A possible new Tournament

A while back I thought of starting my own tournament. I have some new ideas I have thought of that might make this actually work, unlike other tournaments like this one. Yes, yes, call me a fool, and I honestly do not expect this to work at least I am not 100% certain it will, but it certainly will not hurt to try. This tournament is designed sort like JDCE, JJ2L, or any other of thoose tournaments most of you guys are all familiar with. As you all know, they failed to work. In fact many of thoose tournaments only progressed to the semi-finals at most. For those who don't know about how theese type of tournaments work, allow me to demonstrate:

In JDCE, 32 players were required for five rounds:

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Round 1 -- Round 2 -- Quarter Finals -- Semi-finals -- Finals[/i]

(Players
who have
passed
qualification
end up in round
one. The start
of their journy
upwards to the
finals-if they
even make it
there)

Basicly, the people in the first round have had assigned opponents in which they must fight in order
to progress to the next round, and after that, the process repeats itself eliminating other players who have lost
until the last two strongest players who have survived the four previous rounds and are left to face each other
in the finals. Violet CLM made it to the finals of JDCE; unfortunately no one else met with him to finish the tournament.

JJ2L had a number of 20 people for its tournament, and consisted of four rounds:

------------------------------------------------------------
Round 1 -- Quarter Finals -- Semi-finals -- Finals

Group A

Group B

Group C

Group D

This tournament, however, worked somewhat differently than JDCE. In which the players in the first round were set into four
different groups as show above. Each of theese groups consisted of five players, a player would have to duel everyone else in his/her group to progress
Or at least duel most of them as I'm not sure wether you could get away with only doing three or four duels and still progress if you had enough points.
Points were gained by the stats of each duel you had played; Things like Roast/Count and win/loss determined your score of points. Round 2(Quarter Finals) was handled a bit differently than round 1, for example:

The player ranked highest in Group A would be matched with the second highest ranked player in Group D, and the highest ranked player from D would face the second highest ranked in A, as for groups B and C... You get the idea.
JJ2Ls' progress did not go much further beyond the point of the Quarter-Finals.

And now, finally, my tournament:

----------------------------------------------
Quarter Finals -- Semi-finals -- Finals

Yes, that's right, the tournament was built for a maximum of eight players! You see, not only is eight players easier to manage, but also because of this
smaller than usuall number of players, it won't take quite as long, as it seems the JJ2 community just isn't big enough for tournaments of the size I described above, they start to get lazy after the first round, and few of them even play to proceed after that.

The process of elimination is really nothing special, just the normal, classic 'players who are matched up in the first round fight each other and the winner progresses to the next round and so on...' However there's a twist. I can garuntee most players will greatly appriciate this:
If you're unfortunate and get an almost-unbeatable-rabbit-killing-machine in the first round and get knocked out; Get this... You have ONE EXTRA CHANCE!! (Redemption) not against the same player(although you can still have a rematch if the player agrees to do one), but you can challenge any of the other players in the Semi-finals or finals before their duel if the player agrees, if the one you hope to challenge has already lost his/her duel, forget it. If you win, you take his/her place. AWESOME. Semi-Final players who have not wasted their one chance to get to where they are can challenge either one of the players set in the finals.

Thoose who accept Redemption challenges and win get a special benefit in which they can swap semi-final opponents only once, if they want. No need for any of the other participants playing for the finals to agree!

As for player selection for the first round. It is NOT random. You will be able to choose your opponent, now don't get too excited, the process of doing so is not easy. Nor will I give away much info on how it will be done, however I will say when this will happen-read below for details. This feature works well against the time zone problem, try your best to get an opponent closest to your area.

Time restrictions do apply because each the players will have a set date in which they will duel, based upon info form the players.

Rules:

-Once in the finals, if you lose, you cannot use Redemption as it no longer applies. Its purpose is to take the place of other players. The winner will be the champion, simple

-You can only use Redemption once

-Duels have to be reported by me or a trusted moderater of my tournament. Meaning that I or a mod will have to host or watch the duel. If a duel has not been under the eyes of me or a mod, it will not count

-Duels done before the set date count

-You can only use Redemption if the one you challenged agrees

-If one of the players does not show up on the set date but the other does, the who didn't will be eliminated. If both players do not show up, the date will be extented (ugh)

-You can only swap opponents once. However if you're challenged for Redemption again and win, you get the benefit of swaping another time

-Everyone participating in this tournament must add me to MSN: akliensmith@msn.com or ICQ: 269484797, that way I can gather info for the duels. I may be on #jj2 sometimes if needed

-Have fun

Yes, I mislead you into believing that I'd tell when the matchups will be held, well, I'll just say soon. However keep in touch with this topic as I will ancounce when sometime in the near future.

Feel free to ask questions and if you by any chance see a flaw in the system, tell me. This tournament won't take place very soon until I feel everything works and once I'm done testing the concept. After all why am I posting this so early after I had just thought of this? ;P

Signups are allowed at this time, simply reply to this topic, or other means of contacting me. I will be participating in this tournament. Only seven slots are left so hurry!

Website will be up soon.

I will do my best to sign up. I'm pretty sure I can get my modem working again if I try hard enough. If not, someone else can take my place.

(P.S. I will lose.)

I'll sign up if the tournament starts after 23 June (won't have enough time otherwise because of the great evil called "finals"). If it starts before that date, feel free to give the slot to another player.

Well, add me if there are still slots left. But if this starts before 21th june, then just give my slot for another one, like Enigma does. I will be away from home the whole next week from this reply, so 14th-21th june. And how long will this take? I have to leave again from home for some longer time in the first days of july, not sure shall it be the first day but, hope that the thingy won't take for too long..

More than eight players are already signed up, bleh.

The Qualifications/matchups event will occur on Saturday June 19th at 12:30PM EST. Yes, I know the time sounds very familiar, don't ask. I won't tell which gametype we'll play because I know most of you would just train on it until then. But I will say that the winner of a 'match' will chose his opponent. there will be more than one of theese matches. And they're not exactly duels.

Since more than eight people joined, I'm sorry to say but all who replied to this topic and signed up; you're signups were pretty much useless since this event will only choose eight players (4 matches). So if you don't want to be left out, better win or hope that someone chooses you to be his opponent.

Rules:

-Once you choose or have been the one who was chosen you're only allowed to spectate the rest of the event

-Be very patient

There will be a pregame, I hope all of you will show up. Now why not just do all the duels in the same day after the matchups were chosen? well if you do, your duel simply won't count as I still need to set up the other part of the tournament.

June 19th? Drat. Ok, people are welcome to fight, mutilate and kill each other for my spot in the tournament, since I won't be able to participate.

JDC starts on June 19th? Oh boy, if neither Unfish nor I can host some euro events for the first few days, and if Cell doesn't reappear before then, some event-happy euro foos will probably start riots. Fun.
