JJ2WC III: Duellist Cup Signups

JJ2WC Duellist Cup Signup

This is the official thread for signing up on participating in the JJ2WC Duellist Cup 2005! (formerly: Pre-JJ2WC Duellist Tournament) The official rules of the tournament will follow later on, but here are a few small guidelines:
- Tournament works with a Double Elimination Bracket. This means, there’s a winner and a loser bracket. Someone in the Winner’s bracket may lose 1 match, and continue the tournament in the Loser’s bracket. If a player gets defeated in the loser bracket, he’s out of the tournament. In the end, the final will consist out of the Winner’s Bracket winner versus the Loser’s Bracket winner. However, if the Loser’s Bracket winner wins the final, the Winner’s Bracket winner can ask for a rematch, since he never lost a match while the Loser’s Bracket winner did. An example of how this system works can be found here: http://www.jazz2online.com/d3/Pre-JJ2WC-2.htm
- The tournament is open for 32 players. This means, the first 32 subscribers get a place. If there are not enough subscribers, we’ll make it a 16-player cup, with qualification rounds in case there are over 16 players.
- Each match in the tournament is “best of three” This means the final score in rounds will always be 2-1 or 2-0 (or 1-2 and 0-2, ofc.) Matches are played with a neutral host (the players have to find one themselves) Scores should be reported to the Cups’ Supervisor, which I am. You can do this by mail or MSN. Both players will be asked for a confirmation of this game. If the loser claims that he has won the game, the host will be contacted.
- The first two rounds have a duration of one week, after that the rounds will be 0.5 week all, this means that the following time schedule is made:
o Winner’s Bracket round 1 (32 players) – November 5th-11th
o WB round 2 (16 p)/ Loser’s Bracket round 1 (16 p) – November 12th-18th
o WB round 3 (8 p) / LB round 2 (8 p) – November 19th-22nd
o WB round 4 (4 p) / LB round 3 (4 p) – November 23rd – 25th
o WB finals (2 p) / LB finals (2 p) – November 26th-December 2nd
o Grand Final (2 p) – December 3rd. Eventual rematch at December 10th
In case a player can’t show up on a certain time (mainly the latter rounds) they can contact me for another date. Do this in time!

Rules for subscribing:
- Give out the correct information I need! For in the database, I need the following stuff from everyone: Nickname, Nationality, and e-mail address (make this your MSN address if you have one). Example for the stupid among us:
Name: ChippieBW
Nationality: Dutch
E-mail: chippiebw@ncmv.net
If you submit it that way I’ll be extremely happy. Thanks in advance.
- You can only subscribe yourself, and you can only participate ONE TIME.
- Nothing more to say.

The final list of all participants can be found on JJ2WC’s newspage. Again, this is the URL: http://jj2wc.ncmv.net/

Ohh and despite it saying I cant do it, I made a lil agreement with yasco, where we both agreed that the either of us to see this topic first, enters the other one as well. I mean to do that, u choose whether to allow it or not, but he will verify anyway.

I have a few questions that if answered should lead to less confusion down the road, I strongly recommend that a policy is formed to settle these situations, Chippie. I'm sure that a few other problems may arise, I encourage you to think through all possible problems now so you can mitigate long delays.
  1. What happens when two players do not complete the scheduled matches by the deadline? Who advances?
  2. Are matches to be played in a specific mode (battle/ctf)? Who decides the levels?
  3. Are matches to be played to a certain score/timelimit?
  4. How are match times to be arranged? Are they set by you or do the individuals arrange times themselves? What happens when a time agreement can be not reached?
  5. In the case that someone does not show up for an agreed match time how is it verified that the one person (or even both) did not show up? Will missing agreed on times hurt chances if matches are not completed?
  6. How are the starting matches determined?

  1. This could indeed happen. In case both players aren't willing to play, it's heads or tails. In other words, I decide who goes on. If, which will be more likely, one player wants to play on the other doesn't, the player who is eager to play will go on. Since this is pretty hard to find out, I'll take a closer look at each case. I will start a conversation between the two players and if everyone claims that they want to play, I'll just arrange a match for them.
  2. Matches are usually played in CTF. This means, if one player wants CTF and the other wants Battle, CTF is the mode players will play in. On the other hand, if both players prefer Battle, Battle will be played. About the levels: this is also arranged by the players themselves. If they can't get a real compromis about which map they'll play on, they should contact me. In that case I'll pick a map from the JJ2WC Mappool (in case of CTF) or a random Battle level. But this is not likely to happen.
  3. Rounds are always played till 5 points or 5 roasts, and a match is won after winning two rounds (best of 3)
  4. Match times are usually arranged by the persons themselves. Again, if a compromis cannot be found, I'll try to solve it through a conversation on MSN. If one player isn't able to play the match at all (because the player is on holiday) it would be the best if the match is played later on, during the next week. If the player with the time problems is still not able then, he has lost the match. If you can't play, you shouldn't have signed up for the tournament.
  5. This is indeed a problem, the best solution would be a screenshot by the host of the match, showing the game with the present player clairly on the names list, including the decided time. If this screenshot seems valid enough, I'll contact the missing player. If he really wasn't present on the right time, he lost the match. If he claims the screenshot is fake, further investigation and a possible new time will be arranged, unless the host and present player can really prove the screenshot is real (in example, by showing chatlogs of the time agreement and letting me join the server etc.) This could all be faked, but that's just a piece of trust. No system is really water-tight, I think. Feel free to come up with a water-tight solution
  6. I'll have a look at the first four places of last season, and I'll take care that they are not facing each other during the first rounds. For the other 28 players, the places are just randomly decided.
I hope I answered all questions properly

I'd also recommend the match host itself to take a screenie...a screenie where you can see both players' ip(F9 twice) from the list so if there'd be some confusion of fakers and such, that could be investigated.

As for the fakers, just don't let unknown people in

The last tourney didn't have "water-tight" rules and it worked perfectly.
Bob, already thought about participating for a change?

Hmm...
In the first place I only wanted people to only sign up for themselves, but it seems like there are enough places free at the moment. However, if there turn out to be over 32 subscriptions after all, the persons who signed up themselves get priority over people who let others sign up for them. But I won't worry right now, since there are still 13 places left.

Are there 32 active players?

Edit: I haven't duelled for at least couple of months and I need to get back in shape. If you need someone to practice with, feel free to ask me.

Edit II: According to the statistics, FS should be 3rd, Skull 2nd and me 1st. I can't wait to find out if it's either gonna happen or not.

Chiippie has already said something about it:
"Matches are usually played in CTF. But this is not likely to happen."
