Jazz Jackrabbit the animated tv series.

As I look into the trademark database of the US, and I search for Jazz Jackrabbit I find three copyrights.

Jazz Jackrabbit 3D
Jazz Jackrabbit
Jazz Jackrabbit

We already knew about the first two. I want to concentrate on the second one. Why did epic register the same name twice? It is because it has two different purposes.

Jazz Jackrabbit 3D and Jazz Jackrabbit both say "Goods and Services: IC 009. US 021 023 026 036 038. G & S: computer game software for personal computers, home video game consoles and arcade based video game consoles. FIRST USE: 19940801. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 19940801"

Now the intresting part. The third Jazz Jackrabbit trademark says

Goods and Services: IC 041. US 100 101 107. G & S: entertainment in the nature of animated TV series

This means that there was, or still is planned a Jazz Jackrabbit TV series. The trademark was first made in March 28, 1997. And the dead/live status still says that the project is alive.

Intresting eh?

ShadowGPW Oct 12, 2002 04:21 PM

wow, this is very interesting NewSpaz...

but its pretty weird to see it this way...

Batty Buddy Oct 12, 2002 04:32 PM

Que Passa!!!!

I KNEW IT!!! They told me there wasn't a chance- they said I was crazy: but I KNEW IT!!!!

You just can't make a bunch of lovable characters like Jazz and his freinds/family/enemies and not make at least SOME plans on a TV show.

ZeroDai Oct 12, 2002 08:01 PM

Does it give any dates as to when it was trademarked?

Tik Oct 12, 2002 10:29 PM

Interesting...but I definetly do not want Jazz going /that/ mainstream. I mean...look what happened to Sonic, eh? The only thing that would be interested for Jazz methinks would be comic books. TV - no.

Super Saiyan Oct 13, 2002 12:26 AM

Well Sonic was fun :p Atleast that was my opinion 4 years ago...

Enigma Oct 13, 2002 12:48 AM

I wonder when this is planned (*if* it is planned). It had better be soon, we'll all be OLD in a few years. *shudders*

$tilettø Oct 13, 2002 01:53 AM

Yeah. ANTIDBZTF also i dont realy think that this is Planned anymore

This could be fun IF they'd make that a few years ago that is.

Ha, old news. At least to me. :) For a while there had been talks around Epic HQ of, indeed, making an animated series. So they went out, registered the trademark, opted the idea and it all got canned.

At your service,

MaGoo_old Oct 13, 2002 04:40 AM

It's funny you should say that, because it reminds me of something I heard a while ago on this one particular cartoon. I can't remember the name of it, but it was about this animal watching T.V. You couldn't see what it was watching, but I noticed a few of the sounds made from it came from Spaz. I found that sort of interesting.

BurningBulL Oct 13, 2002 05:21 AM

I often see cartoons and stuff steal sounds from games and other cartoons.. I also heard the sound of spaz jumping on a spring once but that had (in the cartoon) nothing to do with Jazzjackrabbit.
well.. IF they would make a cartoon out of JJ2 it would probably be some childish program with some green rabbit who always saves the day and stuff:(.....

Yep,prolly!
There is NO,and I mean NO cartoon series which is really good.:p
I mean,Pokemon was interesting for a while, but it got dumber with every episode!:p
And other stuff...
Dun wanna write about all this!
Although,Simpsons are cool, but they are ANTI-heroes,they more likely spoil a day rather than save it!:p

This is old news to me, my mom said she used to watch it when she was a kid or heard of it, and it actually existed I think..

Trafton AT Oct 13, 2002 03:31 PM

Uh...
Jazz Jackrabbit as a character did not exist when your mom was a kid unless she is 5 years old, which I seriously dobut.

I noticed there were 2 copyrights, but didn't actually look at the text for either. That would be very cool if there was a Jazz Jackrabbit animated series, but I dobut it will happen. And the "project status" does not necessarily mean it's still being developed to my knowledge. I believe it just means that the copyright is still active. I hope I'm wrong, though. ;-P

She is not 5 years old, but she told me that when she was a kid, she (atleast heard of) it.

Deja vu, perhaps, because Jazz Jackrabbit did not exist as a character back then. Maybe it was a different series about animated rabbits?

