A life or death situation!!!

Hello, everyone. I never thought I'd have a reason to post here, but an aspect of computers has finally gotten the best of me. I have a router-related problem with JJ2 - you all know the problem. I time out after 30 seconds. If I host, the server just pings infinitely. I've tried opening the ports, I've tried using a port trigger, I've even tried a DMZ, and nothing seems to work. I'm using a D-Link DI-524. Anyone want to help me? ;p

I might have eventually suggested that you use DMZ since that was one of the only ways I was able play JJ2 with my D-Link router (which I don't have anymore, but I believe it was a DI-604). At the time I used either DMZ or I opened the ports from 1000-5000. I suppose could've used 1024-4999, but I didn't know what the ephemeral port range was back then.

Anyway, I wouldn't know why DMZ isn't working for you unless it has something do with yours being wireless. I checked dlink.com (DI-524||DI-604) and I found that the Advanced Firewall Features are identical for both routers. I'm just going to conclude either you didn't initialize DMZ correctly or you have to go an extra step to get it to work. I'll try to find a better answer when I get the chance.

I am able to host when I use a wireless D-Link connection, I think I have DL-512 or something, I guess I can check when I get home. My DMZ configuration was very easy to do - just type your local IP into a field.

I assume disabled all other firewalls and so on already.

Is this something that has worked before, but something changed to make it not work?

Maybe you could try setting up your computer to use a static IP behind your router if you don't already. Sometimes that has made a difference.

Actually, my IP (assigned by my ISP) IS static. I also have a static address assigned by my router.

No, it's never worked right - ever since I bought it, I've had problems with online games.

There is a distinct possibility that your router was faulty when you got it, seeing how you say you always had problems with online games. Do you have a repair store near you (or Geek Squad ) you can get it checked at?

Well, I guess I'm going to have to be one of those oldies who just camps at the forums and doesn't play, because I still can't fix this. Of course tech support is worthless.

If DMZ still doesn't work no matter what you've tried, then my guess is it's either another firewall or it has something to do with NAT (Network Address Translation). Before I got my Linksys router, I had problems with playing JJ2 online because of the NAT on my Westell modem. The solution from what I read said I was supposed to bridge the modem somehow, but I couldn't figure it out. I should probably do some more research on that subject sometime.

I'm just wondering, what model is your modem?

It's a D-Link DI-524, revision C.

I wanted your modem model, not router model (I wouldn't assume your router also served as a modem), but the addition of "Revision C" helps me a bit. You may want to view this site in case you haven't already. The FAQ on Gaming Mode might be useful.

I'm still not ruling out DMZ as a possible solution since I still believe it should've worked. Next time you try it, make 100% sure you're using your computer's IP address.

You have a satellite internet connection? If so then I'd just give up - the lag would make it unplayable.

Wireless fiber? That's kinda a contradiction - fiber by definition isn't wireless.

Just what is your internet connection?

What happens if you try a direct connection (i.e. bypass the router completely)?

That used to work fine before I bought the router, but now when I try a direct connection it doesn't work. Period.
