Can Jazz 1 run smoothly on new PCs? HOW???

Argh.... the action is a little choppy but not as bad as the music. I use VDMsound and some patch, TPPatch I think... I fooled with the settings there, but its a little complex, I'm just not sure how to get it to work!

Is there a guide to do it - a 'how to' if you will?

Do you need to know my specs too? Help me if you can play Holiday Hare 95 or Jazz CD properly.

It is just not the same as it was on my old 486, but that PC isn't set up anymore (no room for it).

I would appreciate it!

Other questions:

1) Hey I want to change my username, and this board doesn't have a post count, so can I do that? If I make a new account then how do I delete this one?

2) Why can't we have avatars? =(

I think the admins are against avatars, since they take up bandwith.

That's completely out of order.

Except for that, I think moslo helps in order to let JJ1 work properly.

I run Windows XP Home Edition SP1 on a Pentium IV 2.53ghz 1gb ddr ram. I install the game from its original cd and download the Turbo Pascal patch and extract it to the game dir. I type "tppatch file0001.exe" in command.com and voila the game can start and run normal without the Runtime error. (Had the same problem with my Windows 98 Pentium II 233mhz 64/192(+added)mb sd ram.)

You can get tppatch.exe (Turbo Pascal Patch) on Haze's site by the way .

@Jazzyman: You can use the already TP Patched Holiday Hare '94 in that case. Just unzip it to your Jazz-directory.

However this still not solves Nadine's original problem. Apparently she's able to run Jazz but it runs rather sloppy. This probably has to do with the VDMSound emulator. Try looking around at the forums/posts on the VDMSound project page at Sourceforge.net.

Yeah, thanks Haze. Cause I do have it patched so it can run, and I do have to use VDMsound or else the game runs worse. But it still isn't smooth gameplay or sound, so maybe I need help with VDMsound. So thanks, I will check that site.

LOL! On the 3D Realms forums it's exactly opposite! Avatars are allowed but not signature images.

What Karmus said is true. I had massive problems running JJ1 until I tppatched file001.exe and now it works smoothly and very fast.
(I have an AMD Athlon on 901 Mhz)

But music won't work for me either. Weird.

As for avatars, that would be cool. And I never understood why don't we have the post counts.

To avoid having to use VDM Sound, you could always dual boot your system to Windows 98, 95, or MS DOS. You'll have to make sure you have drivers for your sound card unser those systems though. You'll also still have to use tppatch

VDMSound just makes the sound go away completley, could an onboard soudncard have anything to do with that?