FQuist Oct 13, 2002 04:25 PM

Roseta, as the television series trademark was not filed until March 28, 1997, it's pretty unlikely your mother has seen it when she was a kid.

Ok mabye not when she was a kid but certainly when she was alot longer.

Trafton AT Oct 13, 2002 04:33 PM

Longer? Younger, I think you mean.

The patent was filed in 1997. If your mom remembers it from before 1997, it's something else. Also, I'm 100% sure it was not aired yet (after 1997) since I'm sure we would have heard of it if it actually had any episodes. Likely another dead project that Epic tossed in the trash after Jazz stopped getting them money (i.e. a lot quicker than they thought.)

atesoRJOL Oct 13, 2002 04:48 PM

well, I was just saying what she told me..

Violet CLM Oct 13, 2002 10:51 PM

Oh.

*Thinks of Batman/Superman/whatever TB shows* Comics would work better, I should think. *thinks of Sonic comics* Ok, forget that idea.

Don't know for sure, but I think your mom is confusing Jazz Jackrabbit with Bucky O'Hare, the OTHER green bunny with a gun. Originating from a comic drawn by Neal Adams, he starred in his own animated series around 1990. Again the level of the comic was brought down to saturday morning cartoon quality, but at least he got a show of his own. :)

Aiko Oct 14, 2002 10:01 AM

Cool, thats some good researching, Newspaz!!
Finally some very interesting info on this board amongst all this crap.

BlazinDragon Oct 14, 2002 12:36 PM

So, ur tellin me Epic atually planned a Jazz Jackrabbit TV Series? weird! It just dosent really suit jazz, he is more the computer game type if u ask me.
But still, its cool :D

Flint LP Oct 14, 2002 03:47 PM

wow, not like I would watch it(OK mabey I would but...) if they did pull it off then that would certainly expand our fanbase (you know little kids, all they do is sit in watch TV all day, and I'm sure that at least a few of them will see Jazz.)and maybe EPIC could make some money off it. Hey, this could correspond w/ that dumb cartoonish GBA, they're are both cartoons(you get my gist...)

Oh well since there is no Jazz for now I am just gonna go watch some Monday Night Football, W00T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111111

mabye your right

Trafton AT Oct 15, 2002 11:13 AM

Epic planned a lot of things about Jazz Jackrabbit that never happened and never will happen. If you look at many of the sections of jazzjackrabbit.com, they feature such things as "the game makers vs. the players" and large competitions. I wouldn't get excited over this, but there's still a small chance that it could happen. I wouldn't keep my hopes up, though.

Newspaz Oct 15, 2002 11:47 AM

Err we noticed that as well Trafton

Trafton AT Oct 15, 2002 12:04 PM

Yeah, it just sometimes amazes me how rediculous some of the ideas there were, and now this T.V. series coming up. It appears Epic had very inflated expectations for Jazz. As long as we don't find a trademark for Jazz Jackrabbit Happy Meal toys, I think I'll be fine. :p

(Announcer voice) For a limited time get a Sparking Jazz...
(Points to a figurine of Jazz that shoots sparks from his gun. one of the sparks lands on the table. The table instantly burst into flames.)
... Exploading Spaz...
(Points to a stick of TNT crudely dolled up to look like... Something that kind of resembles Spaz... if he was a tube with eyes and red pocket lint stuck on... and if you squinted reeeeeeeal hard... One of the sparks from Sparking Jazz lands on the fuse, which begins to sputter.)
And Do-nothing-lump-of-plastic Devan
(Points to an immovable unposable blob of plastic that looks like Devan... It also looks like it was made by a drunken blind monkey who was born without thumbs... Sparking Jazz's sparks land on Devan's head, causing it to melt.)
One free in each Crappy meal.
(Exploading Spaz explodes. McDonalds goes up in flames. A two-toed sloth carrying a gun comes onto the sight of the burning resturant.)
Sloth: (slight Jamakian accent.) Well... My job here is done... Who's up for nachos?

(note: the sloth is a personal in-joke. Don't worry if you don't get it, I just had to include it.)

Who says that???

NewSpaz just found a trademark about it nothing more./

Trafton AT Oct 16, 2002 11:55 AM

I meant "coming up" as in information surfacing. Tarnations to my grammar. ;-P

I'll make it more clear. Thanks for pointing that out.

I think there is little chance it will happen.
