JCS Awards 2010 [Nominations thread]
 

The year is drawing to a close, and thus it's time for JCS Awards once again. With R3ptile in the military, EvilMike having fallen off the Earth, and SuperJazz telling me to do it, I decided to handle the things this year.

This year will be done similarly to how things were ran last year. There will be three stages - nominations, then a voting thread, and finally, the results. This will be the thread for this year's nominations. What gets nominated here will be put in the voting thread.



Rules
You may nominate as many things as you want, including your own stuff! If something is mentioned only once here, and it is fairly good, it will probably be in the voting thread. There's nothing wrong with nominating a level more than once, either.

The nominations have to be something from 2010. This means anything that was uploaded to J2O in 2010 - including older levels that weren't uploaded until 2010, but no reuploads, or remakes (unless they're very notable ones). However, this does not include levels that have won awards in the past (e.g. Helldome). Levels that weren't uploaded to J2O this year can be included, as long as they were indeed made this year.

Two recommendations: if you could post a download link to whatever you are nominating, it would save me a lot of time later on, when I get to make the voting thread. Second, if you want your nominations to be a secret for some reason, you can private message me with them.

Fu, Awakening won't get ready for this. :(

I'm nominating Dream Stage for battle, even though snz deleted it. It was featured recently, so I'm sure a lot of people have it anyway.

I forgot it was a featured download. I'll un-delete it, then, because it makes no sense for a featured download to link to a deleted file.

Is SC2 eligible for this? At least one (E. Prime) of the levels has been uploaded before.

No doubt. It's Obi1mcd for sure. I wanted to nominate EvilMike, but those levels weren't made in 2010. At least not all what I liked. That's why I nominated Obi1mcd. Not only for his tilesets, but for his Circuit Breaker.

Oh and I'm looking forward for a Most Improved JCSer-category, since I noticed quite a few JCSers would fit into that category.

I vote for: Obi1mcd and Sir Ementaler.

I didn't make a lot in JCS this year.. didn't even finish Impressions A yet. Light Point was my only uploaded level and basically that's everything I've done in JCS this year. Thanks to SJ for nominating it though. :-)

Thanks for posting this cooba. I was actually planning on doing it myself again this year but less work for me is always a good thing. Also in the future if you want to contact me just PM me on the JCF or J2O, I always respond even if I don't seem like I'm around.

Oh yeah, and this year's awards should be pretty interesting. More than last year at least. Some categories this year are a bit lacking (eg best MP pack) but most have quite a few decent entries. Especially my favourite category, single player, which has a ton of entries. Compare this to 2009 when there was barely anything in SP... I managed to win that one but it was basically by default.

I think SC2 probably counts, because even though the levels are old, the pack itself is new. E. Prime isn't eligible though, according to the rules in the first post, because it's just a new version of a level that has already been uploaded to J2O (albeit in an AB pack).

How about utilities? I know they're not made with JCS, but some people still put a fair bit of effort into them.

Best CTF of 2010: My Beach Fall. Even if I don't win maybe this will raise some publicity :D

Best Battle level: Surreal Supersuburbs. I've got nothing better to do anyway.

All of the SC2 levels have been parts of AB packs, and they're all on J2O. I don't think this makes them uneligible though, because bash packs are different than normal J2O uploads - they're mainly for the players' convenience, not for ratings and critique for the author.

Best CTF: As much as I'd like to vote for Shadow I have to say that Evilmike's island level with islands just roxx. Maybe we could play it in our 4v4's or 5v5's more instead of silwi? It's a level that won't be appreciated for some time, but when it will catch on, the community will play in it a lot. It's good to see a big CTF level which isn't just for the usual 2v2/3v3 format.

Best Battle: I love FS's work a lot, and I really enjoyed playing in his suburbs (me being an Urbs, you can see how I would fill well in that level). But what can I say I've always been a dreamer myself, so my point goes to snooze and his Dream Stage. Good to see the best levelmakers making some battle levels. CTF has become so dominant, although that has not always been the case in the community history. Battle was, at least in the beggining, king, and most duels weren't CTF duels.

Best tileset: I am tempted to say traditional japan, but Glowee is just so radical as well, can I get back to you on this one?

Best MP pack: SC2, mainly because of the awesome abbreviation:)

Best JCSer - Well looks like evilmikey logged some serious hours this year, so he gets my vote!

Well ok I've played starcraft 2 but that most likely doesn't count.

Urbs: It's important to note that this is not the voting thread! You're welcome to list as many levels as you like. It's not a big problem though, because you did list more than just one upload, so if you don't mind, I can take your votes as nominations.

Best Battle of 2010:Coldwater Mines. Not because it's ELC,but because I want to see someone other than EvilMike/Snooze/FireSword/blur getting an award. But still,Surreal Supersuburbs. Because so.
Best CTF of 2010: Twisted System, Employee of the Month.

Best Single Player: The Queen's Tower,
Best Battle: Gadgetary Abundance (StreetFight),
Best other MP level: Shelly's Biggie Test.

Reminder: you have until tomorrow night to post your nominations, and assuming that most people will be partying, this is probably the best time to post if you want to nominate anything.

I'm a little disappointed, because last year's nomination threads had about twice as many posts. Not that it matters a lot, though.

Been admiring these lvls for years.
