Um, just patch the jazz2.exe with the program and everything will be fine.

I would also love to see anims.j2a uploaded somewhere as backups, for those who didn't have a backup and fell victim to the autosave... If this was possible in a legal way, of course.

It seem JCF administration got a move on since my name got "finally" changed. But hey thanks guys out there.

Making kind of a tribute to Foo races + research on the subject... (It's going better now that we have finally foo races uploaded ==> HERE.)
Progress: ▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄ 10% or so...
And also randomly here and there hosting the original Team Foo races!

Its better than making a new thread IMO.
Uploading the anims.j2a I think would have the same fiasco as uploading jazz2 altogether. I think its illegal.

Questionable, maybe, but considering it needs the rest of the program to run, is harmless by itself.

But really, JJ2 is easy enough to get on the internet now, so if you need to fix an installation, you just download it and replace the files.

For one thing, the anims.j2a is on the JJ2 disc, I think. But would it be illegal to upload an anims.j2a file? I was thinking of starting a new thread for this, as I'm trying out some custom animations for a generic SP pack. Would the j2o admins allow custom anims.j2a files to be uploaded?

Personally I don't see a problem. I mean even if you get a copy of the animation file, what can you do with it without Jazz? I personally don't see why it would be illegal as you really can't do anything with it other then have fun with the sprites without ruining your own j2a file.

Not on most most European discs, I've heard. At least not on mine. And since you can't really use the file without the game, I don't anymore think of it being too illegal... One problem (easy to solve though) are the differences in anims between versions (swap anims.j2a between 1.23 and TSF or vice versa, and you'll see). That would need all (or at least most usual ones) uploaded too.

About uploading j2a files, I think they would let you upload it. There once was an upload of a customs anims file (altough the only edit of it was to turn 1up into a can of spam. Don't ask, google it.), but it's not there anymore... But I don't think admins removed it, maybe the user deleted it. And whatever, upload it and see youself what do they say, I don't think you can get banned for doing that, eh?

It's not on every installation disc (some contain all JJ2 files, some just contain an installer), but if it's not you can just reinstall the game to get the file back. If you don't have an installation disc, there's countless ways to acquire a JJ2 installer... but it's not allowed to upload Anims.j2a to J2O, since you should be able to easily acquire it by yourself if you own the game.

It becomes kind of grey area for custom J2A's, but I think we have yet to see one appear on J2O.

Bottom line, always make backups

I didn't really think I had to explain this more precicely, but it seems I do...

You are 100% right. But the point is: the Anims.j2a is not contained the disk as anims.j2a file, instead it is packed inside a file called install. And thus it may not be simply copied to your JJ2 directory. To get it, you need to reinstall JJ2.

Did that clarify it up?

Well, I can see how it would be confusing, since some JJ2 disks do basically contain the standard JJ2 folder and an installer that basically copies it to your harddrive.

In theory it may be illegal, but based on the fact that in theory anyone who would actually want a .j2a would already own the game I'm not seeing a lawsuit worthy problem.

Partially provided that the above is partially true, if you were to change all (or with some slack some) of the animations you are in theory yours, and you could post a readme with credits to Epic (plus again anyone wanting them owns the game) I think that the Administrators should consider the allowance of {appropriate} .j2a's

ALSO: I don't know if this has been brought up but if you edit a .j2a it affects locally I believe (verification?), so I do not think that it could be used to cheat online.

The sprites are only local, but I don't quite know how collision detection and other things would work in an online game. It would be interesting to try it out.

I think I've tried that out before. The host's collision detection is what matters, so I deleted Spaz's crouching sprite, and a player could become invincible by ducking. It was pretty funny watching people seek spam me to no effect. Also, I think I made the sprite for bouncers enormous, so they could hit people from a long distance.

Dude I totally remember both of those! You are right though , only the host was effected so on somewhere like zeal or sfaszists servers I see no potential problems. I remember Grytolles mouse program interferred with the .j2a quite significantly
