A Christmas level for Purplejazzs Contest
…
FawFuLs Notes:
Well Well, I do not have a clue where to begin. I Guess I was searching around some day on the JCF threads, and Pj’s contest really caught my eyes. I heard you can do a Collab. Which I found quite interesting. It Would be my first collab. But Perhaps, I couldn’t find anyone until Hitch showed up. I didn’t really know how Hitch was in Levelmaking, but the Situations wouldn’t let me have any other choice. After all, I am happy that I did a collab with Hitch. It was Very Fun. A real Experience in a Life time. We were good partners, good corrected (however sometimes we had different opinions about things).
He started the Level off with the upper left corner. I was so happy he made a start, I find that the most irritating part off making a level. But it seems Hitch did it Flawlessy. Because his part was really awesome. With that Inspiration, I builded a lot in the mid and also Made a nice Background. Then he made something in the left corner down. which was also great. But you can find this level information also in hitchs notes i guess.
i must say that the Good fact of making a collab is that you can correct each other, actually betatest. It was very fun after all.
Well, I think it needs no bother explaining. You should Download this level now!
Hitchs Notes:
This project was pretty fun actually, working with Faw. Two people work always better than one, but there where some disadvantages as well. Agreeing on a Tileset/Music/Level Name was quite difficut. But we managed to do it some how. When first starting this, I had no Idea what I wanted to create, so I just starting placing some tiles down. The next minute, I had 1/4 of the layout already finished, with a few cool ideas as well. Then I gave it to faw, who added some eyecandy, and contiuned part of the middle. I got it back this week, adding a few tiles here and there, experimenting with the house tilesets, and pretty much doing whatever the hell I wanted to. After that, I pretty much couldn’t do anything else because of exams and such, so I handed it off to Faw to finish it off.
Overall, the level was evenly made, and we had our own specific parts, but we made it happen. We actually did have a level name or any music picked out till yesterday (12-18-08) So we spent some time on that as well, trying out music here and there, finally going with the perfect match, which I think many of you will enjoy. There is also something that most of you might not know about the level or I guess tileset itself. Faw actually added 2/3 tiles for the house, making it so we could have wider door openings. You’ll see when you play the level yourself. It just give’s it a more comfortable feeling, and more open space, to shoot and what not.
All I have to say is I had a lot of fun doing this, and rushing wasn’t really a factor in this competition. I hope this level get’s a placing in PurpleJazz’s contest, and that it get’s played in the future. Enjoy!

We hope you enjoy it!
Pt.. i removed some seeks.. (note that there weren’t a lot off seeks and there isn’t a seek power up what also prevents seek spam)
also.. the tileset is not an fix.. but only som add-ons
there are now 3 spots off seekers.. most times 5 to 7 missiles on each spot.
(ignore the text saying it’s an fix.. i don’t know why i named it like that.. but i removed the maskings from the foreground things atleast.. you shouldn’t rate the tileset parts anyway.)
Well, very…. interesting level…
Not what I expected, Aurora Citadel is a Christmas level using the Holidaius ’98 fix tileset [which doesn’t really appear to BE fixed, but ow] and is very unusual. Why? no layer 8 bg. The level is devoted to seekers, having so many spots with them that I lost count. The amount of hidden shortcuts and side routes amazed me. The eyecandy was quite nice.
So to finish up, I will give a rating of 7.9, and a neutral dl rec, because the level was good but the high concentration of seekers unnerved even me.
I did really like the eyecandy in this level! The combination with the foreground & background layer + the 3 warp spots in this small level make it somewhat confusing to play & learn.
When I saw the fix thing in the tileset i thought OMFG why I didn’t see that? But it was almost nothing to worry about ;)
Thanks for the nice ideas, Good teamwork!
Just some tips: It is A CHRISTMAS, not AN CRISTMAS ^^. Also I is spelled in CAPITALS. ^^
Gameplay
The flow is good, I also recognise some of FF’s famous sucer tube-spring cominations. What bothers me most however, is that the middle platform in this level only contains 2 ways to go down, which are at it’s both ends, while there are more ways to go up. I would have like to seen a 3rd and maybe also a 4th way to get down from there.
Eyecandy
The eyecandy is pretty nice, especially for this tileset. There is plenty of back and foreground, while layer 4 also posseses great eyecandy.
Originality
There isn’t a lot of originality in this level, that is also what I miss the most.
Sorry for the not so long review, Im busy :p
Gameplay: 7
Eyecandy: 8
Originality: 6
Final Grade: 7
I recommend this download for playing public in the Holidays.
