Aiko Mar 24, 2001 02:15 AM

btw fquist, does the board cost you anything (as the jmmb obviously did for their admins)?

except a lot of sweat and effort of course :-)))

and a second thought: maybe somewhen in the future we could finance an own domain like "jazz2online.com" (unfortunately someone already registered it. do you know who?). i would be willing to pay for it (a small part of course. others must be in it).

the nagcentral.com address is very hard to memorize (for newbies for example) and makes it hard to advertise.

Newspaz Mar 24, 2001 02:27 AM

Fquist registered it =)

But Communitech (or whatever it's called) doesn't allow linking thru. Wasn't it that?

Ice M A N Mar 24, 2001 03:47 AM

Well.. afaik, It's not just communitech. I don't think any domain can really be set up to go to a subdomain.. (Unless at jazz2online.com there is a single page which redirects you here, which is just ugly and messy :/)

Fquist_old Mar 24, 2001 04:08 AM

Yes. I have registered jazz2online.com, but found out later that communitech did not allow it to be directed to a subdomain.

Currently, we are on onag's space. We'd like to stop bothering him and purchase our own domain. We were kind of talking about that on the old JMMB already. We have several admins wanting to donate money already.

well, okay. its just you know...im kinda afraid of that day you come here and say: "sorry. we dont have the money anymore. tomorrow everything will close. read the bible."

i guess you know what im talking about :-)

Fquist_old Mar 24, 2001 05:02 AM

Rofl..

Well, onag has all the right to close this down. But we won't be satisfied and we will move somewhere else then.

I'll start a money topic in the admins forum again.

Paul Mar 24, 2001 07:49 AM

I'd be glad to help pay for any domain that's going on. Though registration is cheap now--$35 at cheapest I've seen.

Newspaz Mar 24, 2001 08:49 AM

$15 at dotster. Got the tip from Fquist a while ago. =)

I've seen it at 12,95

Fquist_old Mar 24, 2001 08:55 AM

We also need hosting you know..

FireClaw Mar 24, 2001 08:56 AM

Yeah, but I'm sure some don't support boards. Or am I wrong?

Aiko Mar 24, 2001 08:57 AM

i guess the domain itself isnt the problem. but i'd also be ready to pay for *the server*. afaik, it has to allow the php stuff and, MOST iMPORTANT, needs TONS of webspace (up to 500 mb i guess). this board and esspecially the download section eats loads of space, doesnt it, fquist?

not to forget the j2o messaging system and all the text (comments, articles).

DrJones Mar 25, 2001 11:20 AM

If anything happens to Nagcentral, LC's still got room for a board and such. I set up numerous boards there, nobody complained. Still, I'd need to gain Jeh's attn to make him create a separate login and pass...gah.

Oh well, I'm off to die and such...tests tomorrow.

Fquist_old Mar 25, 2001 11:24 AM

would be a pain to convert everything to .phtml and addslashes, but if we grow out of nagcentral, that would be fine..(we will grow out of nagcentral if we keep growing like this)

Matjong Mar 26, 2001 01:07 AM

Quist, is that host that also host the cinemenium site not a good option?

You suggested it some time ago to me

Fquist_old Mar 26, 2001 05:01 AM

hostrocket's great..

Aiko Mar 26, 2001 06:58 AM

I'd prefer paying an own (good and quality) host for Jazz2Online. I have the feeling its not very good to be dependent on someone else's server.

Fquist_old Mar 26, 2001 07:12 AM

It is..

Matjong Mar 26, 2001 07:27 AM

When I look in the list of futeres I see good things.. the cinemenium site who is hosting here is loading very fast for me.

Fquist_old Mar 26, 2001 07:34 AM

Cinemenium is not and never was hosted there.. Cinemenium's host sucked. I doubt I ever suggested it to you.. I think you mean another site..

Matjong Mar 26, 2001 07:38 AM

Hmm, I'am almost sure you said cinemenium. And did that host sux?! It was one of the fastest site I ever saw. So many pics where loaded imidiatly without delay.. The speed was realy good for me..

Fquist_old Mar 26, 2001 07:59 AM

That's because they have moved recently..

Fquist_old Mar 26, 2001 09:33 AM

It turned slow after a while, and was down for days.

Matjong Mar 26, 2001 09:41 AM

Hmm.. strange.. i think I missed that period then

But never mind, that hostrocket isnt very bad I guess
