Jazz 2 800*600???

Heya. Anyone got any ideas about how to make jazz's resolurion 800*600 pixels? The highest I can make is 640*480 but that can be done in the options menu. Is there any way (like memory editing, I tried but jj2 always crashes) to make it 800*600? Hehe! It'd be fun to see further :P

I don't think that is "fun". It would enable you to see people before they see you, giving you an unfair advantage...next to all other advantages that are already there!

I have tried it by changing memmory addreses. But somehow, I was only able to change the width (640 to 800). And when I did I could see what was behind me in front of me.

Not a big succes :-/.

Overlord has a talent, and he shouldnt waste it
If he makes this possible, it would be cool, especially if he makes it downloadable for everybody, and i dont see why he wouldnt make it a public file. IF he ever succeeds to make it.

Aiko, no personal attacks. I don't even believe Overlord still devotes his life to making it easier for cheaters.

Txl kill, I think Kaz is trying to say that some people get inspired by Overlord's programs to cheat.

Overlord's publicly available programs do not allow people to cheat. The Anti-Access Violation patch was very useful, Project T makes it easier to make colored text, and Project Cataclysm even helps to stop cheating. All of the other programs that can be used for cheating are protected by keys which makes it difficult for the average cheater to use them (though the experienced cracker may break through). Also, I have never seen Overlord cheat. It is just that some people may misunderstand his intentions, that's all. Take yourself, for example, you made a megawarp program that was copied off Overlord's program (Reference: J2HG board).

I'm not saying that hacking is synonymous with cheating because I know that those two are very different things. Link's Chatlog, for example, was brought about by hacking and so was pennywise's XJJ2 yet both of those programs don't allow people to cheat.

Yes! DO this! I've wanted to have JJ2 play at a larger resolution for ages, cause my monitor is running at a high enough resolution that I have to adjust the screen size to make it fit.

Feature for next ver?

Hmm, higher resolutions... maybe if we can get that into v1.25, that would be great. As mentioned, single player only though. A good remedy would be to have the screen fade out on the sides with high resolution while playing a multi-player game. The engine already supports these features with ambient lightning.

So far, i've seen nothing useful from this guy.

I just visited his website again. In the download section there are programs like "Address Calculator" (that helps you with hacking and cheating, as far as i understand it), "Project Inormer v2.0" (that gives me, as he puts it, "really useful information" about other players; i wonder what that could be), "Jazz 2 Ultra warp v1.01" (the last months, when i joined JJ2 servers, there were dozens of 12-year-olds babbling about a program called "Megawarp", which will help you to warp from one point to another in a level; i guess there is some connection between those programs). To run his episode, you need to start a COM-file. And so on and so on. That's just not my style. Sorry.

Sure, you may say that i'm just envious because of his obviously very good coding skills, but that's really not that point. I only think that if someone has talent in that field (like Overlord), he or she should use it for positive, good, helpful, useful stuff.

Also, a large part of the problem is that he can't keep all his insider knowledge for himself (like Pennywise, Cheeze, Everlasting, Shadow and some others did and do). If he would cheat, okay, i wouldn't care. But if he *publishes* a program that helps all those other losers cheating, i don't like that very much.

I've been playing this computer game for a pretty long time now, and i'm really a big fan of it. Regarding "hacking" and unfair cheating, the scene has definitely changed the last months. Mr. Overlord's role in this process in not as unimportant, as some of you may think. If you really didn't recognize that, i wonder how much you really care about JJ2.

By the way, XJJ2 and ChatLogJJ2 are great and useful programs, imho. I'm really looking forward to the new version of the latter (finally TSF support :-). Not to mention Jazz2Organizer by MetalWarrior, which is very underestimated.

Hmm.. maybe we could go for 1280x1024 and then I could make the Battle Server my desktop

Thinking about how screen resolutions are set in actual code, I don't think it would be just as easy as editing a couple memory addresses.. You'd have to catch the variables at a very specific time in the program (me thinks).

I'd also guess jj2 only views certain things at a max resolution so things wouldnt even show up if you could make the thing bigger. also, Im sure jj2 only keeps track of certain things when players are alway in the level. at a higher resolution, it wouldnt keep track.

