Apparently, in order to get extra layers to show up you have to save the level in your JJ2 directory. Not in a separate folder (like where I keep all the levels...

Lets have a look at version 1.20
I happen to still own my original release JJ2 CD with version 1.20 from 1998, and despite being pretty badly scratched it happily still works! This green CD with the grey JJ2 logo is the UK release...
