i hope :S

JelZe GoldRabbit Jun 15, 2001 05:25 PM

Killerrabbit, you try making a game from scratch. Lets see, first you need an engine, then some programs...(goes on for hours). O yeah, you finally need a publisher. And that's what Epic couldn't find

Michael Jun 15, 2001 08:51 PM

And if you want to make a cool game it needs a cool engine and those arn't in stores and are around 250,000$ to 500,000$ or 600,000$! The bottom line is, negative answer, probably no.

But I think that some day our kids will be playing with a 3D green rabbit... *sigh*

Another big aspect is that companies look at what sells. Right now, Unreal is raking in the most dough for them, so that is what they will do more for.

Trust me, UT has a MUCH BIGGER community.

Wild Angel Jun 16, 2001 01:58 PM

So what if they have a bigger community? We're all pretty much friends in this community, and that is all that counts.

nitronao Jun 16, 2001 06:54 PM

You do have a good point. Some people in the UT community will rip your head off just for existing.

And heaven help you if you're a newbie!!!

EvilMike Jun 17, 2001 10:44 PM

Although I do not want to sound like some sort of pessimist, but I would have to dissagree with Wild Angel's post.

If a game company, or any company for that matter creates something, they have to make money. If they do not, they lose money, and sometimes go bankrupt because of it. A small, but close community will bring in less money to the company as opposed to a large but more chaotic community.

When I was a newbie, I was actually treated quite nicely. I had fairly good skill for a newbie though, so that may have done something for me. Also, in a game like that, you should rip THEIR head off before they rip off yours

aw5 Jun 23, 2001 05:00 PM

You guys do know that JJ2 actually lost money*. That is the main reason that they con't find a publisher.

*someone important said that some time ago.

Derby Jun 23, 2001 07:32 PM

Actually, JJ2 was more of a sleeper hit; they didn't believe it would really rake in as many sales as it did, as 3D was becoming more of a standard at the time, and it would probably be overlooked. They didn't necessarily lose any money; actually, they probably made a good profit off of it. However, it just wasn't enough for the average game. Jazz Jackrabbit 2 is still mentioned for still surviving in an industry now rendered in 3-D, but that's about it as of now.

~SPLASH~ Jun 24, 2001 01:40 AM

the first tim i played UT i got real mad cos they were swearing at me alot...later i found that it was the autotant

Newspaz Jun 24, 2001 01:40 AM

I've heard that it Project2 made most money out of it. Godgames did actually lose money on it. That's also why they didn't want to develop it.

KRSplat Jun 24, 2001 04:34 AM

(think think)

If Project 2 made most money in Europe... but they're gone now... another publisher releases it in Europe, and you sell it to me! us!

ShadowGPW Jun 25, 2001 12:10 PM

Thats the problem currently.

P2 Died and Epic has now the full rights to do what they want.

Lost boys want to fight for these rights. If they win they will get it all, release source, make a Jazz 3 without Epic's stupid things and rights.

~SPLASH~ Jun 26, 2001 12:13 AM

is there a chance they can win?

KILLERRABBIT(ICED KILLER) Jun 26, 2001 04:21 AM

i dunno it might be possible.... but im not sure it will work out for JJ3

Assassin Jun 26, 2001 09:53 AM

We also still have Project 3...

ShadowGPW Jun 26, 2001 01:43 PM

That won't help much..

Captain Spam Jun 26, 2001 08:43 PM

Right, here's the full story as I've heard it numerous times...

Jazz Jackrabbit 2 was pretty well hailed by every reviewer alive as being a unique kick in the pants from a genre of game (2D platformer) long considered dead. Most of the people who played it loved the game, but sadly, the number of people who bought it was quite dismally low. To date, it remains the only game the Gatering of Developers LOST money on publishing.

See, that's the sorta reputation that follows a game series. Never mind the bestselling status Jazz 1 had in its day.

Afterward, another company (I think it was Lost Boys Software) actually DID begin making a Jazz Jackrabbit 3. They used the Unreal engine to do the job, and from all I've been told, they did a good job with it. Epic was impressed, as well, and they kinda wanted to make it happen.

BUT, as it turns out, Epic doesn't publish their own games anymore. After Unreal was released, they kinda went crazy, or greedy, or something, deciding to ditch all their old games (You can't buy Jazz 1 from 'em anymore) and stop publishing their own games. And remember how Jazz2 never sold well? Nobody ELSE wanted to publish it, either.

Jazz Jackrabbit 3, therefore, kinda ceased production. And Arjan Brusse, the maker of Jazz, kinda said he didn't want to deal with "that green rabbit" for a while.

Best rumor I've heard is that they might release whatever they had as a mod to Unreal/UT. But, as it stands, don't count on Epic to make Jazz Jackrabbit 3...

F!re Jun 27, 2001 12:53 AM

Why won't Epic just publish jazz jackrabbit3 themselves or make a mod of it for Unreal Tournament.

Electric Ir Jun 27, 2001 02:11 AM

Because they don't care anymore for "that green rabbit".

'nuff said.

~SPLASH~ Jun 27, 2001 03:33 AM

*gets furious, gets mad, gets out of control*

what a guts, dont want to do anything with the green rabbit anymore, the one that made them famous and rich..id say we kill em

Captain Spam Jun 27, 2001 09:08 AM

F!re: Remember, Epic doesn't publish their own games anymore. The old days of Epic making, publishing, and publicizing their own games is long gone. Now, I'm assuming solely in an attempt to save money, they outsource ANYTHING they can to other companies. This, of course, kinda digs them into a rut if they think a game looks good but nobody else trusts the series.

Fquist_old Jun 27, 2001 11:49 AM

This is not about care of meanies, but about money, as spam kind of said.

And shadow, that's not entirely true. No-one says they will be making jj3 at lost boys, and they aren't going to fight. They (probably) just send a few lawnyers to officially talk about the sourcecode.

Captain Spam Jun 27, 2001 04:36 PM

Yes, I'm here again. And I'm back for revenge. >:-)

Yeah, it was either Lost Boys or World Tree... one or the other, really. Couldn't remember.

And even if Epic DID care about Jazz, they'd still need a publisher. Which, unless someone suddenly decides to have a change of heart, it doesn't look like it'll happen...

EvilMike Jun 27, 2001 08:09 PM

What's a lawnyer? Does it cut grass?

ShadowGPW Jun 27, 2001 11:09 PM

ok, but in other words.. Jazz is Dead but thats something we know sinds 1998 =\

F!re Jun 28, 2001 12:14 AM

Is jazz jackrabbit for the gameboyadvance still coming out¿

Assassin Jun 28, 2001 02:08 AM

I know I should start about this but...

If Jazz is dead why can't we have the Jazz3 demo than?

*hides away scared for the answers he'll get*

Fquist_old Jun 28, 2001 02:20 AM

Electropizza: the point was they couldn't find a publisher.. that's all. That has nothing to do with care.

ShadowGPW Jun 29, 2001 09:28 AM

Fire> the chance is 0.01% that it will come on the GBA

assas> Because that would cost money to use the engine.

KRSplat Jul 1, 2001 11:40 AM

yet the 0% chance is usually taken
