The first jj2

Wow this was weird. I was bored so i pulled out a beta version of jj2 that i have and it was weird as crap. The files (the exe, dat, and level) files were way smaller. The loading screen was so cool!

I had never played this beta jj2 1.00g version i had gotten. Well I look closer into it and the animations aren't near as cool as 1.2x but that's to be expected on beta. Well I know an abandonware site where u can download this beta version (i don't think 1.00g is shareware but i can't verify that). Also there was no JCS and the level files were .lev which suprised me.

Even so i see no point in making j2l files into lev files at this rate because it seems to make no sense why you'd wanna downgrade your jj2 levels and probably make them more unstable/cutdown then the original j2l files.

Last, I ran the 1.23 patcher on this game and it didn't detect my jj2 even when i directed it to the right folder it wouldn't let me click OK to start patching. I just thought i might throw out there that this could help pave the way for some neat stuff in the future.

Also I now see why they want j2l files converted to lev files. Smaller sizes for downloads. I also realized that anybody can get this copy of jj2. Just thought i'd throw in what I discovered about it and see what you all have to say.

Um, cool.

Camou Mar 13, 2007 11:12 AM

Screenshots =D and maybe some clips so we can see the animations?

Who are "they"? Also, I'd prefer to think J2L files are smaller in size.

Grytolle Mar 13, 2007 11:48 AM

Okay so this is one hell of a... topic full of errors

cooba Mar 13, 2007 12:36 PM

Nothing new.

n00b Mar 13, 2007 01:06 PM

... Last I checked the sprite animations for 1.00x and 1.2x are the same.

Thats right, forgot about those two, and the two soda cans have Pepsi and Coke labels in 1.00, but other than that theres really nothing different between the two that exceptionally makes 1.2x "cooler", unless Drmoo is a diehard Uterus fan.

Violet CLM Mar 13, 2007 01:43 PM

Umm.... did you search at all? The various beta versions have been talked about all over the place.

Good idea. The only problem is it won't run windowed and if i take a screenshot at fullscreen, it'll come up completely black with nothing else but a black screen. But i did think of putting some up though

I don't remember. But overall .lev files are smaller but can't be edited.

Birdie Mar 13, 2007 04:12 PM

.lev files can obviously be edited, or they wouldn't be there, would they?
Also, I'm also pretty sure .j2l is smaller.

There are a lot of gems in JJ2.

Murderbeam Mar 13, 2007 05:36 PM

Um, You mean there are rectangular gem animations?
That'd Be nice.

Violet CLM Mar 13, 2007 07:47 PM

Yes, there are. The sprites can, I believe, be viewed in the Diamondus Beta tileset.

Fawriel Mar 14, 2007 12:14 AM

Are there any screenshots of the old Uterus around? I've never seen that.

n00b Mar 14, 2007 11:02 AM

Extracted from JSD:

When he (she?) chased you, the sprite would rotate a bit so the tentacles would be in your general direction.

finnish pro May 18, 2007 01:30 PM

Screenshots, please.

Jerrythabest May 18, 2007 02:01 PM

I'll make some screenshots of interesting places in 1.00g (and 1.00h (and maybe also 1.10o)) and put them somewhere in a folder on a webserver or on my localhost Apache server so everyone can view them tomorrow, as it's quite late now and I'm now going off to sleep a bit ;p.

Doubble Dutch May 18, 2007 05:15 PM

Cool!

Dermo Jun 4, 2007 12:25 PM

I could tell you where to download 1.00g but i'd get arrested, banned, and post deleted for Warez so forget it.

Jerrythabest Jun 4, 2007 12:55 PM

Oh oops I forgot completely about those screens... I'll really make some next weekend ;p I promise! (and please remind me ;p)

Actually, 1.00g is easier to find online than 1.20 or above.

Jerrythabest Jun 6, 2007 08:24 AM

and that's rather sucky, as you'll need 1.20 or newer to play online so it won't bring new players ;p

n00b Jun 6, 2007 08:53 AM

Actually 1.10o allowed for online play.

Jerrythabest Jun 6, 2007 09:00 AM

oh, yeah ;p though it's really unstable

FQuist Jun 6, 2007 09:55 AM

That doesn't mean you'd be able to play with 1.20-1.23 clients since the patch wouldn't work.

Krouxer Jun 27, 2007 01:35 PM

Could you show us a screenshot, here..?

Jerrythabest Jun 27, 2007 01:42 PM

Well, I got some screens but I have some problems with my Apache server but I'll try to get them up asap ;)

Dermo Jun 28, 2007 09:34 AM

OMG leave this thread alone. I was tired! I wasn't thinking straight. I thought it was neat just because it was different. But I mean come on! People always thinking different things are cool. Like when Cherry Coke changed it's logo or whatever that picture thing was on the cans, I thought that was neat. So leave this thread alone! The only things that's really cool is the loading screens.

And Jerry, use photobucket.com i use them to store my pictures and i've never had an issue.

Jerrythabest Jun 28, 2007 10:49 AM

I prefer to host most things myself, as I can easily add and change stuff then... only things that need to be up 24/7 are uploaded ;) thanks anyway ;)
