Jazz Jackrabbit: Unofficial Soundtrack

I'm working on an unofficial soundtrack for Jazz 1 and 2, by optimizing the quality and converting them in foobar2000 using foo_dumb. (It can play PSMs properly =D) Only problem is, I'm not sure whether all JJ2 songs are available for ripping (I don't think foo_Dumb can play j2b) and I'm not sure whether I even have them all on my personal list...

So, you're asking for mod/s3m/whatever format versions of JJ1/2 songs?

Older versions of JJ2 will have the music as normal s3ms, which are on my website in a zip file.
Click the pic in my sig.

Edit: Whoops! It's a .RAR file, not .ZIP, my bad.

To get the original JJ1 songs, all you have to do is open the .p3m files in a mod editing program like ModPlug Tracker.

Edit: Err... nevermind.

LittleFreak: JJ2, yes. It being j2b, and all.

aokmaniac13: I'll give it a look.

I guess EvilMonkey's method also works for the JJ2 songs.

You could try Lori Central too, but I see it's unavailable at the moment.

I got the bunch of them when I remembered the URL to Monolith's server :P Still, your site had a few cool other songs, which gave me the idea to make this 'The Unofficial Epic Soundtrack'.

Unless, of course, that name is uber-sucky.

Here's the games I will include anyway:
Jazz Jackrabbit 1/2/3[B] [<-- possibly Advance, but that wasn't epic...]
Electro Man [yeah, it only had one song, so what? :P]
Epic Pinball
Silverball
Unreal Tournament

I know I've missed out a load of games, but I can't really remember any memorable tunes from them. Any suggestions are welcome.

I have Silverball on my PC currently, but I can't find Epic Pinball anywhere, so if anyone would pass me the PSMs...

Also, I was thinking of looping the songs twice, then fading, but appearantly, foobar doesn't convert the looping to OGG, so I'll have to find some other way of doing that.

EDIT: D'oh! How'd I forget Tyrian?! Anyway, there wouldn't be enough space on a 80min CD to fit Jazz 1 and 2 on, so I'm seeing if there are any other games that would fit after Jazz 1 so Jazz 2 could be on a second disc.

I can help you with the musics, I've collected the Jazz game music, plus Epic Pinball (the only thing missing is the original Enigma) and Silverball, in either .psm, .s3m or .it format. Mind you I have two sets of Jazz2 music: the beta music which was available on Lori Central, and the OEM music from Monolith's server, which has some minor differences with the retail versions. If you're interested I can zip all of them, and probably act as "Quality Control", specifically for Stonar and Sluggion, since some samples are either lost or unplayable.

Hey, being a packrat comes in handy

Here's the stuff I have:

- Jazz 1 S3Ms from Monolith (I can't find my CD so I can use the original PSMs :\)
- Jazz 2 LC version in case there's a 'lost song' I can add as a bonus
- Jazz 2 OEM version
- Jazz 3 MODs from Monolith.
- Tyrian MIDIs ripped straight from the game (Using HyperCanvas and converting... =D)
- Unreal Tournament original game files (I have the game, go figure)
- Silverball PSMs
- One Must Fall PSMs
- ElectroMan MP3

I need:
- Jazz 1 fixed songs if Monolith's aren't right
- Jazz 2 final songs (you said there were a few differences in the OEM one)
- Epic Pinball PSMs

I can think of a few more Epic games, but IMO, the music wasn't that good, so I'm leaving them out for now.

I have only the Epic Pinball songs from the demo, I can give you those if you need them.
Also, I can zip up the Jazz1 PSMs for you really quick, including the two 1995 holiday tracks.

Edit: What about Extreme pinball?

Give me the Jazz ones, I'll look for Epic Pinball myself as I need the full version :P

Disc 1 will consist of Jazz 1, One Must Fall 2097 and ElectroMan.

Disc 2 isn't certain yet, but will at least have Jazz 2 on it.

Calculated the Epic Pinball times. Disc 2 will contain Jazz 2 and Epic Pinball. I originally wanted both Pinball games on the same disc, but meh. Oh, and Extreme Pinball doesn't run in DOSbox, so if somebody can give me the music with the names and correct order...

EDIT: Downloaded the PSMs. I can't see any difference between the two Sluggion songs (except for the playback quality; go foo_dumb!) So if anyone can point out which sample doesn't work...

See edit to my above post...

EDIT: Actually, Modplug Tracker can only do that with the TSF files. It can NOT open .j2b files.

But j2b is the one used for most JJ2 music. Unless of course, you're using the OEM version, which has different music in some places.

EDIT: I keep forgetting to add stuff >_< I need some help on UT, because there's just too many music, I have no idea what to call them and what a correct order would be.

Wasn't j2b just a changed version of .s3m made especially for Jazz2?

Yeah, but it's more then just a changed extension. There's a tool to convert them, but appearantly it's illegal to distribute or something like that.

I once saw a thread on this forum where somebody found a program to play and convert .j2b with. But it sadly was Linux only.

MegaJazz, it was me who found that tool, and at all, I found another for Windows, but neither the Linux tool or the Windows one play the .j2b files from the game, I suppose .j2b is another music format too which isn't only the one from the game.

Well, Disc 3 seems to be slightly too long, but maybe I can fit it by slightly editing the songs so that silence at the start and endings is removed. Or maybe those few seconds don't really matter and it fits on anyway ;p

But the format .j2b looks Jazzy.. Can you also tell me more about the Jazz1 music file format .psm?

It's basically just a really, really old module format, which is similar to S3M, but not quite the same. There are two versions of PSM, the 'old' one and the 'new' one (according to Foo_Dumb)
Modplug can't play the old ones (Silverball uses them), and the new ones play, but some don't play right (in other words, use foobar)

I'm kinda late in saying this, but Tyrian isn't really an Epic game... Even though they spent a big part in helping it become as popular as it is now(or was). But, it's a World Tree Games... game....

I know Modplug can open the PSM files from Jazz1 though. But is the file format really unsupported now?

Sonyk: I s'pose, but still...

MegaJazz: According to people, some samples in Sluggion and Stonar are wrong in ModPlug, and the Epic Pinball menu song is just totally screwed up.

I don't even bother with PSMs. I use Chronos' module convertor to turn PSMs into S3Ms and it works perfectly.

Silverball is basically a commercially distributed version of Epic Pinball, with a slightly different engine and different levels.

Modplug only plays the new PSM format.

As for the Extreme Pinball songs, they are specially formatted to work with the game's dynamic music system, but I know how to piece together the parts to make it into an actual song.
