Question .J2B - Question

I like some level music stuff..
But when I think I wanna listen..

There were converts of the music in J2S,
but now links are dead
1. Where I can get a converter for J2B?
2. If none, how can I otherwise convert it?

[EDIT] Wait, I'm already in Tech Stuff

No J2B to module converter in existance, afaik. But the originals should still be available at LoriCentral. If not, ask DrJones.

Haze is right

Yes, unfortunately, you cannot conver J2B to module. We should ask Orange for a reverse engineering program for when we start 1.25 ^.^

I happen to love the music from the Aztec levels made by Blade, but he put it in J2B...it is sort of like a copyright. Can't edit it, canya?

The AntiMcDonalds forums have turned into the JCF. Now includes the "spontaneous corrupt" feature.

More info...

I've been doing some HEXing and found some interesting info on the J2B format. Apparently it's using a hybrid song/compression standard (MUSE) developed by the former Dutch company Digital Dreams. Some guy named Marco coded the routines.
The songs ARE compressed and it's not a simple header-swap, as I suspected at first.
Anyone else got more info?

That's pretty interesting Haze.

What do you mean by "routines" though?
People have mentioned that the Galaxy sound engine (or whatever it is called) is very weak. But is there another one that we *could* use when we update Jazz?

As you may recall Epic actually did change music engines between v1.20 and (I think) v1.23 of JJ2. That's why all the utils and songs where patched. So it SHOULD be possible.
For "routines" I meant "methods" as used in engines. (forgive me for being Dutch )
As for recommended engine, I'd say something like the FMOD-engine should do.

So that's why a song file "7th heaven.j2b" (or what was it called again) only worked in 1.20!!! In 1.23 I didn't hear anything because the file wasn't patched!

FMOD, no. The FMOD engine has some strong trouble with various "Note Off" actions, causing some patterns of notes to be played "on top" of another. Sure, it claims to have the lowest CPU usage, but it just can't do some things correctly.

But does MODPlug support MP3?

MODPlug engine is only for modules, right? Isn't that why it is MOD(ule)Plug?

I vote for something with glorious MP3 support.
Not that I have any MP3s you understand...