And BTW if you would look just a LITTLE closer to my programs you'd see that every "cheating" program is protected with at least some sort of security. Even address calculator has it. You don't see it but its there so stop despising me. I'm a big fan of jj2 too, you know so why would I destroy it? Give me a good reason.

Ow! And if the community demands so I can put them off.

Overlord's "cheating" programs are password protected so whoever downloads them cannot use them right away. The protection WILL stop the average user. If he took out portions of the code to totally disable the functions even after the key is obtained, then his programs are uncrackable.

The cheaters could* be using the crazy warp program of Txl Kill's, which, according to Overlord, is basically a copy of his mega warp. Or maybe they've found the correct memory addresses and values for it by themselves via game hack or a similar memory searching\editing utility so it's not fair to automatically blame Overlord.

*this means they might be, I am not saying that they do use Txl Kill's crazy warp program or any of his programs to cheat

Why even bother creating cheating devices? Protected/Uncrackable or not. By creating stuff like this you will create a risk. It is like creating a device to blow up earth, and then say: "hey dont worry - it has no batteries!" - that doesn't mean it is useless.

(Im not saying Overlord is stupid, I like his Omega program, and some others as well. I just think the cheating devices suck. )

i tried memory editing the addresses that would make the game change resolutions. the resolution screwed up for a bit, then crashed. it was, however, beginning to work before the crash.

Maybe he just wanted to test his skills or do a programming exercise; I don't think his programs were made to blow up the earth then say don't worry it has no batteries.

I mean, if I can program and I want to take JJ2 apart and see what I can do with it, there is no stopping me. If I want to release those programs just for the purpose of wrecking the community, I wouldn't bother to protect them and would even highly publicize them so that everybody would be able to use them.

Thankfully, Overlord is not like that, he just probably wants to exercise his programming skills. If his program doesn't have any real danger potential, he releases in unprotected, like his Anti-Access Violation Patch and if and when it does, like in MegaWarp, he makes sure it's well-protected. So that when you download it, you cannot use it unless you can crack it. And, since, according to him, the programs are well protected, you must be an experienced cracker to get through them.

Good point. Also, I don't think any J2HG member, besides Overlord and probably Link, knows enough ASM and has enough experience to crack it.

There is no point in publishing these programs *at all*.
If he wants to practice his coding skills, let him do that. At home, on *his* little PC.

P.S.:
If you had followed how things developed, you would have noticed that it took a long time and some discussion before Overlord realized what he was doing (and only after that, he built the "protection" modes into them).

Hmm, and yeah, they should ethier not support jj2 (lol) or not be distrubituted for that program that finds the hex adress that's being modified.

Newbie hackers are very unsensitive to what they're doing to the surroundings =P.
Oh yeah, and he could be doing it for popularity =\, although I sort of doubt that (and sort of don't in the same way, just a logical inference).

Oh yeah, incase you haven't already seen, it's a direct draw error... basically yeah, you would need to edit the coding.

I tend to agrea why not add a little function like this: user clicks cheat button on trainer>trainer cheats, trainer wrights i am cheating in the chat.

that way it wouldnt matter as youd just kick the cheaters as soon as the message came up....

Aiko, the programs could be used for level debugging\testing\experimenting purposes (i.e. in single player levels), even if there are cheat codes you can type, they have their limits and it is way easier to click on a button to activate. I know that this makes cheating in multiplayer games easier but if the program is unusable, it won't be a hazard.

Take into account that he is not the only one who has made programs for cheating in JJ2. A lot of people before him have been hacking JJ2 (like mezz who made one of the first level depassworders and pennywise who made xjj2) or using memory searching\editing programs to cheat in multiplayer games (I can name names, if you wish).

Thirdly, who are we to tell him what to do? I agree completely that cheating is bad and will ruin the community but helping people cheat in JJ2 is not exactly Overlord's objectives. As Newspaz said, he made anti-cheating programs as well, which he could easily have chosen not to do. I think he just made the "cheating" programs to show what he can do to mature and responsible people who are not interested in cheating, but are interested in the inner workings of a program.

Also, I did follow how things developed. Even before he made this topic, his programs were already protected, and I think the people who have visited his webpage before this topic will know about that.
