First, of all the reason for this topic is to announce that me and Psyclone have made our own chat room. Basically it happened after I got banned for stupid reasons. And he got banned, I don't know why, he said he forgot to read the reason why. Anyway, I have had problems in the past with #jj2, especially I was getting sick of their so called diety banning, kicking, and muting me.

Also other people in the past were annoying. And basically the ops abuse their power, anyway here's the deal. I haven't talked to him yet about this, but we need more people to op the server during the times of the day we aren't available. Basically people in the mountain and pacific timezone would be greatly helpful.

I had already told him we needed more people. So I and him are hiring new ops to help us with JJ2. Now we might or might not hire you, it's not guaranteed. Anyway if you want to become an op at our new channel which we don't want to reveal at the moment. Then either: post in this topic, pm me, email me, or contact me via AIM or MSN.

There is really no point in having two #jj2-type channels. It has been tried before, and with very little success. There is only really one other active JJ2 channel, #jcstalk, but that is about something unrelated to what #jj2 is about. The only things that connect #jj2 with the game itself are the name and some of the people in it. The channel would be loosely based on a channel loosely based on the game it is named after.

But, hey, folks, this is real imitation imitation real imitation we're talking about here!

It's a good idea in theory (more or less), but there are a few problems that spring to mind. First of all, most people come to #jj2 for entertainment. And any channel is mostly for entertainment. When people get op powers, it is rare that they exclusively use them well, because in a chatting channel, there is less time to think about consequences to actions. And there is always some degree of power abuse in every channel.

The main problem with such a concept is that #jj2 is already "the" established chat room for JJ2 players looking for a break from actual play. There will be no reason for players to depart to this other channel, as it offers little more than a different place for miscellaneous chat. When the topic is no topic, people go where the most people are. That is how it goes, and how it will always go.

You want to know the top-secret place where there are tons of on-topic discussions about the game? The game itself. Surprise.

I believe Internet Relay Chat was around long before the client mIRC.

Once I get trillian or mIRC I'll go to that JJ2 related IRC channel as well. But only if it's active enough, I wouldn't want to be the only one there. A fair and nice place to chat about JJ2 would be fantastic. Keep up the good work Tublear!

I don't think you'll cause any harm if you make a new channel. However, I don't know if many people would go to your channel.

These are sincere\honest questions:

1. Will CrazyDiscoJesus get banned from that channel?

2. Will copying and pasting stuff to deliberately annoy result in banning? i.e. if you do:

If answers are provided, I will look into the channel but #spiffyjuice and #jj2 will still be my main stay.

If you take stuff (as kick/bans) from #jj2 serious, then I see your problem. Overwise, if you don't want to be messed up into too much into jj2, just shut up there. Yelling up and playing smart in there makes you gain a kick.

Oh and about the power abuse. I do take kicks and mutes seriously. I find it annoying and dumb. And I will still continue on with this chat room. For there will no power abuse or dumb kick/ban/mutes.

I'd like to step in here and spread lies and filth to everyone reading this topic, since that is my profession. I'd also like to sincerely direct this post to everyone who is unsure of #jj2 and its 'power abuse', among other things. Being that I am a part of the people who "run" #jj2, it seems only mandatory to post a reply here.

First of all, it is fairly easy to understand how one might get upset by being kicked a number of times. I realize that it must be annoying. Although I haven't witnessed these events often, I would assume a major portion of the reasoning behind these kicks is because, on the kickee's part, there was simply a failure to comply to the rules after the first kick was placed. We do not ban people for absolutely no reason (except imaginary hostnames, but that's another story) and there will never be a time we will decide to. Like I said before, though, I have not witnessed whatever event this "new channel" business has spawned from (I'll get to the new channel part later), and unless there really was excessive abuse of power, the statements above still apply.

