidden, deleting it wouldn't have much use if you were allowed to repeat it. The admins know what was in it (we can view deleted messages and if the offense was edited out we can ask the one who edited it out), so there is no need to state the exact contents of the post in public anyway. You can just use the name of the offense, for example "bob's personal attack" or "archibald's flame tag" or whatever. Also, if something was edited out, it was obviously not in accordance with the rules for post content you linked to, so repeating it would automatically make the post it's repeated in not in accordance with the rules too 8D |
I do not think this was a rule, considering that I once got this and it was followed up with "Trafton has done nothing wrong." Unless, of course, it is done with the intention of perpetuating the offence.

it may not be a rule but DERBY DOES IT so it must be right
