JJnet Duel Tournament 1.0

JazzJackrabbit.net and "the crew" is organizing a CTF duel-tourney.
There will be prices for the top 3 players (specially designed T-shirts). If the player belongs to a clan, that clan will be awarded under "awards" here on jjnet.
You need to be fast signing up for this tourney, because there is a 32 player limit!

Grytolle Sep 11, 2009 02:17 AM

"nice"!

Raven aka StL Sep 11, 2009 03:18 AM

As long as the mappool is at least somewhat credible (which I don't doubt in the least)... gg

Superjazz Sep 11, 2009 03:43 AM

The MapPool and Rules are viewable for everyone now, and they should be somewhat final ones. Everyone should read them carefully. Remember that the MapPool is binding like in BatTourney, but you are allowed to veto 2 maps from it(10 maps total.)

Since I am an organizing admin of the tournament,(with Sasik as an assistant admin) I won't be playing myself unless I happen to be the last player needed to complete the sign ups,(in case there is no one else) or if another player equal to me decides to leave the tournament in the first stage.

Also for players who sign up: I really suggest you put some effort for contacting your opponent when you should be facing him/her. I won't be taking this tournament to the end if more than half of the matches are technical wins after the first couple of stages.

Anubis Sep 11, 2009 06:41 AM

I'm in.

Superjazz Sep 11, 2009 06:51 AM

Hello Alex! :D

Also some old and classical tournament players like Vegito, spaceboy, CelL, and of course the regular tournament maniac player Enigma would be well appreciated to sign up.

snzspeed Sep 11, 2009 09:09 AM

surprise :D

Superjazz Sep 11, 2009 10:17 AM

Gj Snz.

Also about your Veto-maps, you can start posting them here now. I will be adding them to your profiles later. Remember, that you aren't forced to veto anything if you want to be 'nice', but I suggest you simply veto the maps you like the least of. Also, pick carefully because you cannot change them after first stage anymore.

As well, if several people wish me to sign up anyway, eventhough I work as the main admin of the tournament, then I shall. :)

PurpleJazz Sep 11, 2009 10:23 AM

Mine >O

I've decided to veto Knightmare Castleand Technodus Cargo Station.

(sorry Rag, but I honestly think TCS is unbalanced, even when dueling ;d)

EDIT: Changed SBv2 to KMC.

CelL Sep 11, 2009 10:25 AM

Sure, I'm in.

Since I have a tradition of making a fool out of myself in each and every tournament I enter and I have no intention of ruining that perfect record: in.

I forbid anyone to choose City of the Snooze or Knightmare Castle against me.

Superjazz Sep 11, 2009 10:32 AM

Thank you dudes! =D

snzspeed Sep 11, 2009 11:08 AM

Ill veto TCS and KC

Superjazz Sep 11, 2009 11:20 AM

Well, I must admit I am more than impressed by the activity. It has been 9 hours since the sign ups opened, and already 23 players signed up. Keep it, people! (y)

By the way CelL, remember to add yourself to the sign up page! I've counted you in for now though.

Vegito Sep 11, 2009 11:30 AM

I'll sign up and see if I'll be motivated enough ;-)
(Don't worry, if I dont feel like playing I'll be saying so before the tournament starts, if I do play I will be contacting the player myself too..)

I say bye to the players who want to choose DCF and Slab Ratz against me.

Superjazz Sep 11, 2009 11:41 AM

So just tell me if you mind playing, and I'll find a replacement for you. (I think I got somebody already. :D)

So during the first sign up day, a total of 27 players signed up. Good job!

DanZeal Sep 12, 2009 01:54 AM

The player list is now FULL!

Foly Sep 12, 2009 02:16 AM

When i click "Duel Tourney" i get {content}... bug?

Superjazz Sep 12, 2009 02:36 AM

Yeah, well...that was an amazingly FAST sign up for this amount of players. 32 players under 24 hours! Apparently JJnet is also enough popular for it's regular visitors to make this possible.

@Foly: The content of the Tournament-section seems broken right now, I guess Dan will fix it in time, or it might be that he is editing the code or something.

By the way, I'd like to note you that this tournament might get started on tomorrow already.

Vegito Sep 12, 2009 02:53 AM

That would be nice, considering I can only play at weekends :\ .. so better today than tomorrow ;o.
Anyway, I didn't add my email to the sign up list cause I dont want spam bots to find it. It's not encrypted. If I have to duel you, I will contact *you* unless you find me on IRC >: )

Raven aka StL Sep 12, 2009 11:44 AM

The duel tourney page oughta be fixed in a flash (or alternatively someone should post the mappool here).

Superjazz Sep 12, 2009 01:26 PM

All Your Base
City of the Sn00zE
Destroyed Cassis Factory
Jungle's Edge
Knightmare Castle
Medieval Skycrapers
Security Breach v2
Slab RatZ
Technodus Cargo Station

The tournament will begin as soon as the site problem gets fixed. We require Nimrod's help a bit.

EDIT: Awesome timing Gry!

Superjazz Sep 12, 2009 02:29 PM

The tournament site is alive and working again! Expect for Bracket Draws soon.

FireSworD Sep 12, 2009 03:04 PM

The Mappool is very well done, good job. I'm pretty optimistic this will be one of the best jj2 tournaments we've had so far. I have a good feeling about this.

