Exclamation To set the 'Time Out' problem straight...

To set the time out problem straight:

In order for Jazz2's Multiplayer System to work you must have ports
10052, 10053, and 10054 Open! And capable of recieving AND SENDING (Now those were the TCP ports)
You also need port 10052 ( UDP ) open for recieving and sending

Most of the time this is a problem simply solved by closing a firewall, or going into the settings of the firewall (if you can't close it) and setting exception ports. If that's not possible and you must have a firewall..... You're screwed.

Another common problem is a proxy. Proxy's are used when ppl feel some person is actually going to find something important about them on their computer o.O.
But anyway! To check if your proxy is using the ports found above, go to the top of your browser. (This is only for internet explorer) Click on tools, then click on Internet Options. Once the Internet Options menu appears goto the connections tab. Click on the button at the bottom that says Lan Settings.. If the last box is checked, look over to the side and if the number listed in the box is the same as one of the port numbers above, you should uncheck use proxy server. If you must use a proxy, you can find free proxys at http://tools.rosinstrument.com/proxy/

If you are one of the rare few which have (--) for an ISP.. which uses firewalls that block every port in existance... You can kindly contact them and tell them your buisness server requires those ports to be open. IT WORKS!

( G'day)

This would be great for an article on J2O. Thanks for explaining that.

Look in the articles section

I explained how to do it (but not with any explanations...) for a Linksys router in the Articles Section of J2O. But I like his because he tells about the stuff. And Derby, exactly why did you edit the ISP? I've never heard of an ISP with a swear word in it....or did he simply use a swear to talk about the ISP(s)....

Anyway, just for the reference, McAfee Virus Scan Online's Firewall (you have to pay more, it doesn't come with it) does not block ports, it just blocks applications (programs) from accessing the internet at all. This is what the most common firewalls do, so as long as you saw allow to Jazz Jackrabbit 2 (Jazz2.exe)* you will be able to host a server on Jazz.

Also, (I'm sure you knew this) but joining other games requires absolutely no ports, just an internet connection.

I'm gonna go update my J2O article explaining it, and add some pictures.

~SB

*This is how it is displayed by most Firewalls.

..

It does, actually, require the ports listed in the FAQ to be open.

I already posted it too many times, and told people about it too, and I think I did this over 70 times or more.

A good post, except for one problem. It doesn't work one bit.

Smile erm.. different problem?

It only works for problems dealing with a proxy and an ISP firewall.
A linksys firewall was covered by link already.

The only other problem that I can see is like mine.. with those wierd routers that work without software.

Alberto already posted about this many times and has told many people (which includes me, GenExMRT, and many others) about this. If anyone deserves the credit its him, its just that he did not post a topic about it.

But how about a RT311 firewall? It's supposed to be common.....