Admittedly, there is a relatively small amount of power abuse in #jj2. I've done some, myself. The reason behind this is because there are a small number of rules set up for #jj2; most irrelevant and meaningless. Therefore, there can only be a small amount of violations and an equally small amount of lenient kicks/bans. Abuse of power generally comes from a mixture of boredom and random spurs of events. Most abuse of power is usually done in good taste, and do not harm the channel generally. Relative to boredom and the random spurs of events, though, there is still reasoning behind multiple kicks of particular users. I, myself, don't really like to abuse power; but I do not speak for the entire channel here, and other people operating #jj2 simply abuse their power, as mentioned many times before.

Now, on the subject of this new channel, I'm not against it in anyway; just do not expect me to be visiting it. I'm not here to bash other channels and whatnot; I respect other channels and the purposes they have, regardless of whether I visit it or not. But still, and saying this out of sheer honesty; I don't really like the idea of a "#jj2 replacement".

Now, why is this? Simply because it will not work. #jj2 is the primary channel where JJ2 community members come to talk about whatever the bloody spoon they want. In this case, you are creating another channel with a similar name where you and some other people come only because you dislike #jj2. Okay.

Now what?

You see, people are currently dedicated to #jj2 and other spin-off channels suited for other purposes. #jj2 has its own, unique purpose. The new channel's purpose is very unclear and seems to be only created out of pure conflict and uselessness. I'm not saying your channel will fail; I'm merely stating that it doesn't seem to exactly be the best idea.

In any case, I wish you luck, regardless.

As for the question itself: Tublear said he wanted to keep the channel name secret until he had enough ops and until the channel got registered to prevent possible takeovers. I'll continue by throwing in a question myself: how long is this going to take?

Uh Until he gets a bot or register the channel but i dont think that JJT knows how to do that =(.

I would rather see the current channel improved. I don't want to have two JJ2 channels; that would hurt the original and would not do wonders for the new one. People would go to one or the other, and quickly both would become much less active. Besides, it is doubtful anyone will move, especially considering you do not have very much experience with owning a channel (no offense intended at all. It's just that owning a major channel requires quite a bit of mIRC experience.)

I agree with Piz here, hands down.

Tublear, it sounds to me like you are just making this channel for spite, but are masking it by saying it will just be a better environment. I admit #jj2 can sometimes be a difficult place to get used to, and you may feel shunned or feel like you are being discriminated against for no good reason save the fun of the operators. However most people do not have a problem with the channel, though sometimes I wouldn't be suprised if newer visitors to the channel felt sort of out of the loop or ignored simply because they aren't used to the channel.

People complain that discussions in #jj2 about Jazz2 are rare, however I'd like to say that #jj2 is not a channel directly dedicated to the actual game of Jazz2, but to the community that revolves around Jazz2. Look at the JCF - half of everything is in Misc. You can't just talk about Jazz2 constantly, there is going to be normal everyday discussion about whatever happens to come up. There ARE discussions about Jazz2, there are duels and games set up, you can see the current GIP, and you can talk to people in this community real time.

Of course there is power abuse, but it is all in fun. Admittedly, sometimes ops kick people just because they are generally annoying. Is that fair? No, but you should know when you first come in that there is a bias. So if you don't like it, creating a new channel for spite is pointless...if you can't adjust yourself to the mood and environment of #jj2, learn to. I think you will learn that most of the people there are very friendly, but when it comes to new visitors we like to have a little fun. We may kick for no reason sometimes, but kicking is really just a pointless poke in the side if you turn on Auto-Rejoin. And if we ban you for a while, it is for a good reason. No bans are permanent, either, unless you commit a serious offense.

Hmm, yes indeed the point of the new chat room has now changed no longer is it for revenge. But for another place the commnity can come and talk. Still there will be no bias, and you guys need to stop. It's dumb, immature, and rediculous. If you are really as Shadow said given the power to be an op, and were trained to. Then prove it. And use your power right.

At this rate, everyone who learned martial arts. Would use it for for real on people.