I don't have any strong opinions on which levels I want to veto except KMC and BBswing. Also, I will be very strict on who's allowed to host my duels, so I hope there will be no trouble for that.

Raven aka StL Sep 12, 2009 05:41 PM

I'll veto Cassis Factory and Slab Ratz. (Raven)

FireSworD Sep 12, 2009 09:14 PM

Before this tourney starts. I think it's appropiate to state that the dueling results will probably be quite surprising, since this tournament has a mappool focused mainly with balanced levels and newer less played levels. There are definitely some strong players signed up for this tournament, heck anyone can win. That said, I encourage everyone to be smart and watchful of cheating or suspicious activity. After all, it's just a game and nothing really carries that much or any weight (Your bad because you kill people!). So in the end someone has to win, no matter who's against who.

Foly Sep 12, 2009 10:07 PM

I'll veto slab ratz and swingin' jazz.

Unhit Sep 13, 2009 02:07 AM

Good mappool (y)

Vegito Sep 13, 2009 03:02 AM

I agree, theres 2 levels I dislike and I could even veto them out (y)
I hope, as FS said, that this will be one of the best tournaments we've had so far. It's quite long ago since we had a serious tournament try.

PurpleJazz Sep 13, 2009 10:27 AM

First match of the tournament complete

PurpleJazz vs Micky

1st Choice: Swingin' Jazz (Micky)
Score: 2-1
Winner: PurpleJazz
Comments:

This was his choice. It took quite a long time as he was quite hard to kill, since he tended to create seeker walls a lot. Still a decent game, although I could've probably been a bit faster and/or a bit more careful. The timelimit ran out, so we didn't make it to 5 points although we still had a winning result.

2nd Choice: Mediveal Skyscrapers (PurpleJazz)
Score: 5-0
Winner: Micky
Comments:

I really don't know what happened here. I wanted to save my best levels for later rounds so I decided to go with a different choice. However, turns out I suck horribly here. I played like a total idiot, often letting him get away or running straight into his seekers. Not only that, the server lagged horribly in this game, and I got aired several times and even a 3hk.

3rd Choice: Jungle's Edge (Neutral)
Score: 5-0
Winner: PurpleJazz
Comments:

Well, after that horrible MS game I felt like getting my revenge. Plus, I was kinda desperate not to lose on the first round. :P Good game.

Overall Winner: PurpleJazz (7-6)

Thanks to Semili for hosting the first two games, and Zeal Duels for hosting the neutral game!

Superjazz Sep 13, 2009 10:36 AM

As some of you may have already seen the News on JJnet, I'd like to report the rest here as well, that the tournament has begun. The deadline for one stage is 2 weeks by default, but for the first stage it has been already extended, and so the absolute deadline is now 3 weeks, since SR and musti cannot play for the next 2. So:

Deadline: October 4th

Also, I will be soon adding everyone's veto-maps in playernames, so you'll find them out easier. Remember that if you forgot to veto any maps at all, you can still do that even after your first match. However changing vetos is forbidden, as the rules say. When you manage to contact your opponent and agree on a time for your match,(you can play immediately as well, if it fits you two) you should then post it here so I'm able to put it in the schedule on the website.

As you may see the draws made were not full random(which would have been unfair for the more experienced players.) But still pretty much random, so that it's not 100% balanced, which can be exciting in it's own way. I managed to make the draws handily with my own Dice-level, with the assistance of DanZeal, Ragnarok, and Snooze, so credits for them.

Now go ahead, and begin playing. :lori:

EDIT: Well done PJ. That was fast, I admit.

Troglobite Sep 13, 2009 02:35 PM

I'll veto Swinging Jazz and Medieval Skyscrapers.

snzspeed Sep 13, 2009 03:09 PM

Snooze vs Troglobite
My choice: All your base CTF: 5-2 for me

Trog's choice: Jungle's Edge: 5-0 for me

thanks to spaceboy for hosting :)

Troglobite Sep 13, 2009 03:16 PM

Snz won both games by a pretty large amount. On AYB, I was able to get a kill or two, and I believe one of my points was a rush, but he still dominated for the most part. I was nver really able to get the carrot. For my choice, I was originally going to pick destroyed cassis factory, but it wasn't on the server's level list. Then I picked knightmare castle, which he had vetoed, so we ended up playing on my third choice, Jungle's Edge. He pretty much dominated, and i never got a kill.

Good games.

Rabbit_King Sep 14, 2009 06:09 AM

Sliver won two matches. On bbswing 5-4 and on je 5-1. gg, and good luck sliver in next round xD.

Enigma Sep 14, 2009 08:35 AM

Oh dear, first round opponent whom I've never talked to or played with before *adds him on msn and hopes for the best*

-WarrioR- Sep 14, 2009 10:45 AM

I veto Technodus Cargo Station and Slab RatZ.

master sven Sep 15, 2009 12:44 AM

MS vs Jake

TCS (Jakes lvl)

Score MS: 5 Jake: 0

BBswing (MS's lvl)

Score MS: 5 Jake: 3

Final score in Rounds MS:2 Jake: 0

Final score in Points MS: 10 Jake: 3

GG!

Veg, if you face seginTR or whatever his name is on Friday, could we then play on Sunday?

PurpleJazz Sep 17, 2009 07:39 AM

Just for the record, I'll likely be busy during the next few weeks, so if possible could any of my future opponents try to avoid arranging matches on a Monday or Thursday? Thanks.
